This true crime tale from director Jonathan Hensleigh charts the bloody rise and fall of Irish mobster Danny Greene (Ray Stevenson), who faced down the Mafia to claim control of organized crime in Cleveland, Ohio, in the 1970s. Based on Rick Porrello's book, Hensleigh's hard-hitting film also features Christopher Walken as well-connected nightclub owner Shondor Birns and Val Kilmer as the cop who befriends Greene against his better judgement.

It's a gritty, violent, working-class 1970s mob drama. Those are some pretty big shoes to fill. And you soon remember why the most familiar titles on the writer/director's CV are Die Hard With A Vengeance and Armageddon; the story is flat, swallowing the myth of the Robin Hood gangster wholesale and depending far too much on the viewer filling in the blanks based on what they've seen in Goodfellas. Also, if you're going to have a film about cars blowing up, you might want to get better CGI.

Wow, what a pleasant surprise. Haven't enjoyed a movie like this in a long time. This is a fun watch from beginning till the end, it's smacked packed with some (type casted) maffia actors, but they all fit their roles perfectly. The only one a bit off is val Kilmer, but who cares. An expertly done film, with some nice work of the integration of real TV footage of that time. If you like mob-flicks be sure not to miss this one.

Ray Stevenson gives a good lead performance in this film. This movie also has a good supporting cast. The script has several good moments although it doesn't add a lot of new elements to the genre of gangster films. Overall I would recommend this film.

This is a case study in how not to direct. Although several of the performances were great. Very disappointing.

This game has some poor acting and specials effects, and it's pretty cliche, but I gave it a bunch of extra points because I never heard of the interesting true story it's based on.

Very lamely build story and pretty anemic acting. The lead was a poor choice and even Walken did not shine out.

Should have gotten an oscar! What a brilliant performance from Ray Stevenson (who stars in one of my favourite series: ROME). But let's not forget Val Kilmer with one of his best performances ever! I really really enjoyed this movie eventhough it made me a little sad + I really love the irish music.

Done before but still worth a look. I had no idea there was that much violence in Cleveland.

A fine cast in a true-based story that may be worth telling, but this effort isn't very captivating or convincing. *Preview*: #14#, story, ratings, cast.

"A mind-numbingly familiar saga of thuggish tough guys, dapper mafioso, and urban warfare that, despite a based-on-real-life pedigree, proves indistinguishable from its imitative brethren." - Nick Schager

This was an alright gangster movie hampered by the fact that they tried to paint Danny Greene in a slightly better light then the other gangsters. He was a thug and a murder and not a good guy at all.

A mildly entertaining mafia tale that can't decide whether it wants to be a serious portrayal of events or adopt a more dark comedy take. Instead it alternates tones at times making the whole film appear a bit schizophrenic. This has an ensemble cast of mafia character actors like Sorvino and Schirripo. Which gives the whole film the look of every mafia film we've seen before. The scenes are too cliche and madcap making things appear less serious than they really were in those times.

Couldn't get past the first 30 minutes. Bad acting, directing, and writing. And the only decent part they stole from Goodfellas. Maybe the last hour is better, but I wouldn't recommend finding out.

Apart from some obvious CGI explosions, the film is pretty enjoyable. A poor man's Goodfellas.
