a shining example of romantic comedy at it's finest, it does acting right along with plot and ties it into an interesting era while keeping the movie true to it's genre's roots. frances mcdormand is truly top notch in this movie.

I enjoyed the movie from the start, even if it took me a little while to figure out where the movie was going. But the story is actually very sweet and it's well acted on most accounts (I can't really think of anyone who wasn't good at least). It's a different type of movie, which was somewhat refreshing. I already love that era, so the clothes and all were already a plus for me. I also thought the filming was interesting-it could have been annoying if it had gone overboard, but didn't.:)

Delightful, Charming, Sweet, Girly, Fun, Flirty, Frothy, Kinda-mindless, On the Toes, Eminently watchable multiple times. One of the few period movies that have managed to capture my attention from beginning to end and not put me to sleep. Rooting for Frances McDormand throughout, everybody else just supports her.

What a delight! All of you that like the "old-fashioned" movies with charm, and wit, and vibrant and distinct characters will LOVE this one! Amy Adams and Frances McDormand are impeccable in their respective roles. and the supporting cast is spot on, too! Good direction, along with no sparing of expense on production values, makes the final product absolutely winning. Go have fun!

Try as they might to make the story interesting, the actors do not save the film from mediocrity.

I love this movie! I almost didn't watch it because the title sounds a little boring but I am so glad that I did watch this. Amy Adams is literally one of the cutest girls ever (my wife being the cutest). She plays the role of the confused girl so well, juggling her three boyfriends and trying to decide who to finally end up with. McDormand is the strong glue that holds this comedy together and her character was so strong all throughout the film. I laughed and cried. I loved it. Bravo!

McDormand is good and Hinds is fine in his small role, but Amy Adams is miscast and the story itself is just not that interesting.

Just got home from Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. It is a very cute movie with performances that rise above the demands of the script by Amy Anderson and Frances McDormand. Even has a role for the actress (Shirley Henderson) who plays our favorite despondent ghost (Moaning Myrtle). While I can find no fault in this movie, it called to mind a much better movie: Mrs Henderson Presents. A pretty unequal and probably unfair comparison. By all means go see Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and enjoy it

This is a pretty little movie. While Amy Adams certainly does a great job, Frances McDormand is extremely charismatic and definitely holds her own. Also, I've just got one word to say about Lee Pace's role in this. YUM.

It's a great movie if you want to waste a few hours. Acting is top notch, the script is forgettable, but not stupid, and the whole vibe of the movie is just right. Frances McDormand shines as always and it just reinforces Amy Adams status as one of the rare young talented actors. The only problem I had with the movie is the obvious Marry Poppins homage, or better yet re imaging of the classic story. Great time waster.

A fun and fluffy period romantic farce. Entertaining for 90 minutes but nothing more. McDormand is fine in the lead role, but the real credit lies with Amy Adams. Taking what's a rather superficial one-dimensional character, she brings it to screen with flair, heart and superb comic timing. Throw in some great production values and a swinging soundtrack and there are worse ways to spend an evening.

Though set in the same era and similar in tone and style of "Mrs. Henderson Presents", Miss Pettigrew is far better than the aforementioned film. McDormand performs flawlessly as the title character, and I wouldn't be surprised to see her being nominated for Best Actress of the Year, though I doubt she will win. After all, it has a very limited target audience--mostly women who enjoy period pieces. Men who enjoy action movies will probably want to stay away from this one.

Surprisingly fabulous movie. Actors and actresses were perfect as nails. Costuming, setting wonderful. Lots of fun. I am not into the girlie movies at all. But this one is worth a watch.

"Brisk, peppy, light on its feet, and trying awfully hard to be reminiscent of a fast-talking Depression-era rags-to-riches comedy, the film can be best described as inoffensive." - Jeremiah Kipp

A desperate governess pretends to be a social secretary and injects herself into the fast paced life of a beautiful young actresses. She is in the right place at the right time to meet several high powered people. The story is a bit of a whirlwind and often chaotic. Amy Adams is a hot mess in this. Good acting all around makes it a fun watch. The ending was a bit too convenient. Nice tones and beautifully shot.

A trifle of a movie; kinda silly, but sweet. The main attraction is the cast. And the dresses and all the set designs.

Talk about generic. Frances McDormand was wonderful as Miss Pettigrew. That's about all the positives I can say about this film..

Especially enjoyed any scene with Ciaran Hinds or Shirley Henderson. They both brought unique characters that seemed to reveal an underlying depth. McDormand was solid as well. The film is difficult for a time because the main character at the opening (played by Adams) is so amazingly unlikable.

Whilst undeniably falling into the standard rom-com cliches, its hard to deny how much fun of a ride this movie can be.

Amy Adams absolutely glows in this charming period piece. Call me a softy for anything she does, but this one really won me over in a hurry.
