Impeccably made, and the two leads are stellar in their roles, but the writing, while often clever and engaging, gets rather pretentious and preachy, especially in season 3. Still, it's a better-than-average procedural that's very much worth a watch.

The first season was some super great television, honestly. Character motivations were well-developed, there was an unimpeachable feeling of dread and mourning that permeated the whole show, and the performances from our two leads were stunning. Not only that, but the mystery was pretty compelling, and the creators did a solid job of balancing this show with its dual-genre of crime and drama. I haven't seen the second season, but I don't see how it could beat the first.

I mean it's fine but the commentary about how this reshaped the crime drama is ridiculous. Oh you're telling me there's a murder in an idyllic small town and the whole community is suspect in some way? AND the pair of detectives comprise of an aloof workaholic and a more grounded wisecracking wit??

The first season was painting the mystery well till the shocking ending. The second one was more traditionally build with cliffhangers and all. Stunning work with Olivia Colman.

The first season was good entertainment, quirky and sad and interesting. I have mixed feelings on the second season.

Amazing show with intriguing plot and fantastic actors. Both the plot and characters develop in a very interesting, real way. I watched all three seasons in the span of 10 days, couldn't get enough!

Season 1 is an excellently-made small town murder mystery, and Season 3 is pretty decent, but Season 2 is a painfully melodramatic courtroom drama with ridiculous and hard-to-believe plot twists and it almost ruins the series. The two leads are great throughout, especially Olivia Colman, who is breathtakingly phenomenal at times. I'd put good money her to be a Oscar contender within the next 5 years, she's that good. Score is an average of all 3 seasons.

My ranking would be considerably higher, had there not been the second season. Seriously, season 1 is one of the best crime/drama/detective serials I saw and seeing the first few episodes of season 2 was a huge disappointment after that. It felt a bit like they forced the whole plot of S2

Enjoyed the first season which ended very strongly. The 2nd and 3rd seasons just didn't grab me.

Pretty solid, Olivia is always great. First season easily the best one, second pretty good. The script of the third one was somewhat lacking but still worth watching.

As a big fan of David Tennant, I had to watch this show, and it didn't disappoint. At least, with the first season anyway. The second and third seasons never quite recreated the excitement of the first, but the acting and directing was still top quality stuff.

The first episode left me in tears. The rest of the show left me astounded by the acting from Tennant and Colman, the character portrayals and plot.

I would give it a higher rating if not for the WEIRD politics involving an old teacher impregnating and marrying his 15 year old student

Based on season 1 alone I would have given this an above 90 rating. Wonderful and twisted! Second season is weak and third season is just ok. Overall I recommend this to friends, especially season 1.

The first season was really great. Pulpy in just the right dose, the chemistry between the dynamic duo is good, and Tennant does a good job tamping down his usual ebullience for the role. I feel like the show starts stunting with his performative insensitivity by the second season, and I stopped watching.
