Prison Break, or: How Showrunners Managed to Kill Momentum Each Time They Started a New Season. I watched this show during its original run, and it was a well-paced mystery-drama that played its conspiracy subplots well (at least in its 1st (and perhaps 2nd) season). The show then went of the rails, repeating its premise and stretching the conspiracy to somewhere between laughable and nonsensical. The acting is good, even if the characters are despicable. A shame it kept going downhill.

The lead actor's wooden, the characterisation's amateurish and the plot twists are just ridiculous. To think they managed to drag this out for four seasons is almost laughable. However, it's also infuriating when you consider how popular it was.

The first season is easily one of the best seasons of TV in the history of TV. The second season, while not as good as the first, is still incredibly solid. Unfortunately, they should have ended it at season 2, because the show got pretty disappointing in season 3, and only partially got better in season 4. The later 5th season did an okay job trying to bring back some of the better qualities of the show and wrap things up, but wasn't totally necessary.

Prison Break is a high concept long term payoff kind of series. The concept is so out of the ordinary that over the course of the run they are able to succeed in replicating a break out story three seperate times and it still works. Perhaps a tad bit over reaching near the end it still works thanks in large part to Wentworth Miller and his ability to keep you engaged with the Scofield character and the drama that surrounds him. A great show from beginning to end. Not much to complain about.

Biggest quality drop off after S1 for any TV show I have seen. By season 4 (good god, have they really done MORE - a 5th ?!?!) it has become totally ridiculous. || I am NOT wasting time to re-watch but feel confident in saying, from memory, that the 1st season is very good & the 4th season plot is so piss-poor ridiculous as to damage what went before!

There doesn't exist any piece of film that can surpass the brilliance of Prison Break. Most notably, the writing of character development across the seasons. You can love the bad guy after hating him for 40 episodes. The complexity of the storylines behind every character is what submerges you into the show. I've seen the show 8 times, it' perfect.

I remember that when I watched this 20 years ago I thought it's so well done and smart (1st season only of course). I started to rewatch it now and this didn't age well. I think I got spoiled. Acting is off, plot is being dragged and actual clever things for which I remember this show are diluted in fluff.

TV: Rated for the great first season! A breakout hit amidst a fraught TV schedule and along with LOST and Heroes came to define the compulsive formula TV programming of that era. Killer concept and ensemble cast, unmissable TV week-in-week-out, fun character development and plotting, tension ramping right to the conclusion. Always a fun rewatch. Season two was very silly, but worth sticking it out for the madcap third year. Subsequent seasons are very much 'for fans only'. |S1:88 S2:60 S3:70

This could have made a really solid 1 season show, with a 1 episode 'Where Are They Now?' after the break. The pacing is way off. Every single scene is a bare-bones plot driver. The characters are flat. SPOILER. I almost stopped watching after the first break fails, then again after they succeed, then I was too deep in to walk away during all of season 2's grab-assing.

[1st season] Watched just the 1st (would be 70/100) and some 2nd season episodes, when it absolutely loses everything I loved in 1st season and I decided to stop. I think that saves the average score for me from being lower than 60... I really didn't have any expectation of it going better.
