Sherlock: ... and because, dear Watson, they used to be black slaves, it's totally okay for women to kill men. / Watson: Whoa there, Sherlock! That's some feminist bullshit! / Sherlock: Quite! I don't know what came over me! Am I written by a sad white boy raised by women, or a soulless marketeer pampering to the Cumberbitches? / Watson: Dunno mate, but these women happen to be white. I wish this was 'The Wire' instead of another glorified gif-library aimed at Tumblr. / Sherlock: WHAT AM I?!

a lot to like here, but I would have liked it a lot better without a connection to present day ... now it's just a mess, a funny, weird and entertaining one, but still ... a mess.

This episode carries a very special, yet beautiful mood, set in the Victorian era. Apart from that, it feels like every other Sherlock episode with all the wit and mystery you love. A must see for fans.

All over the shop but it's Sherlock so it was still entertaining. I would imagine a non-regular viewer would be completely lost though.

Glorious. Gothic horror, melodrama and sass. Oh, so much sass!

Would have been nice to see them just set a story in the past, but after 15 minutes it becomes clear that this is really just another episode about Moriarity. It ends up descending into nonsense (the graveyard and falls scenes are awful) and even at it's heart, it's about Sherlock deducing that the idea of Moriarity could live on even while the man is physically dead - far too simple for what he goes through. The actual case of the bride is at least interesting, though.

Aside the fact that it's so great to see Sherlock on the big screen, this is a must watch for the fans of the series. Without giving too much away, even set in the Victorian era, it still feels like your regular Sherlock episode and has many tie-ins to the series. It certainly doesn't feel like they made this for the sake of making it...

Sherlock becomes a feminist icon in this one; John is a raging misogynoir.

The latter seasons of Sherlock just weren't that great. I love the chemistry between Cumberbatch and Freeman, though, so I still think it's worth watching. Lots of eye-rolling for me, to be honest.

I was really into it for the first 30 minutes or so but gradually I began to lose interest, by the time the first big twist happened I was just waiting for it to end.

The Abominable Bride is a resounding step down for Sherlock. In that the episode does not appear as a one off, but rather a way to undo the amazing ending of the previous episode. That being said the performers are still great and the costume designs are on point.

I love the idea of them going back to the canonical setting of Victorian London. I really like the mystery as well.

A fun little departure for the show with a fun mystery but one that gets a bit indulgent towards the end as it tries to get meta and tie back into the rest of the episodes.

Entertaining but I think if I was a regular viewer I would have found it more so.

I love even the weaker episodes. This has lots of great ideas, but the execution is kind of messy.

Only seen the 2010 eps and this didn't work at all as a stand-alone episode. An unsatisfying resolution [jurer pnegbba-vfu fhssentrggrf qbar vg], all seemingly an excuse for Gatiss to indulge his gothic enthusiasms with lots of nods to past (unseen by me) and hints at future episodes. Some fun banter but one for keener fans than I.
