The main character travels to his hometown for his high school reunion. During the trip, he recalls the memories of the days in high school. Friendship, subtle love, a trip to Tokyo and so on all came back to him as the film evolves. (imdb)

Low-key slice-of-teenage-life tells an admittedly uneventful story, while tapping into universal emotions and scenarios from adolescence - the style here well and truly transcends the slight substance; typically gorgeous and detailed animation (note especially attention paid to background characters and their interactions) married to a sublime musical score (though apparently controversial for some!) makes this a bracing and very pleasing experience.

This little talked about film has always been one of my favorite Studio Ghibli films. The characters are very realistic and the story was steeped in nostalgia. It's not for everyone but people like me that love Slice-Of-Life stories will appreciate this simple, elegant story.

I didn't really enjoy this. The music was gutwrenching (you'll now what I mean when you'll hear it), the story was weak. I didn't really care about the characters at all and the animation wasn't that fantastic. I've seen much better Anime.

A pleasant but forgettable made-for-TV offering by Studio Ghibli. The Japanese really do excel in teenage stories, presenting characters who go far beyond the usual stereotypes and are interested in more than losing their virginity. This one is no different, and I enjoyed its sincerity, it just lacks that extra something to make it memorable. Nice artwork and animation, but again it's nothing special.

All points for good quality animation. The story was not much my taste.

My recollection of this is just that it was dull and blah, didn't get into it the way I did with a lot of other Ghibli fare.

A stranger comes to town and captures the attention of her new classmates. The animation has a realist sensibility which matches the understated plot. The characterization of the protagonist is a bit uneven.

Not only is there nothing memorable about this (compared to say Whisper of the Heart), but the love interest is kind of irredeemable?

As intended, this is a boring and baffling film: the romance is questionable at best and nonsensical or simply absent at worst. However, the relationship between Morisaki and Matsuno, along with the emotive synth soundtrack and unambitious slice-of-life visuals, develops in slow and subtle strokes that honestly do engage despite being accidental. A curious picture. (Watch eliquorice's video essay "Ocean Waves - Studio Ghibli's (Accidental) Queer Film" for a great look at this film)

It's not offensively terrible, but it is a frustrating melodrama populated by stubborn and bratty characters. Sure, they're high school kids, but I don't think that's the point.

This film really captures the awkwardness and heartache of high school crushes and tells a nice slice of life story. The animation is good, and even if it does not particularly add anything to the story, sometimes the right mood and a nice story is all you need.

One of my favourites of the films where people fight or act rudely to each other. (Usually that's not a theme I'd enjoy.)

A solid but imperfect offering from Studio Ghibli.

Turns out that a dull high school soap opera, animated and set in Japan, is still just a dull high school soap opera. If this isn't the low point of my Studio Ghibli marathon I'll eat my own shoe ala Werner Herzog.

Sweet and mature, but it never really came together for me and the music drove me at least a bit mad. I wouldn't mind giving it another chance sometime though.

Although it built a strong sense of the importance of little moments in our life (with a pacing style that influenced 'The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) and some genuine sympathy and pathos, I couldn't help but feel as though Mochizuki gave his characters far too much maturity beyond their adolescent years. It flattened out what should have otherwise been erratic and hormonal, ultimately making it a tamer tale.

It's not a bad movie, but it's not of my favourites of Ghibli.

Talvez incompreensível pra quem está na faixa dos 14-17, mas é inegável o alto nível de profundidade nos personagens.
