Good story, not a very good story telling. I found it hard to engage with, despite knowing it's based on true events. The problem is it's constant lecturing style. There is almost no subtlety with all the social messages the series tries to deliver. Nothing is left for the audience to figure out. I can't help but wonder how this would've turned out in HBO's hands. Nevertheless, it was entertaining to watch, but not something particularly memorable for me.

Nauseatingly netflixy from the get-go, or worse; almost felt like watching a tik-tok video. Sort of like the creator and hero with his stalker, I started out with the sense that I owe this series something. I was punished with a plasticky, self-indulgent spoken-word monologue with woke dog whistles.

As someone with rather more than his share of boundaries, I find it utterly inexplicable that this guy can't manage to set one or two basic ones. By the time he finishes narrating one ill-advised decision after another, letting himself off the hook at every turn, I pretty much hated him. And his "comedy act" is just embarrassing. Yet, despite it all, it's curiously watchable, perhaps due to Jessica Gunning, who flings herself into her character, giving a high-energy, no-holds-barred performance.

Deeply unsettling, but on the whole painfully honest and open treatment of abuse and mental health issues and the agonising pain they cause as they rebound between people.

A "comedy" show that's extremely forthright and upfront with its emotional intensity, with a handful of big crying scenes, which appears to have appealed to the usual Netflix crowd. But the better moments are showing how this situation began and the intriguing direction the victim ends up taking it in.

Unlike anything I had seen before - funny, strange, depressing - and truly well made. But it also may be a little too weird for me to love: the main character makes truly awful decisions that don't seem relatable - or logical - at all. I know that's the point and that his character is ultimately flawed but it does keep me at arm's length from truly embracing this show. The fact that my mother-in-law recommended it may have also poisoned the well.

It falls flat in places, but I enjoyed it overall as being a good confrontational show, oddly relatable at some points.

absolutely great story, could have been so much better without all that woke messaging. when will people realise that people dont go to watch movies to see woke agendas. the rest of the series was amazing, it was stressful, funny and cringey and it was all true. what a series. honestly amazing

A very authentic, raw and often heartbreaking story that is clearly very personal for all involved, especially Richard Gadd, who created the series based on his own personal experiences. What starts out as maybe a creepy thriller about an unhinged stalker becomes one of the most intimate and crushing portrayals of coping with abuse and trauma that I've ever seen. I don't understand the other reviews here who call this lecture-y, I found it absolutely the opposite - real people struggling.

A personal and dramatic true story about a man being stalked by a woman, though it's not filmed in a documentary style as much but more as an immersive miniseries. The story and events are interesting and shocking, and the main guy is more interesting than the stalker herself, even though she's also an interesting and strange character like him. Themes are explored like a guy being stalked by a woman and what that entails. Another interesting thing is who these characters are in real life.

An amazing, painful, important story that is way to rarely told. This is a profoundly uncomfortable show about abuse, the festering of shame and torturous dynamics between wounded people. I had a hard time watching, but it was very worth it.

Gadd's acting and voice-over narration are arresting but I found the stalker angle pretty grating. While talking about the formative experience in the main character's past that is revealed in the very strong fourth episode won't do here, suffice to say that I welcomed the change of focus.

There are laughs and there are groans. It goes to some uncomfortable places, and is very successful in doing so. There is something so compelling watching a damaged person get stalked by an even more damaged person.

The performances!!! What an unsetteling show. It is no an easy to watch show but it tells its story really well and makes you feel. Every bit where you say ‘why would you do that?’ gets explained and did I mention the amazing performances?

I find it interesting that the actor is the same one who lived it, and although I try to be objective because he only tells us his side, the girl has already come out to deny it, I think a documentary would be good where they show both sides. What is true is that it teaches us how far two hurt people in toxic relationships can go.

“This is a true story” leaves me feeling cheated. “Based on a true story” feels more appropriate when its writer and lead has admitted to artistic tweaks. Otherwise, very entertaining and gripping.

Although it's enjoyable to have a proper portrayal of the cycle of abuse and traumatic harrassment on a tv screen, and the dark comedic tone fits, I simply don't like the main guy. I get that it's a show about hating yourself, and it worked, I ended up hating the main character.

The subject matter is at times very uncomfortable and hard to take in but this is the type of story that demands to be scene. It is creepy, darkly comedic and very emotional at various points through out the 7 episode run. What makes it even more shocking is this was based on a true story. Richard Gadd is the man that this happened to and he also wrote and created the series as well as played the lead role. There is so much to unpack here but this one of the best shows in a long while.
