"Have you read the big beat manifesto lately?" "Did we write it down?" "Big beat manifesto goes: Big beats are the best. Get high all the time." "Right...at the time it felt like a much more all encompassing philosophy."

well, you were at least a better fuck than jeremy. he's like a red setter pouncing after a tennis ball, you're more like a captain solemnly going down with his ship.

When it comes to cynicism, pessimism, and self-deprecation, I don't think I can think of a better show. There's a plethora of terrific lines in this mostly dialogue-based comedy, most of them sum up my (and plenty others') state of living. The two main characters work so well off each other, due to their external differences and internal similarities, and the unique POV shooting style adds a voyeuristic personal flavour. Point off for last two seasons, should've stuck with original opening tune

Hey wow, I'm actually good at this. I'm a natural. Maybe I'm a jogger, yeah of course there had to be a sport for me, I just never realized I'm a natural jogger. Feel the legs like two steam locomotives pumping away! I'm Crown! I'm a vet! i'm unstoppable! I'm- Jesus, is that a stitch? F*ck I think I'm gonna be sick... I'm literally gonna die, what an idiotic boob I was back 10 or 11 seconds ago

The 2nd funniest show ever (behind It's Always Sunny). However, it has the distinct advantage of striking deep chords of anxiety within me. I have many of the worst characteristics of Mark and Jez (Mark's antisocial neuroticism and Jez' undisciplined hedonism). Thankfully I strongly disagree with almost every decision both characters make, which brings me to my biggest complaint - they're often assholes just to drive the plot. Jez pimps out his beautiful gf for a 1000$?? C'mon

More proof that American television can never be as good as British television...not even close. So very many cringe-worthy moments. beautifully set up, and I laughed in spite of myself every single time.

Moments of absolute brilliance & nonstop laughs, but by episode 3, the protagonists are irredeemably unlikeable, in a very Seinfeldian / Always Sunnyean / Extras-esque / CYEish manner. The cringe turned a little sadistic & started to have collateral damage outside of the main pair’s own pride & dignity.

I must've watched this in it's entirety at least 3 times and I still get a kick out of it. Mitchell and Webb are fantastic at what they do and Matt King portrays one of my favourite comedy characters ever. Super Hans has so many great quotes that I can remember and thouroughly had me laughing countless times. One I'll be revisiting for a long time I imagine. Fuck you Bush.

Season 2 is great. I felt it decreased in quality going forward, but it is still David Mitchell.

some very funny jokes and i suppose pretty accurate in some ways, but there's only so much male sexual inadequacy i can take these days, so i capped it off at one season. mark as the guy who's just a bit too enthusiastic about "german history" was good (the swastika-in-a-heart was on-point); mark as the guy worrying his testicles looked like oversized kumquats, less so.

It was funny for a while, until I realised it was turning into a soap opera with none of the characters really going anywhere.

PS peaks for me in season 4, namely the wedding episode. It isn't a catalyst for any drop in quality however, it was just a high water mark the previous 3 seasons led into. I watched the finale recently, a finale that qualifies as almost just another episode, which I thought it was (damn English and their 6 episode seasons) until I saw some press about the end of the Jez & Mark era. Technically, it was an achievement in how it utilised POV camerawork, like nothing else outside of Enter the Void.
