Alright, I love explosions and gunfights as much as the next man but this is good. Not just "not terrible so you'll watch it with the girlfriend good" but actually really good. I enjoyed the novel (sue me) and this is a really faithful adaption that captures the tone of the book perfectly. Plus Colin Firth is fantastic as Mr. Bennett. Highly enjoyable if you aren't terrified of watching a "chick flick" (or "chick mini-series", though that doesn't have the same ring).

It's amazing how the serie is faithful to the book! The acting is also fantastic, and the scenarios are incredible. One of the best BBC series.

Delightful, charming, a favorite and a wonderful adaptation with brilliant acting and beautiful cinematography! Even if you've never read the book, this movie has enough substance that you can easily follow along. It also includes most (if not all) major plot points from the book (a great feat!) and flows smoothly end effortlessly. A must see!

Faithful and filled with brilliant performances it's enjoyable, but the direction is far too stagey and dry to really hold the viewer's attention for as long as it usually needs to.

Religiously faithful to Austen's classic novel - but never to a fault. I did miss the scene where Elizabeth and Darcy stand side by side for several minutes without daring to communicate their affections, though. Production values are high, and the casting is generally great. Firth and Whitrow are terrific, but Steadman is perhaps a bit too effectively grating. And how anybody could consider this incarnation of Jane a beauty is a bona fide mystery. But these are nitpicks at a great adaptation.

A 6 hour chick flick but worth while to watch. As much as I like gun fights, action and violence. I can still appreciate all interesting stories. By far this was the best Jane Austen movie production so far.

A true-to-the book adaptation of Jane Austen's classic, with superb acting and directing and most importantly the TIME necessary to bring Austen's characters to life. 6 hours long, but worth every minute and especially enjoyable by fans of the novel. The story is as compelling and the characters are as deep and dynamic as written by Austen, and portrayed by the perfect cast. A timeless classic.

Though the over-arching story is strong the dialog is so weak it reminds me of the perfectly ditzy and mindless ramblings of the dialog from a porno. It maybe an accurate portrayal of the repressed feminine emotions boiling out in dismal unashamed ditziness. But it does make you want to put a drill bit in your brain just to stop the movie!

it's very funny to me the way people sometimes react to Austen and P&P, disclaiming how much they ordinarily don't like frivolous and girly things that deal with social manners, but how this one thing they like despite it all. really puts me in mind of something familiar.... I can't think of what

An evenly paced, faithfully adapted programme. Jennifer Ehle's lively eyes capture precisely the quality Darcy falls for, but otherwise casting falls short in many respects, particularly with her bevy of 25-40 year old teenage sisters. Additionally, while the gorgeous English locales cannot fail to produce some effect on screen, the cinematography is by-and-large characterless and serviceable, in many respects a product of its time and platform.

People may act as though the novels Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights are great literary works, but in reality Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters are merely the Stephanie Meyer of the 19th century.

This was a true adaptation, and I liked it with a few exceptions. First, while Ehle is likely a fine actress, her Elizabeth didn't jive with the Elizabeth portrayed by Austen, for me. Also, the mum was just too over the top. But I loved the father, he was wonderful, maybe my favorite character. For those who think Austen was too consumed with marriageability, consider the time and place! Not many options for young women aside from finding that man, which is why Elizabeth is admirable.

"Miss Elizabeth. I have struggled in vain and I can bear it no longer. These past months have been a torment. I came to Rosings with the single object of seeing you... I had to see you. I have fought against my better judgment, my family's expectations, the inferiority of your birth by rank and circumstance. All these things I am willing to put aside and ask you to end my agony."

One of the great adaptations of any novel, this mini-series combines strong acting, sharp writing, and capable directing to present a heartfelt, funny, and lively version of this story. Essentially a romance with a dash of social commentary, the actors wisely underplay their scenes, allowing the pivotal moments to have their maximum effect. Ehle, playing Austen's most striking creation, embodies the character fully, as does the oft-praised Firth in his role as Darcy.

Easily the best Austen adaptation, hands down. The casting is pitch perfect, there's great chemistry all around, and the humor is translated very well from the book. Well worth watching, even if the prospect of sopping wet Colin Firths isn't enough to sell you on it by itself

If Jane Austin's novel is as good as this miniseries it well deserves to be read and liked two centuries after it was first published. Both, characters and actors portraying them are alive, interesting and distinguishable. Some elements of the story are dated, but that does not prevent from immensely enjoying it. Feelings are timeless, after all. The language is rich and the dialogs are very witty, that is something I love in literature and movies. Best of its kind.

Best adaptation based on J.Austen novel that I had chance to see it(haven't read any books for my health's sake). Also far better than movie starring K.Knightley. C.Firth really made great performance. Just don't make same mistake as I did, watching it alone. Get a girlfriend(and a life) first and then watch it together and I'm sure it'll will be much more bearable to watch.

My mother-in-law, a woman in her late eighties, finds watching movies adapted from Jane Austen novels boring. Her attitude mirrors, somewhat, the reaction of novelist Henry James who saw the characters in Austens novels as having small and second-rate minds, Philistines one and all. Emerson found Austen to be imprisoned in a wretched and smothering conventionality with an excessive concern for marriageableness. Such is life--there are many views of Jane Austen.-Ron Price.
