The Knick is an unforgettable show with amazing style and acting and one of the best functional soundtracks of the era. Sadly in S2 there are some soapy elements due to sub-par writing that, on rewatch, make me adjust my score from 95 to 90. This is not on Soderbergh though, his directing is mouthwatering from beginning to end. I love how he does dialog countershots above the head. The final is absolutely legendary, "this is it, this is all we are", it's the premium stuff of feelings, it's art

A real directorial vision from Soderbergh is felt across every episode which is a rarity in TV. Interesting soundtrack choices that work to great effect and I've learned over the years that I love hand-held camera work in period pieces. (Season 1)

Thematising, among other things, the history of surgery, psychiatry, addiction, public health and eugenics, this is still in large part a high-grade soap opera, although it is helped a great deal by some interesting characters, good performances, typically Soderberghian atypical filming choices, and Cliff Martinez. Without even including medical negligence, at least five of the main cast of characters turn out to be murderers.

The acting is SUPERB, simply, and what is also quite simply amazing is the insight into the world of medical science and the incredible inaccuracies that ruled that particular world some hundred years ago.

S1: 80, S2: 88. Among the best things Soderbergh has ever done. The music by Cliff Martinez is amazing

Season 1 is great. Fantastic soundtrack, excellent camerawork, interesting characters and story. Season 2 is a good continuation; enjoyable and beautifully created, but only rarely exciting. -- Easily annihilates every other modern TV show.

William Halstead is one of the most fascinating people I've ever read about. This series does his life story great justice. Phenomenal acting from the entire cast. Overall, a great period piece; definitely one of the best for this era. Required viewing for anyone interested in medicine.

Pleasant to luxuriate in, but it's also the sort of thing I immediately forget about. I'll continue to watch, and continue to feel slightly guilty about wasting my life. [i felt similarly about Breaking Bad--where I'm just watching monkeys dance in stylish ways, but not really engaging with it in any meaningful way. woe is me, etc. (sorry about the diatribe . .) it all just feels like amnesia]

If you're not watching this then you definitely should! It's incredible how much entertainment they continually cram into an hour. Best show on television after Game of Thrones.

Reviewing as of S02E02 (one of the best episodes). Maybe a bit early but along with "Mr. Robot" this will make surviving the absence of "Mad Men" a tad more bearable for me. Like the aforementioned shows, it is brought to life by its committed style and vast range of complex characters. The raw surgeries cause you to grimace yet its all at the same time utterly fascinating. Hope syringes being shoved into toe veins aren't a deal breaker for you all!

Has the potential to be one of the most innovative television shows ever produced. And I'm not just saying that because I'm an utter whore for anything Soderbergh. Actually, maybe I am... But seriously, this show here is where the models for producing film and television collide.
