Joy Ride

A solid comedy through and through. The opening bit made me laugh a lot and set my expectations high, but it did taper off a bit. It made me laugh enough to be a legitimate comedy movie but it's definitely not one of the greats. The cast has good chemistry.

It's whatever but I guess I'm just not a huge comedy fan.

A few giggles and good performances but too derivative and cliched to be worthwhile.

Joy Ride has a lot of endearing elements and uplifting moments to come away feeling good about the representation of its characters and culture. It has a lot to say which is something very rare from the comedy genre. Unfortunately, it also is held back by some very hit or miss humor elements, and a lot of it feels edgy & raunchy to the point it becomes obnoxious, and if it’s meant to serve as a self depreciating satire, it just misses the genuine humor to serve along side it’s story.

This is a funny comedy. There are a number of funny moments and scenes in this movie. The script also has some good serious moments as well. The ensemble cast all work well together. Overall I would recommend this film,

A little too uneven to qualify as a homerun, but I had a good time with it.

This was such a fun movie! It's not going to change your life or anything, but it's a really good time. Truly solid performances from every member of the cast.

Hangover, Euro Trip, and Crazy Rich Asians but raunchy girl style. Good enough to have us quote lines and make references the rest of the night.

I enjoyed this movie, even though it is not the genre I usually enjoy. Worth a watch as there is some fun to be had.

I liked the overall theme of Audrey not belonging and her Chinese friends of varying Asianness calling her out on it. I'm glad this was a 90 minute film since there were already some filler moments. Nice build-up of the tattoo. Nice premise but there wasn't enough material so a lot of it is filled with shock gags. On rewatch I'd probably fast-forward through a lot. Fav scene: Audrey with the Hindi and Australian guys making a connection at the bar.

Joy Ride is a tonal roller-coaster. There are some genuinely funny moments, one or two touching ones, and a lot of smut...which is fine, but the film seems to use some of it as a crutch for weak writing. Park, Cola, Hsu and Wu have good chemistry, and that's largely why the film works. Too often does the plot resolve into clichés at the expense of creating something great, leaving an amusing but middling comedy.

Unabashedly crude throughout. I've heard it playfully called the hangover on wish. That's the selling point so if that's not what you're after it's probably not for you. Some sappy stuff as well (which my wife appreciated). Decent comedic timing, but followed too many straightforward tropes to separate itself from the pack. That said I'd say it's a 6.3 worthwhile effort.

Pleasantly surprised with this "Hangover meets Crazy Rich Asians" comedy with a pleasing amount of heart towards the conclusion. It's also nice to see this type of movie without having to cast big names; I love Awkwafina, but I don't want them to fall into the trap of thinking she HAS to be in every mainstream Asian comedy. This is a box office flop in all likelihood, but it doesn't deserve to be, and I hope it's one of those movies that has a groundswell of support after its opening weekend.
