The "boy next door, if that boy spent lots of time alone in the basement," is how Rich Cohen described Kyle MacLachlan in a 1994 article for "Rolling Stone" magazine. That distinctly askew wholesomeness made MacLachlan a natural to become famous as the alter ego of twisted director David Lynch. Born and a raised in Yakima, Washington, MacLachlan graduated from the University of Washington in 1982. The darkly handsome actor made his feature debut when he starred in the big-budget David Lynch adaptation of Frank Herbert's Dune (1984), but only enjoyed real success after appearing in a second Lynch project, the moody and perverse classic Blue Velvet (1986).

This show that is tailor-made for 30's-something women is not great nor even good. Sex and the City halfheartedly tries to say something about modern women through the main characters sexploits but it is never deep and often stupid. All that said, of all the episodes I've watched, I could never bring myself to hate this. It is what it is.

A show about whoredom in NYC. Worthless.

Like many, many men, I have a significant other who worships at the altar of this show and has seen every episode many times (her ability to quote so many scenes line-for-line in a 94-episode series is equal parts appalling and impressive), while I tolerate it at best. That said, if I had to choose between listening to her watch this or reality TV, I'll take this. Despite never more than half-watching, I think I've half-watched EVERY SINGLE EPISODE, so I don't feel dishonest rating it.

Based off maybe half an episode viewed in 2005, I'm rating this to round out my bottom tiers. I feel thankful I ended up with a partner who has never made me watch this with her.

Always disappointing when your parents would get a free trial of HBO and you'd watch this thinking you'd get to see some boobs and instead would see man ass. It accurately shows how devastating it is for women to go from guy to guy with no regards for the future and shows how miserable post wall women become. Just not something I want to watch

Carrie, they just didn't get you like I did. Sure, you weren't the best partner but this new trend of shitting on you and saying Big was justified in treating you the way he did is insane considering the psychological warfare that man was subjecting you to. I love this show and god did it make me crave cigarettes.

A series about strong, independent women with the message that... well, don't be too strong or independent or you'll also be fucking miserable. I'll happily accept a tradwife who owns this as a box set.

ok, the first season of this is actually good. It's funny, stupid, and campy; an on the nose depiction of postfeminism. However, the jokes get repetitive very quickly and the characters fall flat --they seem to get less and less complex with each episode, distilled into predictable cartoons with one single personality trait each. From what I remember of the films, the tv show is better

it's not as girly as it always seemed to me lol. best is prob the start. maybe S2 best overall, S3 similar - S1 might compete with that. maybe S2/3 when they got good silly comedy going. S4 worse, S5 kept that going then got better than it. S6 worst - prob cuz the russian bf.

If you were in NYC in the early aughts, this was fun. If not... prepare yourself for a lot of irrational behavior from females who think they're a lot smarter than they actually are. Except for Samantha, of course, who is actually a gay man.

Really over the top. Around season 4, Carrie's humor and personality change and she becomes always smiling with a Joker-like face, basically a clown flaunting bad jokes and high heels. Hiding Big's real name throughout the series reminded me of Scrubs (the Janitor), and I enjoyed that. Maybe the show would have been more interesting and provocative if seen in real time (from '98), but it just doesn't cut it in 2021.

I appreciate it for being sex positive in a time where that was more taboo, and for some stories that were really interesting and insightful takes on relationships from a woman's perspective. I didn't love how much it relied on really bad puns and trying to make every storyline in each episode sort of thematically linked, but at least that fit the format of the show. Worst thing about the show is the central will-they-won't-they love story with Carrie and Big, which I never ever rooted for.

I avoided this as much as possible but still somehow managed to see multiple episodes and pieces of dozens of other ones. Its obviously tailored to women, but I just can't see how someone can really enjoy this.

Sometimes very clever and insightful about sex and relationships. Sometimes way too bogged down in petty drama... but it fit the insecure nature of a few of the characters. I still very much enjoyed the ride.
