This movie is like if Quentin Tarantino turned It's a Wonderful Life into a Lifetime original movie. How can you get lame performances from so many talented actors (Mirren, Norton, Pena, Winslet)? Just ask David Frankel.

It is shocking to rate a movie with Will Smith, Ed Norton, Keira Knightly and Helen Mirren so low, but this was some of the worst nonsense ever written. Not to say the performances were not good, it's just such a dissatisfying movie that all that star power seemed pointless and wasted. Horrible writing full of nonsense intended to tug at your heartstrings but which fails miserably. Frankly, I can not recommend this movie to anyone even though I adore the actors.

SPOILERS: There are two twists near the very end, one of which is bad and pointless, the other of which is bad, pointless, and damaging. Actually, they might both be damaging, but given how trite and confused the film is already, it's not like there was far to fall. Some okay performances and a glossy production make it a modicum more tolerable.

Credit to the actors, who look like they are doing this recreational instead of work. It shows how much Collateral Beauty lacks depth and vision. 43/100.

Seems like a quick project for many of these hollywood superstars. They are all doing this with their hands tied on their backs, blindfolded. Latimore was a high point. It only runs for some 90 minutes, and still feels long. *Bad

If they were going to take that route, there was so much they could have done with this scenario... and THAT'S all they could come up with. Love the cast. Got to give credit for them trying, but this was a hopeless mess.

No character development, no depth, too many cliche metaphors. Will Smith's & Helen Mirren's acting is the only positive worth mentioning about it.

I've read somewhere that all of the actors in this movie should fire their agents. Well they should, really.

First third was just awful. Actors and writers phoned everything in. Improved somewhat after that.

It's near impossible to make a movie with no redeeming features - but damned if Collateral Beauty doesn't hits the zero-stars jackpot. The unholy mess that director David Frankel and screenwriter Allan Loeb have unleashed for the holidays strands an all-star cast - including Will Smith, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Edward Norton and Keira Knightley - on a sinking ship that churns the waters from absurd to zombified with frequent stops at pretentious.

Collateral Beauty is a huge waste of time and talent. Positioned with a prime release date, the studio clearly envisioned that it would be a player come awards time. Will Smith mopes for 90 minutes while convoluted and contrived events occur around him, all while the film spouts intellectual B.S. about how one should live life and tries to manipulate the heartstrings of an audience that is far more likely to laugh at its idiocy than buy in.

one of the most boring movies ever and i felt no emotional connection to any character in it, it is the pure definition of a good message ruined by boring dialogue & bad acting

A great pool of acting talent, and handsome production design, are kind of fascinatingly squandered on a limp, cornball production, with a screenplay (and ultimate resolution) that would make the Hallmark company roll their eyes. Never unwatchable, and the actors themselves can’t be faulted, working overtime to bring some life and sincerity to their empty headed characterisations; this may have scraped by as a guilty pleasure if not for the increasingly ridiculous revelations in the final act.

I believe this is one the critics got wrong. Beautiful movie about a very sad subject. The loss of a child.

Not sure why the critics hated it. Maybe because it is harsh to think about people who suffer tremendous losses and grief. Maybe because you need a tolerance for melancholy. Or maybe you just need to have kids of your own. Will Smith does a great job, and gets away with playing a very difficult emotional character.

So much hatred for such a truly wonderful movie. When it ended my wife wanted to watch again. Great writing with none of the usual political and social agenda that so overtakes 99 percent of hollywood movies.

Slightly better than the avrage review, but it's not an Oscar nominee. Will Smith is a good actor but there's so much he can do with this script. An okay movie overall.

Collateral Beauty is a missed opportunity. The first half of the film is vibrant, funny and well-shot, which is a shame as the second half devolves into an unending recitation of greeting cards. The film would have benefited from 50% less Smith, cutting Harris' character (as her plot-line with Smith is tired and uninspired) and a bigger focus on the comedy / manipulation.

Since critics shat all over this movie (below 20% on rottentomatoes right now), I expected something awful. Far from that, it managed to move my heartstrings, which very few movies can do. It's not my favorite style of movie and it has lots of weak and dumb moments so I can't rate it more than 5/10, but it was pretty good for what it was. Give it a chance, ignore the critics.
