"She's fat. But she acts like she's the shit. Don't you get it? It's inappropriate. It's funny. She falls on her face a lot! Because she's fat! I...what's not getting through here? She's dancing, but hits a lot of people with her fat arms and body flailing aroun...ough. Why do I bother? You just don't get it." Pitching this must've been a blast.

You got McCarthy, Sarandon, Janney, Bates, Aykroyd... yeah, but you still have to give them something to do. Tammy has some really nice bits, but overall tends to tread water in a sub-par Sideways plot.

I like McCarthy as an actress, but her recent turn into a comedic gross mess is not to my taste. Why did I watch Tammy then? I don't know. It was worse than I expected. Consider this review me questioning myself as to why I didn't stop the film in the first five minutes. Like, I knew it was going to suck, was I just in the throes of a pizza hangover? Could I not just reach over to the remote and press stop? What happened, me?

Despite the support from some great actors, this comedy has far too few laughs and the drama becomes tedious and boring. Tammy's charm wears off quickly and most of the humor falls more into the category of stupid than funny. There are a few good moments but not enough to carry it. I could see what they were trying to do, but they failed to develop convincing characters or a story you could care about.

Tammy's but a walking shadow, a poor player That struts and frets her hour upon the stage And then is heard no more: it is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.

Tammy is an awful comedy, a terrible movie, and a reminder that allowing actor's free rein over projects can sometimes result in atrocities. It often works, I'll admit, but this isn't one of those times. Tammy is unfunny, has absolutely nothing going in its favor, and doesn't justify even a quarter of its 90 minute running time. I laughed maybe three times. Most of the audience was just as dead. It's not just me this time. This is a boring and unfunny movie which gives you no reason to watch it.

If I were to make this film - always a dangerous thing to say - I'd focus on the Bates-Oh relationship and McCarthy would just be a guest to their house. But I will say that there is a sincerity in McCarthy's performance that transcends the 'fat chick' shtick.

I think there might have been a good movie here considering the film is willing to engage with Tammy's baggage but not in a way which questions her character as anyone who antagonizes her bombastic idiocy is portrayed to be unreasonable and unlikable. The chemistry between Tammy and her grandmother is good, but the latter's issues is given weight but little consequence; as in there is clear conflict but the plot didn't want to engage with any real reflection with her character.

A lot of McCarthy films have annoyingly didactic, dogmatic, conservative endings. Even the funnier ones. This was pretty funny for the first half, but tanks toward the end.

This movie has a weird mix of comedy and drama. The tone shift between the comedy and the drama does not really work. The actors try to do a good job with the material but the screenplay lets them down. All the main actors have been any better films before.

Well..here's what this movie caused: 2 or 3 laughs, the question where the hilarious McCarthy spirit was hiding and the realization how much I miss Sandra Oh on Grey's Anatomy. Long story short: you better not waste your time on that one.

McCarthy is the only highlight here; her trademark blend of self-deprecating slapstick and decidedly "unfeminine" and unaware mannerisms produces lots of laughs throughout. Elsewhere, Sarandon is awfully awkward and forms a terribly miscast three generations of women with Janney and McCarthy. The rest of the oddly stacked cast flounders amidst the film's weak attempt at being a romantic dramedy, with its contrived storylines and insubstantial characters. Some good comedy here but not much else.

This movie needs to turn in its badge and paper bag gun. Tammy was kind of a disappointing mess. It was having more of an identity crisis than its main character Tammy, played by Melissa McCarthy. Was it a crime film, a comedy, a buddy film, a road trip movie, a romance perhaps? It tried to be all these things and never really reached what it was supposed to be. So even though MCCarthy's life was a mess, she looked neat and tidy compared to the plot...

By the book poor systematic comedy. McCarthy is funny, but not in a boring , predictable waste like this.

i guess i liked it more than most because i went in expecting basically an insipid thing like "identity thief" all over again but this was not that. its certainly fluff, but i laughed a few times and didn't cringe or get angry all that much. susan sarandon was awesome as was her old lady hair.

Very occasional funny but mostly just sad. McCarthy should be doing better films than the ones she can write for herself.

While its another similar character for McCarthy there's no denying she's fun to watch and there is enough here to enjoy.

No coherent explanations in the plot, little to no drama or suspense, a plot that hands you everything without any obstacles, and a movie that wants me to laugh at things that I don't see why are so funny. Grapes! I mean, next!

Works better as a low-key indie dramedy than the slapstick comedy it was often marketed as. I do still wish Melissa McCarthy would try something closer to her role as Sookie on Gilmore Girls, but she at least branches out a little here, and her chemistry with Susan Sarandon is surprisingly strong.

I think Melissa McCarthy is a good screen presents and a good comic actress but this film doesnt reflect any of these qualities. Considering she was part of the writing process the script isnt funny at all. There isnt one laugh outloud moment in this film and if there was it's probably featured in the trailer. This is now the 3rd time McCarthy has played the 'tomboy' character and its become incredibly tiresome. I would recommend watching Bridesmaids again instead of wasting time with this!

There is, finally, a positive denouement--five minutes of happy ending that even raunchy-comedy-obsessed audiences seem to subliminally expect. But those facile "I'm getting better now" moments feel utterly tagged on. And even with a golden girl actress driving things, they don't begin to make the previous 90 minutes of low road ribaldry worth the trip, (pluggedin.com)

The biggest comedy misfire in recent years. None of the jokes had me laughing, and when the story turns serious the character's journey just isn't interesting. The writing lacks flow and scenes feel disconnected. Worst of all, it completely wastes a talented cast, giving great actors like Toni Collette, Kathy Bates and Allison Janney nothing interesting to work with. The more serious scenes worked better than the comedic elements, and I did think McCarthy had nice chemistry with Mark Duplass.
