I have a Love-Hate relationship with this show: Love, for the deft, analytical approach it mostly takes towards *issues rarely provided his platform (Miss America, FIFA, and U.S. Nuclear weapons, for example, are all inspired segments). Hate, because when Oliver and his team approach *individuals they don't like, the jabs become superficial, spiteful, and ultimately meaningless. These rare occasions typify an aloof, smug liberal stereotype, out of touch when all evidence says they shouldn't be.

This is the definition of propaganda. There is not a single person on TV who is more politically biased than him, even on Fox News. The worst part is, the majority of his fans don't even think there is any bias and take everything he says as fact. This is not a news show, this is an opinion show. Watching this show to get an opinion is one thing, but watching this as a form of news is how you end up looking at the world through a keyhole.

concentrated libtardism unfotunately. de facto propaganda with usual dirty commies tricks : false arguments pined to one side -> "debunking" n "ridiculing" by a host ->background laughter. repeat 50 times. conditioning at finest. avoid if u r not pavlovian dog already.

Formulaic "edgy" political show that occasionally hits a homer but often hits a ground out to the pitcher. John Oliver isn't as funny as he thinks he is and his annoying British accent can be insufferable at times. His report on accepting refugees is one of the saddest things in hindsight. At least issue an apology you coward

Sometimes the premise is flawed, the research bad, sometimes it’s overly sensationalist on a thin premise. He lost me when he was concern trolling over “Is Bernie Sanders a socialist menace”? But overall, despite that, the show is generally well done. If you accept that it has as strong of a propagandist bias as RT. Oliver is also generally hilarious when not being too scatological with his humor.

A perfect show for someone with an attention problem, someone who can't think for themselves, and/or someone who just prefers an anti-intellectual, anti-logical echo chamber. Oliver is smug, condescending, shrill, arrogant, self-deprecating, unfunny, and extraordinarily obnoxious. If you're someone who values logic, this show will drive you insane. Oliver and his propaganda is arguably one the biggest problems with our society. This is not news, it's opinion, and they're mostly all very bad.

The formula is blatant (stay out of the break room, Carol!) but Last Week Tonight is far more willing to be "serious" journalism than its predecessors, and the changes it has inspired in its short run showcase the effects of doing more than just snidely sniping at Fox News. The kind of show that entertains, informs and educates without any aspect of it feeling forced. EDIT: Drumpf shit was inexcusable.

The obvious successor to John Stewart, this Brit seems to be able to put a finger on the sheer lunacy, hypocrisy and stunning stupidity in the world today. I just wish there was more of it.

It's almost very, very good. Terrific topics. Excellent broad strokes coverage. But the more you know about a topic they're covering the less you're gonna like an episode. They don't do nuance and complexity well when you get down into the nitty gritty, and while that's understandable given the time constraints that knowledge should inform and soften some of their positions.

The most depressing comedy news show currently on the air, which I mean as an utmost compliment. Oliver does a better job than even CNN in highlighting and bringing to public attention many of the injustices in both the US and abroad, and he does it a completely accessible, digestible manner, and some episodes are even genuine triumphs in investigative journalism. Not always funny, but always entertaining and informative.

Less funny than its peers but more consequential. Often didactic and infantile but seems more honest and better researched than other left-leaning pundits.

Hilarious, but perhaps more importantly feels as though it is actively attempting to cause positive change in the world. Often educational/insightful and the ways in which the unnecessarily large HBO budget is spent are genius.

John Oliver is much like his compatriots in Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert but comparatively speaking he's much less funny. The show mostly works as his left-wing soapbox. Unfortunately, like Colbert and Stewart, he often misrepresents others and puts their statements out of context, representing a clouded view of their arguments. Oliver's stances are not entirely without merit, but he often presents them with no sense of irony and he is very condescending about his perspective.

More straightforward political commentary than the parody, talk-show and sketch-comedy additives offered by other satirical news personalities. He has been wrong on occasion, but for the most part, Oliver and his writers present a smart, commonsensical progressive view of the news with hilarious humor.

I like John Oliver and his personality, even going far as to say that I agree with his views. This show also got me an A on what would have been a really hard paper in English, so thanks for that. Might be a hit or miss on one day, but it still is quality television.

Not incredibly substantial, but much better than Jon Stewart and somewhat ok-ish for one of these... things. [edit: actually, the more I see of this the more annoying I find it]. [edit no. 2: this is -awful- now].

I'm always a little bit held back from these hard left leaning fake news satirists. I will agree with 85% or more of what they say and I genuinely think they are funny, but there is never any middle ground or solution to the problem with which they skewer. Maybe that isn't their job, but it irks me sometimes. That said, I would highly recommend this to anybody.
