Probably the best soundtrack to a TV show of all time. Worth watching for the music alone but the show has a weird habit of building up to an awesome crescendo of visuals and music and then not following through on it. Characters often walk with purpose through a fiery old English street armed to the teeth and you think, oh yeah it's about to go down, and then instead they walk inside their aunts house and have tea. Frequent build up with little pay off.

Though entirely fictional, this is seriously impressive as period reconstruction; between the gorgeous sets and those aspects of the writing, and in spite of a distractingly tone-deaf modern soundtrack, it's an immersive show. Sadly, the writing is the usual TV cheesiness, with simplistic dialogue, plot and characterizations that never stray from convention, and great pains taken not to offend modern sensibilities. By the end of season 2 the script goes full retard.

The first season is 90, the second season is 80, the 3rd season hovers between 50 & 60. Actors were great; writing was to blame. Trying much too hard to be fashionable, lost sight of realism & plot. Increasingly contrived drama & far fetched conflicts. By season 3, all female characters complete abandon logic as they become “liberated”. “Strong females” are all erratic & overly emotional, even the formerly brilliant ones. But such a great cast & setting!

This is in the heavy-hitters list of the crime series. That opening credits with Red Right Hand, the acting, the intricacy of the characters and the plots, the craziness, and the fockin' accent!!!, particularly Arthur and Alfie. It is near perfect for the first two seasons, then it loses a bit of steam but still, it is excellent and head and shoulder above most series (it is in the same sphere with Fargo and The Wire for me).

The gangster genre done right! It delivers some of the best, most memorable characters in TV history, they're so well realized and fleshed out that you get to know them very well.Cillian Murphy is one of the most underrated actors working today,he is amazing as well as the rest of the equally underrated cast of actors. Also have to mention Tom Hardy who is not underrated by any means but beyond amazing. The soundtrack is also a thing of beauty creating an amazingly cool style for the show.

Improves itself season-over-season, and fully takes advantage of it's period setting, from it luscious production design to the backdrop of the battling contemporary ideologies of fascism vs. communism, Irish Republicanism vs. British Imperialism, tradition vs. modernism. I have no idea if this is a respectful portrayal of the Angloromani community, but heck, at least this show is motivating me to read up more on it.

The first couple of seasons are great, third is plain boring, fourth with Brody is almost back on track, but then at the start of season five the show turns to some sort of soapy music video and never truly recovers. Has only a couple of developed characters (Tommy and Arthur), the rest are cardboard. The ending feels unfinished, like they wanted to do another season but gave it up. And why are all the women in the show neurotic assholes?

Recommend to anyone interested in gangster TV series. Great music, cinematography. Story line sometimes has too many unpredictable turns though. Last season has couple of masterpiece episodes that feels like last circles of hell but the ultimate episode is all over the place and feels unsatisfactory. Like suddenly they ran out of time and couldn't finish the story in a proper way. Also left room for next seasons so it lacks proper closure.

Ups and downs. Very strong start but the characters are fully explored by season 2 and start jumping the shark one by one. Writers fully ran out of ideas somewhere around season 3 and started sprinkling the story with gratuitous woke fan service. Not too much by today's standards, but still annoying.

6.Sezonu merakla bekliyoruz.

[only watched season 1] Lazy, over-expository writing, mediocre aesthetics with mediocre music accompanying slo. mo. sequences that signify nothing, with cliché editing. Murphy is always interesting to watch, but Neill is absolutely -awful.- I would watch a show about the gay accountant guy tho'.

s1: 80 // s2: 80 // s3: 60 // s4: 70 // s5: 65 // s6: 50 Brilliant cast although sometimes feels a little thin. As long as the characters are huge, you're distracted from how small the show is which is strange to say because I preferred the smaller scope first seasons. Cillian Murphy is fantastic and, of course, Tom Hardy is a (bit overused) awesome spice.

Great visual style and Murphy is fantastic, but everyone else (besides Arthur) is one-dimensional and the soundtrack gets obnoxious, especially how many times they cram in "Red Right Hand". I actually lost track of who the various villains were and what their motivations were supposed to be after the first couple of seasons. Best part easily is whenever Tom Hardy shows up.
