The reviewers have it wrong, friend; Gervais' laugh is absolutely hysterical. Talking Funny was a fantastic 49 minutes or so, and it is definitely deserving of recognition. Age, race, and character contrast in each of these great comedians, and it is quite an endearing sight for all of their differences to come together, with much laughter and thought. Will be remembered and recommended.

This should've been an extended series and not a one-off episode. There are a few interesting anecdotes and discussions on the process of creating standup comedy, but it's mostly quite shallow. Perhaps the largest problem is Gervais, who is clearly out of his depth; his attempts to intellectualize standup comedy waste time, are awkward, and are rebuffed by his more experienced peers. He should've played the role of host rather than active participant.

It's just a shame it's only 50 minutes long. Sitting, listening to these guys talk about comedy and whatnot was interesting, educational and yes, funny. But this isn't just them making jokes: they make them, certainly, but they go into depth about their routines and their philosophy.

what is the deal with everyone dissing Gervais on this? He was the most articulate aliong with CK, with the better insights on comedy.

Would rate higher for sheer hilarity from C.K. and Rock, but Gervais unbearable cackling is hard to get past.

Good group discussion by three great stand-ups (and Ricky Gervais), musing over comedy in general and their own takes on it. Interesting, entertaining and thought-provoking, it's a must for anyone who considers themselves a fan of this great art. The biggest disappointment, bar Gervais (seriously, was there nobody better available??), is that it's just a one-off, as you feel they all have so much more to say.

With Ricky Gervais 85/100. Without Ricky Gervais 100/100.

As a performer, I find discussions of performance craft like this extremely interesting. Glancing at some of the other comments... I guess I shouldn't be surprised Ricky Gervais is so polarizing--it seems you love him or you hate him. I happen to love him, and Louis C.K. I also enjoyed Jerry's observations more than expected.

A really good idea (four great comics talking about comedy) and an interesting chat. Louis C.K. stands out not only as one of the most genuinely funny guys out there but also as a person with intelligent yet unpretentious views on comedy and humour. This being only 50 minutes (edited from an apparent 4- or 5-hour-long discussion) means they're tackling less topics than they could - and also they are tackling them in a less in-depth manner than possible. We want an uncut version!

Little has felt more candid and charming recently than Seinfeld doing one of Louis' lines, and we realize that he's instinctively taken Louis' stream-of-consciousness and made it a well-packaged, bona fide joke. Or when he riffs on Rock's old bit about the difference between black and white porn, taking a gag all about black and white stereotypes and sponging out Jewish ones.

This is a quite interesting concept, but they didn't think out the structure too well. With the short running time, all of the interesting topics get aborted while others seem like attempts at variety. A miniseries of more focused episodes would have been better. The panelists are also uneven: Louis C.K. and Gervais are the most insightful, Seinfeld seems most knowledgeable, and Rock contributes little.

Enjoyable, but more of a glorified podcast than a "film."

Really funny and interesting -Gervais got them discussing philosophies, stage persona's and how they work. The sheer weight of Seinfeld's ego damped things down a little though.

Aside from being quite funny, I liked this for the way the comedians analyzed their profession, sometimes agreeing with each other and sometimes not. I enjoyed the anecdotes too. Oh, and also because of "Sitting on a cock 'cause I'm gay."

The classic comedian, the it guy, the Brit guy and as Gervais put it the black guy. More of a slapped together casual conversation coupled with a few vertebrae topics to hold it together. This led to a handful of interrupted stories which I wouldn't mind if they backtracked & ultimately followed up on.
