Two old guys rekindle their lost friendship in the course of walking the Appalachian Trail. I was surprised by how long these two out of shape, old guys lasted on their hike. Surviving an accidental fall left them stranded on a ledge & helped them reconnect with their lives. A few beautiful scenic views. The movie is slow & plodding, & there is not much action other than the banter between them & the occasional stop at random place with random people. Oh, & there were bears. It passes the time.

Not good or bad. A few really good laughs and an enjoyable story. Worth the rental, but not the ticket price.

Robert Redford & Nick Nolte go for A Walk in the Woods (2015) and looking their age for a harmless and amusing hike. I simply love old Nick Nolte. He doesn't look human. Then again, he never has. He's just less scary and more out of breath these days, which is a good thing in these realizing ones age films.

It's a coming of age film for those who have already come of age. It does its job with the plot and lovable characters, but the overall execution isn't there.

A Walk in the Woods is an "old person" hiking movie that's about as exciting as that description sounds. There are a few moments of genuine humor, there's only one scene that's truly terrible, and Redford and Nolte are good, but there's so little to it that it serves little purpose more than being a distraction you'll forget about it in a couple of hours. It's not this year's Wild, unfortunately. If it's about the journey, not the destination, then this journey isn't one worth watching.

A cross between yesteryear's "Wild" and "Land Ho!", but much cheesier than either of them. While watching Robert Redford and Nick Nolte being funny out in nature is not devoid of pleasure, essentially there's nothing to take away from such a cliched script.

Although far from engrossing at times, this film manages to saunter through the world with exactly the same detached and yet curious charm that it's protagonist does. However, there is no denying that it really drags in places, and no amount of slight likability can save it from it's own sense of purposelessness.

Just very sweet and charming. Couple of laughs and a couple of parts where the sentimentality of the whole thing kinda work (even tho it's the tiredest of cliches). Surprising cameo by Schaal. See Land Ho! by Katz if this interested you and you love old people like I do.

It's very slight, more a series of occurrences than a narrative. That said, 2 hours of hiking about some scenery with Robert Redford worked for me and Nick Nolte didn't grate too much.

It's very much a thin plot and a silly movie in some places, but it's exactly the sort of film I wanted. 08/MAR/2023

What was the point of it? One of the safest films I've seen in a long time - characters could not get punished for any of their actions, which ultimately led to the whole story being pointless. What happened exactly? They walked, they talked, there was poor comic relief, and then they walked out changed. Poor effort.

I thought the concept had potential but the execution is threadbare.

I had a decent time watching this one. Not all actors can pull off anything impressive forty years past their prime, but Redford and Nolte certainly haven't lost anything with age aside from looks. The hat goes off to Nolte, though, who has impressed me multiple times now with his crochety, somewhat pathetic old fogey routine. I dare say he's more entertaining now than he ever was.

I had high hopes for "A Walk in the Woods," but it was too foolish to enjoy.

A pretty tepid plot with thin characters and not enough laughs to sustain itself. The leads are indeed talented but that is the only thing this going for it.

An okay adaptation of Bill Bryson's novel. Redford and Nolte are good at playing grumpy old men, as expected, but the film is stuck somewhere between being a silly comedy and an uplifting drama, never quite achieving either.

Bill Bryson usually is a delighful, hilarious read. It didn't translate that well into film.

Adapted from the book by Bill Bryson. Doesn't really offer much except for the scenes with Mary Ellen (a hiker who tags along with Bryson and his friend briefly), and some of the shots of the Appalachian Trail itself.

Occasionally chucklesome but ultimate fairly mundane, where Nick Nolte is out-acted by the scenery.

Knowing this is based on real life events adds weight to it but ultimately, it's just a harmless vehicle for all involved. It's not terrible, but it doesn't really add anything new to a story told before. The cast is great and it's a little fun film that will pass you by on a weekend.

Movie is too safe. Rushy breaking point and expected character arc. But its still a good Sunday noon movie with family.

Not very memorable, despite a decent cast. Redford wasn't a convincing Bryson to me. I've always pictured Bryson as more like Nolte's scenery-chewing character. Still, I gave him the benefit of the doubt because I was up for seeing a hiking movie set on the Appalachian Trail. Well, the things that happened on their walk were mostly of the silly and cheap variety, that would get your blood pumping only if you were middle-aged and overweight. Could be it scored well in its demographic? Or not.

Some chuckles for sure in this coming of (old) age , but it's so silly its hard to take any of the dramatic aspects seriously.

Two grumpy old men hiking. Sounds old-fashioned, but was quite entertaining. My opinion here : http://opinion-as-a-moviefreak.blogspot.be/2016/01/a-walk-in-woods-2015.html
