"The Boogeyman "disappointingly recycles horror tropes, rendering it generic and easily forgettable. Despite an appealing attempt to create suspense and fear around the classic 'monster in the closet' concept, it lacks the originality to make it memorable. Savage's direction results in a few modest scares, with the standout moment being David Dastmalchian's compelling performance. However, the themes of trauma and grief, as well as the creature design, feel uninspired and unoriginal.

Most logical and behavioral flaws i’ve seen in a while. And why is this the Boogeyman? It’s not even a man, it’s an insect-like alien! The BoogeyMAN?? A man???

If you've seen one, you've seen them all. Those types of movies blur into one giant mush of mediocrity and repeated cliches. My first associations were Babadook, and It Follows, but it's like many, many more. The ending was disappointing and way too happy. Also, the real monster wasn't the Boogeyman, it was that blonde high school girl.

eating a week old bread is scarier and more unpredictable than watching this stale remix of horror tropes.

Pretty solid for what I expected to be a run of the mill horror of the week. Decent thrills and and a good job of building up the dread throughout. Sadie's friend Natalie was insufferable to the nth degree. I didn't understand making that character that intolerable, but otherwise it was a good watch. One small gripe was during the dark scenes I experienced a significant amount of black crush which ruined any details in the shot. Not sure if my Dolby vision was off or was my copy. 6.5 overall.

Felt like an outlier in the fact that I really enjoyed this. Remember almost everything from the movie. It's horrific, it's fun, silly and relatable, and heartwarming.

As a person who's legitimately terrified of the dark (I have nyctophobia, stemming from childhood experiences living in a desolate country house where... things happened at night), I think it's really sad this failed to trigger me even once. There cannot be an easier target than me. The movie is more of a visual spectacle where, instead, it should really have reigned in what is shown and opted more for the "Paranormal Activity" approach where the imagination of the viewer is their worst enemy.

Sorry. Been there, done that. Turned this one off. Good production value, but it just didn't do anything new for me.

I haven't read the short story but as far as King adaptations go, I found this pretty good. I can't say it does anything very original and if you're not watching horror movies just because you like horror movies, you definitely have no reason to see this. But at the same time, I can't really say I have any major complaints about this either.

"The Boogeyman" is a 2023 horror film based on a family grappling with grief after the mother's death. A malevolent entity known as the boogeyman preys on their tragedy, leading to a fight for survival. The film effectively builds tension through sound design and offers a compelling creature design but ultimately follows a familiar monster movie formula. The performances are strong, but the plot lacks originality, resulting in a forgettable experience.

Ölüm ruhları. Kötü 1 karabasan, annelerini kaybeden ailelere musallat olur. 1 psikologa giden çaresiz baba, evinde ölünce, karabasan psikologun ailesine tuzağa düşürmeye başlar. 1 korku filminde korkabildik mi? Evet. Hatta gerim gerim geriliyoruz. Az oyuncu ve titreten müziğiyle de başarısını perçinlemiş. Stephen King'in filmlerini Hollywood iyi uyarlıyor. Filmin sonunda, bodrum katında yanıyorum. Karanlıkta film izlemek gözleri bozar.

Marketed as being really scary, I saw, but it's really not. It has some pretty creepy and effective moments, I liked the monster design a lot and the whole thing with being safer in the light. But then, characters act pretty stupid most of the time to expose themselves in dangerous situations and it felt annoying. As a horror movie it's still not bad. I liked the dynamic between the two sisters. It was cute and effective. It was okay, but not shockingly scary.

Stephen King’in 1973 tarihli kısa öyküsünden uyarlanan film karanlık ve aydınlığın alegorisi olabilirmiş, bu haliyle olmamış.

Cute little horror about a family falling apart after mom/wife's death, with a good cast and creature design.

Some pretty neat scenes, and a very good performance by Sophie Thatcher, can't really hide that we've seen this all before. Horror movies about grief have been done to death in recent years, and the boogeyman, while a cool monster design, doesn't stand a chance against the Babadook, the aliens in Quiet Place, or even the Smile when it comes to actually driving a plot. It's just a metaphor with claws.

“Really feels like a paint by numbers horror film of the time. The house is literally being taken over by the grief of death.” More here https://boringculture.substack.com/p/weekly-roundup-5

O versiyonu izlemek isterdim.

VERY generic especially with the script, but the most disappointing part is the Boogeyman itself, I mean... thats it?!?!

"The Boogeyman" shines in its deeply human storytelling and strong performances, especially from Sophie Thatcher as Sadie. The film effectively explores familial grief and blends emotional depth with atmospheric tension. However, the horror elements may not live up to expectations, and the PG-13 rating and slow-burn narrative could leave some viewers wanting more. The plot also has logical inconsistencies that may disrupt engagement.

What a boring movie. It seems they just wanted the title and Stephen King's name to market a random spooky movie. You can't help but think of better, similar movies while you watch it. Watch "Aliens", "Signs", "A Quiet Place", "The Ring", or "The Last of Us" instead.

I think this falls just short of my PSI for me while still doing some things that you don't see every day in modern horror - that is, having characters and performers that you might halfway invest in and suspend disbelief for. Sophie Thatcher is pretty good here and the family dynamic, when given room to ruminate, actually works. It could have even been given MORE time to do so had they wanted to. At the same time, this definitely bites on a lot of tropes and jumpscares. It's passable for sure.

Ne donnez plus autant d'argent à Rob Savage ! Ce mec est capable de faire un film d'horreur beaucoup plus spectaculaire avec son téléphone.

While The Boogeyman doesn't promise anything new in terms of story, director Rob Savage's touches elevate the film. The use of light and darkness in the creation of the creature is very successful. The sound design is awesome. If you're looking for a horror film that you want to scare you in the theater, this movie works. (Cineverse Kanyon - 05/31/2023)
