The least jokey piece of content I've ever seen from this guy -- he often just says weird things that happen in life, making them sound "funny" by raising the pitch in his voice towards the end of a sentence. I was let down, but there's some better, funnier, and more memorable material towards the end, particularly his views on his father's penis.

Louis puts on a suit and gets silly. At this point, you know what you're going to get in a C.K. stand-up special, and while it may not be as strong as his mid-to-late 00's run, it's still strong as heck.

Exploring, discussing but ultimately normalising and being comfortable with your aggressive xenophobia, misogyny, racism and homophobia. Perfect comedy for the mess that is Trump era US.

Louis makes parenthood funny while most comics bore you, talking about their shitty kids (looking at you Romano)

More or less marks the start of C.K.’s considerable fall from grace – and on that level, it is interesting to note that the set seems marked by a stagnant air of foreboding, as if C.K. is ditching the “rockstar” persona for something more respectable; he’s not quite on peak form, and his material has a repetitive and lackluster quality, though he does manage to land a couple of zingers in his normal style. It’s an otherwise passable but unremarkable set; a step-down from his peak efforts.

If you don't know Louie I'd suggest you start by watching Shameless, Horace and Pete, and episode 8 from season 2 of Louie. Everybody else probably knows already if they are a big fan or starting to get tired of his schtick.

Not his strongest material but I think that's due in part to his pushing the bar so high for a solid decade. Regardless of his masturbatory issues, he still remains one of the most talented stand-ups of my generation.

"Louis C.K. 2017" finds the legendary comedian in typical form: acerbic and angry but also witty and observant, he continues his streak as the 21st century's best. The material flows flawlessly, seamlessly orchestrated. Strikingly, there's vibrant imagery popping out now and then, as if he is directing a movie right in front of you. And there's even some life wisdom to be found, presented as unpretentiously as possible. "Don't be amazed that a butterfly died 'cause you shot it in the face".

I was kind of half-watching this while my house set up for a barbecue but it had a good amount of real funny parts. CK's TV stuff is way better than his stand-up imo

Doesn't reach the same highs as some of his others, but he's still undoubtedly one of the greatest. The sheer volume of his output is incredible given it's consistent quality.

This is not the Louis I know and kind of like. This man is unsure of himself and his jokes, sweating inside his pressure cooker of hype. [edit: it might also have to do with mastergate]

I don't know who told him to start dressing up and acting like a grownup but it's ruining it for me

While this has a lot of good material, I can't help but to feel he's on cruise control here. A lot of the bits are expansions on old material. Solid and you'll enjoy it but shouldn't be wowed.

There's some good stuff but also some really dumb jokes, probably to broaden the appeal

Still sharing the throne with a grinning skeletal george carlin. Literally everyone else in the business is a piece of shit parasite.

One of his best acts, only weakens somewhat toward the end.

There are laughs here but they're few and far between, and rarely ever linked together, meaning you're sat po-faced throughout just waiting to be tickled. The material's not great and he meanders for too long between his points, making the performance feel like a slightly sozzled after-dinner speech. This is the first time Louis CK has left me dozing off on the couch.

Louis is the greatest of all time at explaining the ordinary and mundane with a perverted twist. The material here gets stretched thin, but Louis doubles down again and again, with hilarious results. His showmanship and physicalness has perhaps never been better.
