The Sanderson sisters still have some fun, and the kids are almost entirely forgettable. The humor is pretty on par with the first. This is probably objectively better than the original, but it doesn't really add much new to give it a reason for existing beyond just going back to the well.

I mean, I give the three ladies props for being able to come back to these roles 30 years later somehow looking exactly the same as they did back in the day. On the other hand, I can't forgive this movie for having such a boring lead cast and being generally bland from beginning to end.

Too much focus on being woke; not enough on making a good movie.

Hocus Pocus 1 and 2 are the perfect microcosm of cinematic storytelling from 30 years ago to today. Was there even a plot here? 5 points for the Roomba joke.

Having watched this back to back with the first one, which I was seeing for the first time, this one is much better, but that's damning with faint praise.

A worthy sequel to hocus pocus. In hindsight I probably underrated the original on here.

An alright sequel. Once again the witches carry the whole movie. The rest of the cast was mediocre at the best. I also did not care for the big music scene in this version.

(minor spoilers in review) The introduction of the flashback witch is a big plot hole given she never shows back up to interfere with anything, yet was there to in the flashback. The Sanderson actresses are fantastic- student actresses are solid. But it has a BS element for an ingredient for the big spell featured in this and yet it works- WHAT? The warning and playout of the spell when it is used- it's very unclear on its rules/consequences too. Still entertaining, bad 'rules' for its magic.

I really had to push hard to make it through the dreadful precredit scenes. This was like a dumber, cheaper, made-for-TV Disney channel original movie and that is not a compliment. The songs were more plentiful this time but they didn't work and felt really forced and out of place. Midler, Parker, and Najimy were great and the only reason I finished this thing.

Terrific acting from the witches, it’s a good nostalgia however the film is far from being imaginative or fun. The only pros is providing a backstory to complement their human facade.

Hocus Pocus 2 is just okay. 20 years on from the original, Midler, Parker & Najimy look great & fall seamlessly back into their respective roles, as does Jones. Hale & Richardson are good additions offering the more zany comedic moments. Peak & Escobedo are good leads, with just enough smarts to make them likeable. The problem is the film lacks the charm of the original. All the locations look noticeably like sets, and the slight redemption of the Sandersons makes the film less fun.

I don't have a nostalgic connection to the original so imo this is a pretty faithful sequel, but it did lack the darkness of the original. A pretty safe and unimaginative film overall.

I'd say it is very similar to the first movie in terms of quality. Personally, the protagonists in this one were a bit bland, but they provide a nice mirror to the Sandersons. I also found the humor a bit more enjoyable in this movie than the first which seemed to rely a lot on virgin jokes. It's a faithful sequel, that will be a fun Halloween movie to pull out for the family, but isn't amazing by any means.

What a fun way to revisit this story! The witches have still got it, and brought us a spooky tale of sisterhood that's both funny and surprisingly heartwarming. From the prologue to the end, it's clearly made with a lot of love for the original film by people who know how to tell a solid story. It may not please everyone, but I really enjoyed the hell out of it.

fine for fans of the first one, but I hope that I can remind myself there is no need to watch the third one when/if it comes out

Decent lega-sequel, even if it lacks the modest daring of the original. Midler, Najimy, and Parker haven't missed a beat.

Hocus Pocus 2" successfully captures the same magic as the original, bringing back the beloved Sanderson sisters and introducing new themes and characters. While it may not be as legendary as the first, it's still a fun and enjoyable film that's sure to enchant audiences young and old.

Attempts to reconcile the fantasy that evil witches once existed in Salem with the grim reality of the Salem Witch Trials, and fails. Neutered, amoral, lacking any of the imagination and wit of the original, sporting obsequious product placement, with inexcusably bad CGI and no fewer than three (3!) tepid renditions of popular songs that fail to replicate the magic of Bette Midler's cover of I Put A Spell On You in the original Hocus Pocus. It's empty and boring.

The first fifteen minutes sets-up a story and paints a fun prequel to the first one -- and then we return to present time and it all goes downhill. The dialogues are boring, there is too much focus on the wrong characters and a lot of jokes are predictable. When the movie actually puts the attention on the witches it works pretty well and the ending is surprisingly emotional but overall it feels like the script introduces interesting ideas and never really follows them.

Maybe I was in the perfect mood for it, but I kinda liked it.
