The distinction between nerd culture (that gets its homage) and nerds, who feel way too comfortable in their victim narrative is very important for this episode to work. Plemons, who made a career out of jumping back and forth between shy and violent is an excellent casting choice. So is Cristin Milioti. Her casting is an essential comment on the Manic Pixie Dream Girl paradox. Fuck you all, you bros who are too weak to face the fact that no one ever did you any harm.

The worst Black Mirror episode I've ever seen. The 2nd half of this felt like the director was challenged to layer as many plot holes as possible in 20 minutes.

A fun way to start the new season. Could've gone deeper on the social commentary, but what was there was nice. A couple of contrived moments held this one back a bit for me.

Comparisons to Robert Coover's THE UNIVERSAL BASEBALL ASSOCIATION... do not bode well for "progress"

Definitely one of my favorite Black Mirror episodes so far. The acting is great and there's so much to think about this film and so many little things to pick apart.

A funny Star Trek mockup but the story itself was pretty lame. Cristin Milioti was funny though.

A loving homage to the original Star Trek series, the problem here is that it spends too long aping Kirk & co. and not enough time exploring the idea of virtual clone prisons which is at the story's core. Not a poor episode by any means - quite entertaining in fact - but it is rather predictable and doesn't make you stop and think as much as a good Black Mirror does.

It's a nice take on familiar sci fi concepts, but heaps on a pointed critique of contemporary gaming culture. The three leads had excellent performances in their dual roles.

incredibly obvious from the start, with almost everything being a gun of Chekov's, so all surprises are removed from the start. a fairly played-out (though true) take on nerd entitlement, with a lot of convenient contrivances to make everything hold together. it's basically a kids' show for adults in denial. production design was nice.

This one is pretty different but just the right sort of new life I think Black Mirror needed, as a few other episodes, while still good, seemed a bit formulaic for the series. Really twisted but thoroughly entertaining.

They reused the concept from the Christmas special, and wrapped it in a Star Trek episode with a feminist twist. The social commentary fell flat for me, but I found the plot enjoyable enough, and the ending steered this episode clear of being a misandrist monstrosity.

A nice opening of the new season, it feels really similar to an older style Twilight Zone or Hitchcock episode. A very strong cast helps.

The best of this batch as far as I'm concerned. It has the soul crushingly bleak premise that you expect from this show but also a welcome colourful exuberance both visually and tonally, the story having a sense of adventure and a great sense of humour. This is not only a fun riff on Star Trek but a much needed satire on the alpha tough guy roles that real-life losers create for themselves.
