Very well-made and detailed exploration of very familiar events, concerned equally with forensic and sociological considerations. The early episodes had a few too many moralistic declarations (by white and black commenters alike) that Simpson had "turned his back on the black community", the insistence on which amounts to a kind of legitimation of the ghetto mentality, but certainly one of the best studies of race, crime and television in America generally, and in Los Angeles in particular.

O.J.: Made in America, starting with the title, tells the story of Americas biggest problem: The inability to fix problems in a sustainable way. Caused by the infinite misunderstanding of the conviction to erase a mistake with another one. And still, while this documentary is a passionate yet unbiased life-lesson it is also a testimony to maybe the biggest strength and duty of movies itself: creating empathy.

I'd like to single out one amazing sequence, in which F. Lee Bailey maintains the lie, effortlessly regurgitating what he well knows is total crap, while Barry Scheck, who still has major PR stock to manage, cannot bring himself to, strenuously equivocating under Edelman's admirably direct questioning. Somewhat understandably, Clark and Darden still get off too easy. Less understandably: no discussion on the merits of Ito's decision to allow the trial to be televised in the first place.

A 7 1/2 hours that doesn't feel that long. A great look at not only why O.J.'s case mattered, but how it mattered within the context of race relations in America, specifically L.A.. Honestly, if they made this into a 15-hour documentary, I would have been like, "sign me up, Pops!"

YOU'RE A BAD MOFO JOHNNIE. The first 2 eps could have been combined for mine. I caught myself thinking 'I'm still watching an OJ biopic right?' as LAPD/black tensions take centre stage. There's a pay off eventually by tying into THAT court case. Watching the genius narrative OJ's legal team paint, turning a cut & dry murder case into an opportunity for vindication for US's black community is surely the highlight. The most amazing part is how many citizens bought into and owned a legal defence.

Hugely impressive in terms of scope and structure. In terms of cinema as an expressive medium rather bland. (Points deduced for the out of nowhere use of Dvorak)

Fascinating & far broader analysis, than 1 might expect, of the era, issues and history that lead to an infamous miscarriage of justice. Only possible complaint: If U R are not fascinated by matters legal, political, historical &/or are not a habitual documentary fan then you might find this series just a little TOO in depth. My GF would rather covered the same material in 3hr rather than 6h. Personally, I was enthralled but it could probably be trimmed for a totally acceptable abridged version

As fun as the give them enough rope, Fuck The police-ness of it was, moral of the story seemed only the USA's Liberal self-made-man myth is incompatible with the USA's institutional racism -no matter how fucking hard one sells out. Slick bit of choir-preachery that only strengthened my long-held pet-theory that VOLCANO 1997 is 'really' about the Watts and Rodney King riots -and the economic genocide/gentrification that followed.

This is the collosus of True Crime. The peak of the documentation of O.J's crime life. Nothing can top this about O.J. Nothing else can be made about him, except maybe an epilogue made like 30 years later by the same guys about him post-parole, but we'll just have to see what it entails. This is not a miniseries, this is a singular 7hr47minute film with 2 intermissions. Fight me.

The biggest success of it in terms of narration and form is that it suspends interviewees' memories and testimonies in order to create almost a thrilling experience of a tragedy. No over voice, no dictates from outside, but only the rise and fall of a mythic hero embodying almost all contradictions of American society (race, class, mass media, politics, world of celebrities). And of course this is a bloody misogynist succeeded in deceiving average citizen. So relieved that he got 33 years.

Despite all the TV-editing limitation imposed, this is the type of documentary that seems obsessed in visiting the past to understand the power of an image. Even if we have to go back to these images over and over and sit back and listen to tons of interviews. Celebrity as the closest we get to eternity.

I love ESPN as much as the next guy but who really though they'd be responsible for one of the best docs on modern, "post racial" race relations. Also, I can't be the only one who thinks the Goldman's are scumbags right?

A truly astonishing documentary. The wide scope of racial politics in Los Angeles (and wider America) is brought to a focus in the incredible depth of investigation into the life and times of one of the most iconic (for so many reasons of various morality) figures of the modern era. Some of the details are truly shocking. Even though I was familiar with some of what was presented, it's still, 20+ years after the fact, almost unbelievable.

An essentially flawless portrait of race, racism, and crime in the US. They probably do the best job they could in putting the audience in the frame of mind to understand the jury and their decisionmaking. It's probably by design that it doesn't frame the narrative with their viewpoint, and that it didn't feel like it was completely unraveled and felt unsatisfying as a result. A masterful work, in any case. All it's really missing is the word of the man himself.

I just want to make a public apology to my wife for ignoring her all day. I was simply mesmerize by O.J.'s charisma today. They are really making wonderful murder documentaries these days. When given the chance they dig deep, show the banality of the legal system and strips the crimes bare. O.J.: Made in America (2016) goes down with The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst (2015) and Making a Murderer (2015) as MUST SEE documentaries!

One of the best documentaries I've seen. Does such a great job of contextualizing OJ's personal story. It provides a lot of detail about the trial, but it's much more than just the story of his trial. And while there was a lot I knew going in, there was still plenty of things blew my mind. The access was great--with people you would not expect to appear. Probably the most interesting characters were Carl Douglas (one of the OJ lawyers) and Ron Shipp (OJ's friend and LAPD officer).

Absolutely, wholeheartedly recommended. It's like 'Making a Murderer' but with cultural and recent historical relevance. There are no lulls, it's pure, dense informative entertainment. Much of that made in America often seems questionable, this documentary is not one of them.

It's interesting. I feel, however, that Edelman was hoping for more than interesting, and there are signs of that. Focusing on the racial divide in the country and how that is the backdrop for the trial is the story that should have been focused on. Don't get me wrong, that is the focus... at times. At other times, the focus is on some silly OJ story, OJ's poor upbringing -- just a lot of extraneous stuff to the real matter at hand.

A strong piece of journalism. I don't think the film would be harmed by making more explicit the ways that white cops sought solidarity over justice in the wake of Rodney King paralleled the way many blacks sought group solidarity over individual justice in the wake of the OJ verdict. I'm also struck by the ways that celebrity and wealth has a way of blinding admirers--rich and poor, white and black--to the harsh realities of the people they idolize.

The first two episodes could've been merged into one, and it would have been nice to see a bit more of in-prison OJ to bookend the piece, but otherwise it's a great all-round look at the case, from the racial problems that preceded it to the aftermath of his acquittal and following years. Has many key players giving their views, although perhaps falls a bit short on the detail of the trial covered in the (equally impressive) dramatised TV series.

Yeah, everything I heard about this is true. Just a masterpiece of documentary film making. It obviously has it's own biases but every documentary and every movie does. Wonder if Cochran would've partaken in this doc had he still been with us. Kind of insufferable to listen to white cops talk about how the Rodney King beating was justified but hey, what're you gonna do. Could Goldman be any fucking sleazier please?

Really good documentary. It gives a lot of context for one helluva weird sociological event. Right from the start it surprised me how interesting story about american footballer can be. I remember hearing about this case on TV when it happened (I was as far from USA as one can be), but all the race-issues background was new to me. Fascinating.

Very interesting en enlightening documentary about the rise and fall of an American celebrity and African-American history of America in the last half of the 20th century, which came together in that famous trail of the century. And also much more, cause how can one summarize almost 7.5 hours movies in a few words? The music gets heavyhanded at times unfortunately.

An epic documentary which spans several decades: the rise and fall of Orenthal James Simpson. It's all very well put together, takes its time and makes you forget about modern times. Apart from that, O.J. is one narcissistic suave motherf-cker, the guy gets away with (almost) everything. There is no doubt he did it and there's also no doubt the jury declared him innocent as retribution for Rodney King et al. Overall a pathetic case of astronomic proportions. May both victims r.i.p.

Superb documentary; cleverly and brilliantly establishes a searing portrait of race relations in America from the 1960s-present, all couched within the bizarre (and almost unbelievable) tale of the rise and fall of Simpson. Manages to give equal weight to national concerns and to the specifics of Simpson, including a fascinating and thorough dissection of his controversial court case. Brilliant stuff.
