I never review anything I haven't fully seen, but "The umbrella academy" is unbearable - I couldn't make it past episode 2. The characters are obnoxious and boring, in no way can you care for them and "connect emotionally". The episodes are unnecessarily prolonged, filled with useless scenes that in no way add to character development. The idea behind the show is pretty interesting and I was looking forward to unraveling the mystery, but watching a snail race is more engaging than the series.

This is unlike any other tv show I've seen before. The acting is phenomenal; the story and characters, unique; even the trope-types draw you in and force to to connect with them emotionally. The cinematography and music are also really nice and fit well with the atmosphere. I love Gerard Way and was a fan of the comic series as a kid, but in a way that makes me more critical. I had very high hopes for this show going in and it's rare that I feel like an adaptation does the original justice.

One of those shows that wants you to take it seriously as it undermines its own concept- way too much about flashy fights and hammering away at the same plotline notes without doing true development or keeping to consistent rules. Just continuity problems peppered throughout.

A great first season, and gets progressively worse with every installment. The fourth season might be some of the worst television I've ever seen, and fumbles an otherwise enjoyable show

The first season was great. Quirky superhero shenanigans. Obviously as Ellen Page slowly decided to chop her tits off and change her name, her character arc suffered. Later seasons slumped more than a little.

Season 1 was really fun and intriguing, but had the bad luck of releasing at the peak of superhero fatigue in media, competing with The Boys which has the answer to such fatigue. The subsequent seasons were carried by the actors, not so much by the writing or the plot. It's really fun to watch, don't get me wrong, but it feels like they repeat the same twists ten times over, while adding characters to the main cast which aren't as good as the originals. I liked it, but I'm glad it ended.

(TV) Stylish, witty and equal parts empathy and sharp-tongued sass. Umbrella Academy continues to get better and better. At this point the gulf in quality between this and much more talked about shows like Stranger Things is pretty ridiculous (watching them side-by-side in 2022 did the latter no favours) - somehow flying under the radar meant they got to keep doing quirky, edgy and insane plotlines ala the graphic novels. Could have run for a long time but hope for a good final outing in 2023.

Across the first two seasons this grew on me quite nicely with a good cross section of characters and a creative style. The third season looked great but was a touch disappointing when compared to the previous two. The addition of new characters probably didn't work out but I'm still keen to watch a 4th season if it gets renewed.

Season 1: A little on the grim side, occasionally heavy on melodrama & antiheroes, sometimes needlessly graphic with violence, but mostly enjoyable and well written.

Unique group of superheroes, with the youngest (#5) and Elliot Page's characters being the most interesting, although there's a lot of variety in the characters here and a pretty interesting idea overall.

S1: Those familiar with genre fare will see most "twists" coming but the story's executed well. (It's only if a story's not good that one becomes annoyed with conventions.) It doesn't feel like a total retread thanks to the freshness that the antagonists bring. My biggest nitpick is that some character arcs are erratically paced but that's easy to forgive because the overall story development is so solid. S2: the reduced budget is often obvious, and the story's flatter and much sloppier.

Every Charakter on this show is so bland and ignorant. They overlook pretty much everything. Oh and later in its just complete moralism that spells out everything for u. Annoying.

Umbrella Academy is definitely the type of show that hinges on it's connection to its creator and its inspirations. I enjoyed it, despite it being a little cliched and predictable throughout, but if you also enjoy edgy teenage X-Men and a killer soundtrack then you should probably give it a shot.

Very cool. One or two things should've happened that didn't, ie. with Allison and with the ending, but I guess they wanted to leave it open for season 2, although in that case they should've changed those bits. Some character decisions don't make sense but overall was really good.

Visually rich and interesting (although Tom Hopper's padded muscle suit is distractingly awful) but the various story arcs are a little hit and miss. UA was still intriguing enough to ensure I wanted to see how it ended and ultimately it was surprisingly satisfying in that respect.

'The Umbrella Academy' revels in its weirdness, and yet seems to much more about the character relationships than their superhero antics. Their use of time travel is interesting without being convoluted and I can't wait for the next season to come out.

There is a lot to like about this series from its style to the unique characters. It has a tendency to go into what feels like music video segments which can feel a little jarring but does have its charm. It did feel like the ending left a lot to be desired.

It's like someone looked at imdb's top 250 and thought they'd shoehorn it all into one show. There's so much that doesn't make sense, I kept hearing myself ask, "Who wrote this shit?" And after yet another ‘twist' is predicted two episodes before, I started asking, "Did I write this shit?" The music choices: they were aiming for Tarantinoesque but fell short at Hollyoaks. And then there's the usual risk-taking boys, leading and outnumbering the sensible girls. In 2019!

Good mystery, decent use of the big sci-fi moves with a relatively low budget, but this is offset by some shockingly placed, terrible, and overly indulged 'High school musical' style dance sequences, repetitive character building, some frustrating (and impact reversing) time line jumbling, and continual mystery bait dangling. Well acted and shot. There is a LIBERAL use of material taken from other movies, too many to name, too similar to be referenced, but 'No Country's' bolt gun for one

I really didn't rate this as much as most. It's alright and one of those shows where you're thinking, "Oh fine, how does it finish?" But I was about three steps ahead of most of the characters and it didn't feel overly special. Music and Cinematography are pretty good though.

The few interesting ideas in S01 of The Umbrella Academy get bogged down by poor pacing, flawed characters that mumble too much, dark lighting (masquerading as a dark tone) and a generic plot. Too much angst mixed in with intermittent humour, using well-known songs as a crutch for the action & plot. (59/100) S02 marks a drastic improvement, embracing the camp & incorporating brighter lighting, making the show watchable & I dare say enjoyable. (64/100) S03, the characters & dialogue are painful.
