I don't feel like I really got this movie. Nothing happened for the first hour or so and then something happened and it was never really resolved. Beautiful shots and good acting, but there was nothing here.

This film does have some slow spots but there are also several interesting moments. The four leads do a good job in this film. The script is not perfect but it does have some really good moments. Overall I would recommend this film.

A great cast in a meandering film that never quite hits its mark. I am not sure if its the fault of the film or the viewers, but people seem to have missed the film's comments on European nationalism and the fear of the "other" (in this case, the refugee). The 3rd act takes a narrative turn that is both unexpected and not very good.

strange, beacuse it's well-acted and i guess well-shot, but it's just not good. incredibly dull, so much so i couldn't even make it through to the end of the movie.

Like a throwback to the great Italian comedies of the 60s - sunny vistas, sadness and seduction, beautiful people with beautiful problems in need of an emotional rescue. This type of film always has the potential to come across as dull and indulgent, but A Bigger Splash - filled as it is with compositions that toe the line between gorgeous and threatening, and some unbelievably perfect music cues - is so consistently lively and unpredictable that I doubt that thought could ever cross your mind.

Swinton is perfect as a female David Bowie-esque rockstar that is recovering from speech surgery. Schoenaerts and Johnson both are good and very sexy. But they are all overshadowed by Ralph Fiennes, who seems to having the most fun he ever had in a movie. Too bad the movie lingers on too much, especially after the climax of the movie. It also suffers a bit from it all being too movie perfect, you know you're watching unbelievable attractive people in an amazingly beautiful setting.

To pursue a life of obscenity and impulse is to leave open the window for barbaric brutality. The beautiful Italian landscapes and and unbound sexuality serve as perfect disarming devices to allow a pretty nasty story of jealousy seem rather innocuous for most of its runtime. A twisted examination of celebrity from Guadagnino- if at times a little disjointed and undercooked.

I just couldn't stand these people, so even though the movie is not that bad I just hated it.

quite the drastic shift in tone and from that moment on it gets lost somewhere inbetween and ends pretty half-assed. fiennes is stealing almost every scene (which comes with the role, but he also nails it), swinton is sorta limited to her situation, everyone else is more or less there. not bad, but not that memorable either.

One of those well-acted, low-key European thrillers that tries its best to downplay its genre conventions. The problem is, I really like genre conventions, so that's never been a sell for me. Great cast, though. Wonder if I would've been so gung-ho to see it if somebody told me Tilda Swinton doesn't speak.

The themes of jealousy, sex and desire are well established throughout the film, albeit too universal to be tied to the likes of this thoroughly unlikable gang. Not to mention the film drones on for far too long past its unintentionally funny climax (dat shot though). A shame, since all four actors act the shit out of their roles.

Outstanding performances from the main cast, especially Ralph Fiennes, but it is hard to find any empathy with such "obscene" people but then that is the point.

Fiennes's character was so annoying that at one point, I found myself hoping he'd die in a freak pool accident. Turns out that also wasn't what the movie needed.

So, Pantelleria is the Eden and Harry and his daughter are the serpent. First world problems while in the background third-world people fight to join the Garden, despised. Swinton and Fiennes steal the show when on camera together, but the director prefered to make cool dance scenes than develop the characters. We stay on a very superficial level, they end "rock&roll stars" tropes like they started, i just didn't care. Sponsored by Pantelleria's tourist boards.

“A Bigger Splash” might be intended as a cautionary tale about the perils of being white, beautiful and privileged—but it’ll probably register more as a dazzling escape." - Christy Lemire, RogerEbert.com Biggest criticism is the in-your-face and not-subtle-at-all alludes through the juxtaposition of 'refugees' and the rich white people. It was a pointless, one-sided naive attempt at social critique, the worst example of politics seeping into film. Fiennes and Swinton were sublime though

Kafasi karisik bir yonetmenlik. Filmin cesitli yerlerinden az 5 ayri tarz muzik kullanilmasi filmin genelinin surekliligini bozuyor. Yer yer karakterlerin motivasyonunu anlamak imkansiz. Tilda Swinton ve Ralph Fiennes muhtesem oynamislar Dakota Johnson her zamanki gibi vasat, ama film bir sekilde kendini izlettiriyor. Yaklasik 20 dakika daha kisa olabilirmis.

I quite enjoyed the first part of hedonism, booze and partying in Mediterranean surroundings, and especially Ralph Fiennes' acting. His character was like a sex, drugs and rock'n'roll version of the one he played in Grand Budapest Hotel. The film changes completely when the story takes a dramatic turn and the end result feels quite disjointed. But I did enjoy the direction and will probably check out Guadagnino's other work based on this.

Great camera work (especially when it's representing a character's gaze). Great acting. But it takes an unfortunate plot twist and never really recovers from it.

. A Bigger Splash, the title borrowed from a 1967 David Hockney painting, is a spellbinding erotic dance set on the gorgeous Mediterranean island of Pantelleria. From the best villas, you can even see Tunisia. Everything in this movie is so ripe and voluptuous that watching it doesn't seem enough, you want to take a bite out of it.

A distinctly European feel and the narrative completely caters to that, so this won't be for everyone. The cast is terrific though, (Ralph Fiennes in particular has a role like none other his had before or at least I remember him having), and makes this worth watching. The narrative on its own is a little overdrawn and kind of loses direction.

The best acted, best written and best directed movie that I haven't understand. Or is it that simple? Is this movie simply that blunt analogy of rich idiots and poor refugees? This old narrative of the young & dangerous and old & wise? Can please someone answer me all these questiuons so I can go back to enjoying Swinton's aura, Fiennes' moves, Schoenaerts' steadyness and (yes, even!) Johnson's bitchyness. Who work not only alone but multiply each others impact in this movie scope.

afişleri kadar çekici olmayı başaramayan filmler vol. 454364364. şaka bir yana fiennes ve swinton gibi iki ismin başı çektiği kadro, johnson'ın normalde yeteneksizliğine rağmen karakterleri güçlü biçimde yansıtıyor. böylesine karakterlerin yaşadığı yoktan gerilim aslında insan doğasına dair de bazı şeyler söyler gibi oluyor fakat film oyuncu kadrosuyla beraber anlam kazanabilen iyi bir raf düzeni, kitaplık dizimi gibi duruyor yalnızca. -güncelleme gerek.

With this cast, I really wanted to like this. But it turns out this movie didn't really have much to say. A gregarious aging rock star pursues a lost love. But she is content with her new relationship. The minor power struggle between the men ends in an accidental tragedy. Dakota Johnson's role seemed to be a diversion, but I gave extra points for her nude scene. Haphazard writing & an unfocused presentation. It feels like the writer & director kind of failed with this one.

The pursuit of unpredictability will almost always come across as a series of successes and failures, and this is no exception. The ending must, unfortunately, be relegated to the latter category. I couldn't believe they didn't present Tilda's concert performance they kept leading up to. We had to settle for Fiennes impromptu dance to the Stones' "Emotional Rescue".

Guadagnino moves on from "I Am Love" in a direction which is more narrative and less stylistic. The characters are all interesting although I felt that Schoenaerts was the only actor who really fitted his part well. Tilda Swinton couldn't do much with a difficult role. The pacing is handled well, with flashbacks providing a refreshing break from a story which has fun moments but also far too many ridiculous or improbable turns. An entertaining watch but too much of a mish-mash to have an impact.

Ralph Fiennes is a riot but the drama is too slow and the satirical elements too blunt.
