The first one was an inexplicable gem of a movie that I had no business liking. Now, a mere three years later, something is missing, and it's definitely not a bunch of rock hard abs, I'll tell you that. This time around, the movie has degraded into what I thought it would have been the first time around: a sorry excuse to gather together a bunch of hunksicles in one place and have them strut around with very little clothing on.

It's paper thin plot is an excuse for music dancing and the most charming dry humping of faces you've ever seen. It's undeniable the vibe of the film is fun and sort of dreamy. This may be the best role I have ever seen Pinkett Smith in.

My girlfriend paused the film to go to the toilet. I checked the remaining time left and let out a reluctant groan to see there was another 37 minutes remaining...

One of the best movies of the year so far. The themes are clear but not blatant. The subject of the film is "a woman's need to be cherished and what men can do about it." It's completely good-intentioned, hilarious, well-shot fun. Honestly, with the themes being as they are, it's a shame more dudes won't see the movie, since it's kind of for them as well. But it's easy to understand, considering it comes in the form of a male stripper movie. I'm unashamed to say I thought it was quite great.

Remember how we had drama the last time around? Well, now have bros being supportive of each other while also having a great time. You'll also have a great time because simply by watching the movie, you'll immediately enter that bro circle as well.

Jada Pinkett Smith is literally the only reason to watch this movie, because she killed it as per usual. It has more dancing and whatnot than the first one, but everything somehow feels much more vanilla. I feel like they could have just released the performances on Youtube without all the aimless/pointless dialogue in between and I would have been more intrigued... I also probably would have been less turned off... :(

Is this a perfect movie? I can't think of anything I'd change. There was a scene I thought was tedious in the moment, but ended up making complete sense in the end so I enjoyed it retroactively. Even the ending was open to bullshit, but just ended at the perfect time. Every joke worked. Manganiello was a triumph (give him a Best Supporting Actor award now) & Pinkett Smith was great. Just a great cast all around. Even has a more in depth message regarding relationships than it will get credit for

It's a warm, thoughtful script that's armoured in protective layers of bland plotting, safe in the shadow of its predecessor on its was to mainstream cinema. MMXXL envisions a world in which the men, care. Simply that. The dudes are kind, respectful, and love each other--straight guys conducting friendships & relationships with positivity. It's no romp, but a refreshing alternative... Sexual fantasy with lots of heart.

Tatum's beefed up but conversely the plot has thinned out (well, non-existent really). The post-financial crisis theme of the first has been replaced by pretty much one long fantasy sequence. The final duo routine might be construed as a kind of nod to, and updating of, the shoeshine dance in THE BAND WAGON, except that Stephen Boss really has nothing else to do in the film, so isn't really a character (but I guess he isn't really an actor either). Definitely has some amusing moments. NIN.

Mike (Channing Tatum) returns to the stripper fold for "one last ride", going up the coast from Miami to Myrtle Beach to take part in a stripper convention. There's not much more in terms of plot, but the main attractions are the performances (which are extremely impressive) and the portrait of male camaraderie, which is unusually honest and sympathetic. As with the first film, men may balk at it, but it's got as much to offer them as it does the ladies. Also, Soderbergh totally directed this.

Sets it up as a fun road movie then we enter the flaccid middle and the movie never recovers. The burlesque house sequence is Magic Mike's French plantation sequence. Finale dance would've been hilarious with large women (they used them for every other scene!)

A movie about male strippers - sorry, "entertainers" - without a hint of cynicism or negativity. Kind males, kind females, funny lines, great choreography, good performances, and surprising smarts elevate it above the original. Is it necessary? No, but I'm glad we got it.

It's dumb, it's inconsequential and it drags in parts, but I had a lot of fun. The set pieces deliver and the male bonding is overwrought but endearing. I am such a sucker for movies that wear their heart on their sleeve and where the plot plays fifth fiddle to having a good time. Biggest downside was Amber Heard which left a bad taste in my mouth when ever she was on screen. Also, I can't help but wonder how this movie would've played if the genders were reversed.

The cast is still charming but the loss of Soderbergh weights on it; reducing the number of dance sequences and focusing on a simple road trip plot doesn't help matters.

My experience wasn't magical but I did think this movie had some good dance routines. I'm a fan of dance competitions and this one didn't disappoint. What did disappoint is the thong-thin plot of a road-trip to a stripping competition. The several scenes of bad acting didn't help either. Still, this will be a hit among other people just for the sex appeal. You'll see some of the raunchiest dry-humping and whipped cream spraying debauchery you can handle...

This, ladies and gentleman (and I really try to avoid this label because its for the lazy and uninterested experts to use this expression), is a masterpiece! It's the one movie Amy Schumer, Nine Inch Nails and Deleuze (look him up, stupid) can agree on. Its physical, emotional & spiritual. Its makes the world a better place, strengthens women, humbles men. Its hilarious and very well cast (stripping NFL-players & Andie MacDowell, kiddies!). Tatum is smart and can move! Just open your eyes!

a more infectious, all-inclusive, everything-positive sugar rush than any pop song i've heard this decade (sry carly rae), XXL also demonstrates how subversive it remains for a mainstream film (hell, any film) to be truly progressive - and thankfully without a soapbox in sight. not just way more fun than the first one (and completely different, btw) but probably better than every single thing soderbergh or mcconaughey have ever been involved with, which is more than unlikely; it's miraculous.

This is a wonderfully lifelike, likable and uplifting little sequel, with smart dialogue and that special high you get when indulging in frank sexual conversation. Problem is, all of this ends just before the finale, because aside from coupling Tatum with his love interest, the 20 min. stage show has all the drama of an investor presentation.

Magic Mike XXL brings what the first didn't but lacks what the first did. The plot is messy and can be hard to follow at times. However, this doesn't stop Magic Mike XXL from being extremely enjoyable with likeable characters, a good soundtrack, good routines and very funny moments. Magic Mike XXL is more than just eye candy - it surprisingly explores areas that this type of film wouldn't traditionally explore.

Wish I could bust a move like these guys. Then again I don't. Don't really know what to say here. Not the right demographic for a Magic Mike film. But for a male stripper movie, I did enjoy it a lot more then I thought I would. They made it a lot more hetrosexual then it really was.

No Soderbergh? No problem. Any chance to hear "Pony" boom in a theater is one worth taking, but beyond that, holy shit, go fucking see this movie. Second best road movie of 2015 so far. (Hopefully another one doesn't come out that's better because I hate coming back to edit myself.)

Everything everyone expected the first movie to be, which is both a plus and a minus. Borders on non-stop stripping or otherwise partying, and becomes completely ridiculous with all drama that anchored the first being thrown out the window. Despite some great cameos and Channing Tatum doing what he does best, Big Dick Ritchie completely steals the show.

Soooo conflicted! Tatum is Tatum (yummi) and boy can he dance!! Thumps up for that. Storyline: OK... For that I would give it a 3 = recommendable. So many things makes it just another sexy/funny/sweet chick-flick, but there's a but! A huge but: The stripping! Too much - nothing else to say, just too much. When you almost get the feeling of pornography it kinda crosses the line. *Bad

What Magic Mike XXL ultimately offers is shallow escapism--intended to be as sexy and as tawdry as its pretty-boy leads. While no one shows every bit of their bits here, the result feels pretty close to pornography nonetheless, both physically and emotionally. And it carries with it the same dangers that porn does: It primes its audience for an unrealistic fantasy. It elevates sex and bodily satisfaction over love. (pluggedin.com)

Knows exactly what it is: an adult version of a Step Up movie with gratuitous amounts of pelvic thrusts and dollar bills filling the screen. Less of a character study than the first film, being more about providing shallow entertainment than focusing on several main characters, but that's okay. Very well shot and choreographed. Tatum is charming and gives a great physical performance, but it is the ladies who steal the show. Andie MacDowell, Jada Pinkett Smith and Elizabeth Banks are MVPs.
