Sentimental score. Honestly this doesn't quite work as a movie but as a uniquely earned epilogue to a treasured series it's some beautiful. Can't afford the natural pace that made it shine in episodic format & inevitably feels a bit contrived. That said it works hard to avoid the gravest pitfalls of these type reunions & focuses on giving a fleeting & sentimental yet not inappropriate coda to the story. Milch's unique poetry is still there although not at its height (almost impossible standard).

While the years have taken a little of the bite, the bark is still exactly on point, and its a fitting follow up and feels good to be back in this world.

It's been a good while since I've seen the show, so even though I recognized many from the returning ensemble, I was able to remember very few plot points from season 3. Nevertheless, I had a good time in the company of Olyphant, McShane and Co. and would welcome another outing.

A strong reunion of and farewell to these beloved characters and the world they inhabit. Very emotionally resonant.

Do they just not know how to end a story or...?! Also, this was barely an episode, what a waste.

Feels like fan-fiction, a rather simplistic plot along with literally every character is artificially crammed in 1.5h with clunky exposition and just too much of a reunion-vibe. And this comes from a huge Deadwood fan.. ;(

More an extended episode than a film, it's still a treat seeing these characters together again.

It could have been worse. It's funny the movie takes place 10 years later, the actors are 15 years older in reality but the makeup makes everyone look 25 years older ;o The whole 2 hours feels more like a Christmas special or a typical recap filler episode instead of a proper final film. The dialogues are also a bit strange compared to the series. Al's final act should have been to kill Hearst for a more or less happy ending and revenge...but no...so we still have an open end, pointless movie!

The continuous flashbacks hinder the pacing, but I can't fault them too much for trying to have people remember what happened in the show a decade ago.Not the season we deserved but a fitting ending to the show and characters who might have only stalled the incessant march of progress and earned some respite.

Deadwood: Idiot Plot is an obnoxious turd that soured the entire series for me. Trixie reveals she is alive, so Jen was murdered for nothing. Several people in Hearst's way are just presented on a silver platter to be murdered by his men. Seriously, they just put a key witness right in front of his hired guns, it is some of the worst and laziest writing i've ever seen. The rest is some soppy Hallmark nonsense. Do they really expect me to feel for serial killer Al dying at the end? Good riddance.

Beautiful conclusion of the show that recaptures the ambiance almost seamlessly, some 13 years later.

This is a fitting wrap up to the TV series. The cast are all so good in their roles, especially Ian McShane. The script is well done it honors the spirit of the series. This is highly recommend for anyone that has watched the show.

The frontier spirit did, as we now know in hindsight, inevitably die, consumed by the mega-institutions of modernity, and with it the rugged, independent nature at the heart of the American dream disappeared with a whimper. Here in Deadwood we see the last gasps of breath, and even they are beautiful to behold...

What was that. Bares essentially no resemblance to anything Deadwood, the characters have all changed (Al is now a softie, Seth a grinning idiot, Joanie and drugged out back to whoring, Hearst apparently now wants the approval of people and is in politics, Dan is a well dressed statue, Alma keeps smiling??). The Shakesperean writing has disappeared to say the least. Nothing happens, and the whole thing feels like a weird fan fiction dream.

For my annual dig through the modern westerns that's popped up the last year, this TV-film was EASILY the best of the bunch. Almost all other attempts failed! This at least felt like the old west. And even if I never got around to watching the Deadwood series, the spin-off movie 15 years later was good. I would have probable loved it even more if I was already acquainted with the characters. At least I made the right decision to save this for last so I don't lose all hope in the wild west genre.

More or less passes the time, but seems like a product designed to fill a gap in the market more than anything else: not much of a story and tends to veer towards schmaltz.

Satisfying conclusion to the 'Deadwood' story. A pleasure to be reacquainted with old friends and foes. Some loose ends tied up but nothing wrapped up too neatly.

Glad this happened, comes across as a kind of bow to tie up the series that was cut short. It does a fair job of representing the characters as they were, yes a lot happens and there's some fan service about, but that's what this had to do. Pleased to find that Wu learned absolutely no english in the 13 years between drinks.

never having seen the original series, i found this wood hood to be neither dead nor fully alive. the main problem for me was the dialogue, which another user brilliantly and accurately described as profane and shakespearean, that seemed so out of place.

Deadwood kasabasında geçen olaylar. Diziyi sinema filmi ile bitirmek istemişler. İlk 20 dakika tanışma faslı olurken, azgın karakterlerin en uslusu Charlie Utter'in öldürülmesiyle öykü başlıyor. Western'in damarlarınıza işleyen bir son film. Ağır tempo bir yerden sonra bayıyor. Shekaspeare tiradları hoş olsa da kovboy özgünlüğünü kaçırıyor. Bol çatışma sahneleri filmin ortasında olması gözleri yoruyor. Sonu da yavan. Hak hukuk adalet

A great epitaph to an even better show. It is a lot of fun to see these characters back on the screen again, even if this story should have had its due years ago and with more time to wind down.

Really solid, overall. It didn't feel exactly like the show, but it was as close as it was ever going to be. It helps that almost all the main actors returned & that they all seemed to settle back into their old characters very easily. It wrapped up some of the major plot points from season 3 & fairly well considering they only had 2 hours in which to do so. I loved listening to Milch's incredible dialogue again. I just feel grateful we got to see this town & its inhabitants one last time.

And like that Timothy Olyphant is cool again and Ian McShane still got it. Nowhere near the best episodes though.
