A burglar pretends to be a bodygaurd who pretends to be a teacher so he can rob kids seeking protection and guidance - but the kids end up being cool so he gives their stuff back. At this point Owen Wilson could set out to poison puppies and they'd try to make you feel bad for him.

Very weak comedy, the main problems are the 3 kids who have no charisma between them and Owen Wilson's phoned-in performance. After Dupree, another film where he plays essentially a child (a role he is not particularly good at). The script is completely lacking in originality and feels like it was pieced together from a dozen other high school movies.

So Luke Wilson's brother gets a pass but everytime I try and beat up a kid I get the long, hard, consequences of breaking the law.

For the first 30 minutes I waited for it to start being funny. The rest of the time I waited for it to end.

Not as bad as people say it is, and it has some funny bits. However, most of the time I waited for it to end.

It has not the pepper that was seasoning Superbad. But even so, a good entertainment.

If this film embraced being completely neurotic and edgy, I could see it working. It almost wants to go into the realm of good films, but doesn't have the courage to make that step. As it is, this film is absolute shit.

I know it's hard to believe, but watching Owen Wilson get punched in the face does not classify as entertainment.

Solid Wilson comedy. Sometimes unfairly criticised, it does have some very good moments.

Without much in the way of credibility or little in the way of inspired humor for Wilson to work with, "Drillbit Taylor" produced by Judd Apatow and co-written by Seth Rogen sort of flounders in the mundane realm of comedy.

It has a few solid laughs (most of which are provided by Danny McBride), but much of the film is dry. The kids aren't particularly likeable, and the story isn't particularly good. Like I said though, it's written by Rogen and features McBride, so there is some good comedy here, just not enough. The movie isn't a total disaster, but it's fairly cookie-cutter and marks Apatow Co.'s first real miss.

There's a scene where the bully and one of the main characters have a rap battle. The movie tries to pass this off as funny.

Skip this one. There are a few funny moments in this film but definitely not enough to recommend it. The ending is weak and predictable. Owen Wilson has done better work in other films.

Really felt like they were trying to ride the coattails of the recently popular Superbad and make a high-school comedy as racy as they could and still give it a PG-13 rating. You might get a few laughs, but it's pretty drab.

Owen Wilson finally found his perfect role: an over-grown pre-pubescent teenage boy. The most (only) believable performance of his career.

I really hated Owen Wilson's character in this movie, but after all this was okay. If you don't have anything better you might give this a chance. Don't expect anything and maybe the movie will surprise you.

I'll admit upfront a weakness for high school movies, thus, I may be overrating this a bit. It's nowhere near as clever or funny as Superbad (which sharing a producer and screenwriter it naturally draws comparison to), but my inner nerd can never truly dislike a movie that features the high school geeks triumphing over the bullies.

Is that the Josh kid From Drake and Josh? When did he turn into a bully? Anyway, the bullies in this movie were absolutely rediculous. I hadn't seen a bully that bad since Big Bully.

It seems to me that people hate on this film because they are incapable of making a judgment for themselves. The film references are a lot of fun, in particular the nod to 'Blade Runner'. The brutality of the violence is unexpected but welcome (films of this genre often don't follow through with this), which has a lot do with Alex Frosts' unhinged performance as Filkins. The parody of teachers and teaching is closer to the truth than many would like to admit.

Comes frustratingly close to working, with Wilson’s droll and laid back persona well-suited to his role, and a terrific trio of young actors at the forefront (with neurotic Dorfman an absolute scream). Unfortunately the film never finds a focus or rhythm, struggling to tie Drillbit’s search for self-worth to the struggles of his charges, leaving the mid-section seeming to break off into two separate movies! Well staged comic gags make this worthwhile (the montages are particularly well done).
