Good Christ, this is like the opposite of everything I want in a movie- Low stakes dramedy, crap music, gay stereotypes, bland visuals, children, long online conversations read out in voice-over- all it's missing is a rape scene and one of those slow, maudlin covers of an 80ies pop song and you'd have bullshit bingo!

Mildly interesting premise, solid performances, and a slightly atypical rhythm for this sort of film. It's not terribly profound, but for what it is Juliet Naked does its job very well. Loved the chemistry of Hawke and Byrne.

There's a lot to like about this film. The script is certainly elevated by 3 fantastic actors. I also like that we are never to feel sympathetic for O'Dowd, and how Byrne learns to make her own choices. However, it feels disjointed. Chris O'Dowd seems to disappear from the film.

The script is not perfect but there are several good moments in this movie. The cast does a nice job with the material. Overall I would recommend this film.

Light and fun but unrealistic and not that interesting. Wastes its whole cast.

A sweet little romantic comedy with good lead performances and a nice – albeit a bit convenient – hook. It's interesting to see Chris O'Dowd play an unlikable fool for once, instead of a likable one, but I think that his character could've had more depth if he was allowed to be more than just an obsessed asshole. There's quite a few different themes running through this movie, and although none of them are mind-blowing revelations, they do give the movie its meat.

It's cute enough if a little mean spirited tbh. Honestly it would be pretty horseshit if I waited 20 years for a new album from an artist and it was a bunch of bullshit about having a garden. So I gotta say solidarity with obsessive nerds like O'dowd's character.

Funny film about a strange romance. Duncan might have been one of the most obnoxious film characters I've ever come across.

Rose Byrne was phenomenal in Goddess of 1967 and Spy but it's nice to see her play something a bit straightforward which she also does very well. Ethan Hawke is also very good here. But there's something a bit queasy and disingenuous about this thing. Might work better with the space a book allows but as a movie it's pretty contrived.

The synopsis is more interesting that what we end up with. Image. Your deadbeat and cheating BF is crazy about an obscure rock musician that has retired years ago. You accidentally bump into said musician and to the chagrin of your BF you fall in love with them. Despite not being a particular fan of rock. Sounds good? Fear not. The movie makes the whole affair very mundane. It’s not terrible still. It’s just banal.

Enter keywords: Sundance, rom-com, Nick Hornby and you get Juliet, Naked. Aging hipsters finding love and all those things. It's like a comfort food - same old thing, but gives a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. Re-watched it, because it was sitting in hard drive, and I was in a mood for something completely harmless.

A bit of an odd, harmless film but I was charmed by its mature script and another great performance by Hawke (who also contributes a pretty killer set of vocal performances). The bad: The ending was unforgivably abrupt - My entire theatre scoffed in unison at the lack of closure. Also, there is a totally unfunny credits scene that sort of undermines the whole thing. Falls short of being a classic but will be a nice, subversive gem of 2018.

Likeable characters, solid acting, and clever humor. I really enjoyed it, but the story is missing something that I can't quite place. In any case, if you enjoy romantic comedies this is well worth a shot- all three main stars are great in their roles, and Ethan Hawke especially shines.

This adaptation of Nick Hornby's book shifts the perspective from Hornby's typical middle-aged music obsessed man to the woman who has to put up with him. Byrne finds that she has essentially sublimated all her own desires to O'Dowd's and is left not knowing who she is when he walks out on her. Hawke is far from perfect ... an older man with multiple ex-wives and children who don't know him ... but he is interested in who she actually is.

Not in the same league as High Fidelity, the other Nick Hornby adaptation about similar themes, but neither is the book. Hawke is good as the washed out musician and there are some nice scenes, but the overall style was quite unfocused - like they couldn't decide if it was supposed to be a proper comedy or a drama.
