Not executed all that well but I didn't turn it off, which warrants some credit cause I was pretty exhausted. Became increasingly paranoiac as I realized the basis for the story was an exaggerated retelling of nearly every one of my family reunion dinner table sits.

An extremely narrow scoped movie, you could call it sci-fi, or horror, or mystery, but the circumstances here are so nondescript as to leave everything up to the viewer's imagination. For what it's worth, I don't think aspirations were very high, so the makers probably achieved everything they wanted, or could afford. I wasn't bored, but I wasn't particularly thrilled about watching a couple dozen people stand in place bickering against a black background for an hour and a half either.

What a waste of an intriguing set-up. The social commentary is shallow and predictable. The script is tedious and repetitive; you could even say it goes around... in circles. That joke right there was more inspired than the execution of this film. (2/5)

Too many characters, too repetitious. The script was inspired by the song 99 bottles of beer on the wall. Ninety-nine people are in a circle, 99 people are there, pick one when the circle goes round, 98 people are in a circle. Show a dark insight into the human psyche, remove a person from the large and undeveloped cast of characters, rinse, wash, and repeat.

Reminded me a lot of "Exam" entertaining premise, if not fully capitalised on.

Cheap gimmicky premise with amusingly poor writing and some hilarious attempts by the actors to deliver it with any amount of seriousness. But mostly boring.

Circle is a refreshing change from the action-laden or gore-filled offerings that make up a large portion of the genre. While the film provides no context for plot, it provides plenty of opportunities for you to root for (or more accurately against) its many characters. For a film so dialogue heavy, it's a surprise that the film works (and it does) given that the cast is nothing special, and the credit lies mainly with the writer-director duo. The ending is satisfying, answering some mysteries.

You can pretty well tell what notes the movie is going to hit just by watching the trailer and looking at the characters. They're gonna play the race card, they're gonna play the gay card, they're gonna play the age card, all for a few healthy doses of micro-social-commentary. The characters exist to represent various social statuses more than anything, and just about every person who speaks becomes an asshole almost immediately.

Starts out interesting, but kinda becomes boring as it goes on. Oh look, the intolerant person dies, wow, who would have guessed? The ending has a chance at saving the film, but fails, twice. What are the writers/directors trying to say? It doesn't feel like there's any message to the film -- and I don't even mean that it's pointless, that's the problem. I would have accepted pointlessness.

Two baked guys on a couch: 'Imagine a reality TV show where people have to kill each other!', 'Dude!', 'and they would have to vote to decide who to kill like in survivor!', 'Duuude! And Aliens!!', 'Duuuuuude! Let's make a movie! We have everything we need.' This movie is not a political commentary. But it's depicting a worldview that calls for a political commentary. If your view is that humanity is garbage, then it tells me more about you than about humanity.

Pretty heavy handed with the social commentary and not the best executed film in the world. However, I was pretty focused on it the whole way through, so I guess it got the drama part of it right.

I will give this film a little credit for being quite fun, and knowing that though its premise is gimmicky, that it can be done right. However, you can't give it much past that. It's characters are straight archetypes, it looks like its shot completely in a black canvas, and the acting ranges from fine to atrocious. Also, the ending is terrible.

While it might be the very goal of the movie, the ending makes everything seem pointless. This ends up being a possibly accurate representation of what people would do in such a situation, and... well, it's not pretty for the most part. It's interesting to see the psychology of it all and the mind games, and it's interesting (if chilling) to realize the choices you, as a viewer, make in your own head... but it's still rather depressing in the end.

Sometimes classic movies can come from low budgets, a single set and a mystery plot. Cube comes to mind, Saw, even The Killing Room. In all these you have characters in a tight spot having to figure out a situation and gradually coming to terms with losing their humanity or possibly their life. This means a lot of talking, and requires knowledge of psychology and well-written characters. These humans seem to have been written by aliens, and somehow the loud assholes get to live for way too long.

interesting low budget sci fi that takes a simple concept and has a lot of fun with it. the problem lies in the necessity to keep our interest over the running time so some of the character motivations are forced and unrealistic not to mention stupid. However the nature of the plot means it keeps moving on to the next 'round' so we don't have to dwell on what just didn't work. Sadly while there is a decent twist at the end, the overall ending is very weak and I had two much better ones in mind.

Nice idea not fully exploited that doesn't get too boring. Far too stereotypical, sometimes the movie uses very obvious characters like trying to include some socio-political message but those are very little and not specially clever moments and as a complete work it doesn't have that deepness. If you want something like that, with better characters and sort of a "who's next" element... I'll suggest "12 Angry Men".

So, you bring up a point about someone, you die, and at that minute that discussion is done? Really? That's not how things resolve right. An interesting concept, and a mediocre delivery on that concept. Might be a good watch in quaranteen days..

What to know what society thinks about itself? This is definitely a mirror of all the prejudice views of EVERYONE! Age, Race, Sexuality, Religion, Social class, Morals, and Perversions. It's all in there to be punished. Also a reflection of history, it highlights that only the most cunning and ruthless will prevail and conquer for the future lines of generations--for THIS circle. But for other circles, the future (this film-story tells) can be different. It all depends...on who's in your circle.

The movie explores the very best and worst of humanity and in the end shows us betrayal, corruption, evil and doesn't give us any solace. This one is not for the feint hearted. This movie is for those who dare to look into a dark mirror and explore the monsters within themselves. If you choose to watch this, tread carefully, be prepared that you will *not* have a pleasant time, but the journey might be worth it. If you dare to walk through it.

The idea looked promising, I was hoping it would be like Cube. Unfortunately, there was little development. The trailer gives away the first two minutes, and from then on, it's the same thing for the whole movie. Underwhelming, although *POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD* I liked the ending.

Waited for the gay person to show up for the whole damn hour in the movie because we have seen each typical member of American society in the first fifteen minutes. I think the best thing to do would be not to vote as a whole from the beginning and wait to be randomly killed. By the way, shout-out to the 16-year-old fella who comes up with the first reasonable idea of the film 50 mins in!

Nice film if you are not expecting much. If it was like 20 people and rounds were bit longer maybe the viewers could care about characters more. Lots of random killings without drama and emotion was pointless to me. Overall not that bad if you don't count the ending.

A very interesting concept and even a decent execution. The movie went by surprisingly fast and I didn't get bored at all, which was unexpected for a fictional social experiment like this. Most of my critisism comes from the ending. I liked the twist, but it was extremely weak overall. I felt it needed a better closure after the intense last rounds.

I'd say the movie aged well, because I rated it on November 17th, 2015 with 41, and today October 13th 2021, I'd definitely give it more. Liked the concept. So simple, yet effective. Yes, most of the characters were basically stereotypes, but with the time limit constantly there we weren't going to know any of the 50 that well regardless. So taking that into consideration.... Circle (2015) was pretty cool for a movie all about people simply standing around in one room for an hour and a half.
