Charlie (Murphy) and Phil (Garlin) are so consumed by their high profile advertising jobs that they are completely missing out on the joys of fatherhood. In the family comedy Daddy Day Care, however, their kids provide them with a crash course in child rearing, with uproarious and heartwarming results. (Sony)

Bland, dull effort by Murphy during his hardcore kiddie phase is not especially egregious, but there’s not much here to recommend; making Huston and her school perform within the bounds of a reasonable educational institution is a misstep the film can’t shake off, making the central conflict illogical and ill-advised (with the humiliation of Huston in the epilogue seeming cruel and unpleasant). Surprisingly, Zahn is the highlight in a genuinely inspired (if limited) performance.

As Eddie has entered his 40s, he continues a familiar trend among edgy Black comedians, emasculated to become popular to mainstream America. However, Eddie still has enough clout to choose the roles he wants, so he seems to still be pulling the strings.

First of all I'd like to say that when this was in the theatres I dragged my roommate at the time into this kicking and screaming. I swore it would be worth it, and I was wrong. I was hoping for a Nutty Professor style poop and fart joke movie. Come on, Eddie Murphy, baby sitting kids?!?!?!?!? But know it was a kids movie, a good one, for parents and kids to see together, but it could have been so much more. One payoff though, Lacey Chabert is in it, love her, and she was just plain wonder

Daddy Day Care is typically unoffensive stuff, but it's definately not that bad. Eddie Murphy, while not up to his previous standards, provides a decent performance and some of the jokes actually work if you are prepared for a little immaturity. Other than the mostly annoying kids there isn't actually anything terribly wrong with the film, just that at times a little more effort could be put into the production. If you ignore the predictable formula, then it passes the time surprisingly well.

I just don't understand why Eddie Murphy keeps getting movie roles when this is more of the average than the substandard in his recent career. Besides, shouldn't children's movies star actors not found with prostitutes?

Daddy Day Care is quite possibly the cleanest movie Eddie Murphy has ever made. Dr. Dolittle 2 was a step in the right direction, but it suffered from a moderate helping of profanity, one of Murphy's infamous trademarks. Day Care doesn't achieve perfection in the language department either, but it's markedly better. It also drives home a number of worthwhile points. The actions of the dynamic (and very male) day-care duo provide a pep talk for hands-off dads everywhere. (pluggedin.com)

In the wake of the monstrous failure that was Pluto Nash, Eddie Murphy needed a big hit to get back in the hearts of the people, sadly this movie is a long way from that. Day Care isn't bad, but it is a long way from being funny. Yet another nail in the coffin for Murphy.

Believe it or not, this is a movie for kids. So if you're over 12, and found the plot lacking, the dialogue lame, or the cinematography not up to par, then you shouldn't be surprised. It's a harmless family movie.

Nearly every joke was in the trailer (not that it mattered much, since the movie's attempts at humor never rise much above sitcom fare). Murphy is restrained to the point of beng forgettable; Steve Zahn's the only bright spot here.

Eddie Murphy being overrun by little kids for ninety minutes. Typical bad live-action family film from that era. Pretty much what you’d expect. Fun for kids. Not so fun for adults. A lot of children running wild, and lots of poop and fart jokes.

Carr's previous movie Dr. Dolittle 2 was a flop. With Daddy Day Care everything is more or less under control... except the kids who actually were really adorable and funny. Movie has stupid subplot with rival day care center.

It would be a lie to say this film doesn't have enjoyable qualities. Eddie Murphy is always enjoyable. Anjelica Huston, despite occasional poor role choices, is amazingly fun to watch no matter the film. The kids are cute. All that being said, Daddy Day Care is a strange mix of juvenile and adult humor. It seems to have been marketed to kids, but many of the jokes in place would go far above their heads. And the film is far to cringworthy in its toilet humor for adults. Take it or leave it.

Even being able to provide many laughs, this film has become an entertainment shallow and uncompromising. It's funny because of the children, not for act well, but because they are the fun of the film. But the serious themes of the film are handled in a superficial way, very cliche.

This is one "family film" that I can stomach. Any movie that has the guts to feature Jonathan Katz acting out a psycho drama with Star Trek action figures is a cut above the rest. This really is a good film, in my opinion, and worth the time spent to watch it.
