I actually made it to the hotel scene before I walked out. Then my fiance followed me into my computer room where she found me giving it a terrible rating on Criticker. She then explained that by me giving it a 17, I'm really just making fun of her and that I've become a movie snob. To which i replied, "you're absolutely right.... I should have given this a 16." That my friends, is the ugly truth.

Wow, this movie has it all. Romantic drive (winding roads plus convertible w/ the top down, natch), expert latin dancing (these two never took a lesson, but they are the STARS of the dance floor), embarrassing accidental nudity in front of love interest, hilarious meows from the cat when something saucy happens, a killer score, and finding love (where least expected!!). Two thumbs way way up!!

It tries to make us feel pity for beautiful people who live in beautiful cities with great jobs because they can't find love. That's a tough sell considering most of us are probably homely people, living in cities bleaker than Sacramento, and having crap jobs which we more than likely hate. Us uggos having someone we love is supposed to put us above all the superficial things that the beautiful people get. Except they fall for each other in the end. Fuck them. My shits are less predictable.

Stuff like this is way more damaging to impressionable young people than 1,000 Freddy Kruegers multiplied by a billion Jigsaw killers. In this movie's world, every female is a scatterbrained dolt and every male is either a walking erection or an ineffectual but well-meaning wuss. Guess who the scatterbrained dolt goes for? Oh, don't worry, I wouldn't dream of giving it away. If you think "be a deplorable person, get rewarded with true love" sounds like worthwhile lesson, give this one a whirl.

The script is awful and full of raunch, the premise ridiculous. Butler and Heigl have decent enough comedic timing to take it to a level closer to "Knocked Up" than most rom-coms, but it's still fairly forgettable. Worth a rent on a quiet evening, even if to just check out the gag reel which has funnier ad-libbed lines than the actual movie. Then again, you can probably find that on YouTube... Ah yes, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIbook8SMGY Skip the movie.

Katherine Heigl, if you really care about the issue of sexism enough to accused Knocked Up of being so, then a movie like this that is based entirely around the concept of your eventual romantic interest's backwards, piggish, demeaning and, yes, sexist beliefs being reaffirmed as truth is NOT the kind of movie you should be starring in. And that's on TOP of the fact that its levels of unfunny are cancerous.

A successful local television producer (Heigl) is unable to succeed in a romantic relationship. Her newest TV talk show star (butler), teaches her the "ugly truth" about men and woman. His proven crude theories result in an unforeseen twist of love.

Nothing worse than a vapid rom-com that *thinks* it's edgy and insightful. I wanted to punch everyone in the face for different reasons, and I laughed maybe three times. And I know it's kind of the point, but there is no way on God's mostly-blue earth Mike Chadway's show would even make it on air, let alone be as popular as it gets.

It is what it is. Ugly? Yes. Truthful? Yes. The movie is the ugly truth that most of these romantic date comedy movies are all the same. It did have it slightly funny moments which help keep it bearable, and for it not to drop down to the bottom tier of these types. Is it wrong to say that I found G. Butler somewhat funny? If you have any questions about the film ask me quick because I am never going to see it again and it will soon mush up into all the other date films i have seen.

Not at all as bad as I expected or the ratings here would indicate, but there's just too much wrong with it to recommend it in any way. The film is awfully written, but luckily Butler somewhat saves it and brings something to his character that makes him at least seem alive. A few laughs are to be had, but not many, and there are more awkward moments than there are funny ones.

The writers here found an intriguing concept that could've been the defying romantic-comedy willing to be risky. Instead, the writers developed a safe, by-the-numbers script that exists in some dimension other than reality--one where Katherine Heigl needs dating tips, a local news program would replace headlines with sex-talk nonsense, and where the restaurant orgasm scene in "When Harry Met Sally" didn't happen. This is terrible, stupid, superficial trash.

The fact that Katherine Heigl is SUCH an attractive woman really distracts from "The Ugly Truth". IF ONLY the movie had cast an average-looking actress to play the lead, it would have been soooo much more believable (thus more enjoyable). All this being said, I was quite surprised at how well Heigl delivered the character despite her miscasting. She did as well as she possible could considering this obstacle. The movie is cute enough to be worthy of a Redbox Rental.

It took me several times to get through this. A film this bizarre and awful HAS to be terrible on purpose--but I don't know if it is. It's the only time I have ever, while by myself, uttered, "That's stupid," during a movie. Seriously. It's very sexist--unintentionally and intentionally. It's either brilliant in its ability to be stupid or pathetic in the FACT that it's stupid. I cannot believe that women wrote this. I expect better from the fairer sex.

I think this movie is not just a "chick-flick", I felt that it had enough raunchy humor to entertain the guys. It kept me laughing the entire time. But it IS a romantic comedy so don't expect fantastic scripts, acting, or special effects.

Bland yet pretty "ugly" rom-com does nothing that Harry and Sally didn't do (though H&S were more subtle and classy than this); silly and contrived from the get-go, with Butler and Heigl sharing little chemistry together, but doing their best to bring some snap to the comedy (and landing a couple of mild chuckles here and there). While documentary realism is not important in this genre, its "news media" backdrop is absurd as presented - no wonder their station is tanking in the ratings!

The bottom of the barrel for "romantic" "comedies." (Words in quotation marks because this movie is neither of those things.) Rolls out a checklist of rom-com tropes stolen from countless better films without checking whether their inclusion made any sense and delivered by leads with zero chemistry. I could keep going on about why it's bad but the movie is so soulless that spending any longer than 30 seconds writing my review feels like more attention than it deserves.

a standard romantic comedy with nothing to add to the genre, no explorations of the psyche's of the main characters, no weird twists, no interesting subtext. just plain old "boy meets girl, girl dislikes boy, boy dislikes girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl falls in love with boy" story that we've been told a hundred times since meg ryan decided to be an actress. a mildly entertaining pic that would pass the time if you're willing to feel dumb, and there's absolutely no shame in that.

The Ugly Truth is a very average rom com at best that I regretfully agreed to watch. Katherine Heigl has become a rom com regular and one of the most generic actresses I've ever come across. However the films saving grace is the crude comic relief of Gerard Butler. He's an actor I don't have much care for and his performance is pretty tasteless. But without his inclusion and handful of funny lines, this film would of been a complete flop.

Y'know what, sometimes it's nice to shut off your brain and just enjoy what you see on the screen. Katie-Hi is very good, sexy, actually found her to be a fairly compelling character, and it's getting to the point where I'll watch Gerard make breakfast, I've enjoyed him in everything I've seen. Sure he's one-dimensional for most of the flick and makes the trademark (read: predictable) good-guy turn at the end, but y'know what, as far as late-2000's romantic comedies go, I'm lovin' this one.

I actually wanted to see this movie, for Butler if nothing else. After seeing it, I was sorry to spend money on it - after promising first 20 minutes, it all went downhill from there.
