Was absoulutely hilarious for the first 40 minutes then I only laughed about 3 times the rest of the film. Still, for the first 40 mins which were golden, it gets this rating.

Obviously, after years of coming-of-age films set in inner cities with hip-hop soundtracks, a spoof was due. The production is less cinematic and more an amalgam of Airplane's gag story mixed with In Living Color's sketch comedy. It's funny, though! The creators get what makes those movies work; especially the great commentary on absentee mothers and the repeated concept of a message. Still, your mileage will vary based on your affinity of the pictures of this era. Marginal recommendation.

Really funny in the first half but then drops off a cliff in the second half. I like blaxploitation parodies. Fav scene: I had the most laugh out loud moment when The Man was checking off a list of black people including MJ, OJ, and Tupac, then tosses a black glove.

Ungainly assemblage of gags has no sense of structure or rhythm which means its rote and predictable gags never really have a chance of working; a harbinger of the SCARY MOVIE series. An enthusiastic cast does their best, but can only raise a scarce chuckle or two.

It maintains a gag density that reaches Airplane! levels but unfortunately the lack of variety in said gags gets slightly stale by the end. Still, I'm a fan of all the visual humor and I think this does a great job using the camera to enhance the jokes. It's definitely more clever than Marlon's dumb facial contortions make it appear.

Re-watched this recently. I still think there's a lot of hilariousness in it, but the funny really dies down about half-way through. I have to downgrade it from my previous ranking of 85 (which I would still give to the first half).

Many people can blame it for being the first Shawn and Marlon Wayans film unleashed upon this Earth, but it's actually funny in parts as a dumb homage to the Zucker Brothers' visual pun style.

Funny, but could have been so much better. Not as good as other spoof movies like Not Another Teen Movie, the first Airplane movie, or the first Scary Movie. Maybe it's because I've never watched or had any interest in watching any of the movies it is spoofing.

i'm not a big fan of marlon wayans' goofy faces schtick, but his performance doesn't stop the film from succeeding. it puts a nice twist on your standard ghetto comedy jokes and stays clear of any hopeful turns that would get in the way of its core of cynicism.

Fun, and certainly nothing near the levels of terrible the Wayans would later succumb to in terms of their parody films, but there's a real lack of coherence to this. It's essentially a sketch show spread out to 90 minutes, and having a knowledge of the films parodied is pretty much required to enjoy this - though as the film goes on there are more and more dud jokes, but overall if you have a enjoyment of hood films there's enough to enjoy here.

The title is the funniest part of the movie. After a while all the non sequitors start to drag, but the gags are as funny as team Wayans gets in the cinematic medium.

Aside from the great title, this spoof of hood-life movies is frustratingly sloppy and uneven, some of the best jokes being background details ("RoboPimp", "Black to the Hood") or offhand moments (the bell at the convenience store). Elsewhere, the timing is off, but the material is so lame that it could hardly be elevated. The acting is heavy on the mugging, though Marlon Wayans, as the manic Loc Dog, most often hits the right note of vivid madness. Best recommended to Wayans completists.

As a big fan of Menace II Society & Boyz n the Hood, I was really disappointed I didn't see this one when I was a kid. Well 24 years later I finally got the chance...and it's shite. As to be expected really, now that I know from the Scary Movie series what a Wayans comedy involves ('spoofs' that just involve reshooting scenes shot-for-shot/line-for-line without even adding a joke). There are a few surprising laughs that catch you off-guard, but most of it is lame, predictable, eye-rolling stuff.
