As Summers Die
The plot centers around a large area of land owned by an old black lady, Elvira Backus. It had been given to her by her one time employer and secret father of her two children, a southern patriarch. Discovering oil on the afore mentioned property, the patriarch's family tries to regain the land by destroying the deed and denying it ever existed. Coming to Elvira Backus's aid is attorney Willie Croft. He attempts to get back Elvira's land and leads the movie to it's eventual court scene.
White Mama
A poor, elderly white woman living in a tenement in a black ghetto is befriended by a neighborhood boy, and the two of them form a mutually beneficial relationship: he provides her companionship and protection, and she becomes the mother he never had.
The Present with a Future
It's Christmas morning, and pre-teens Billy and Ginny have expectations of what they will receive as gifts, Ginny a bicycle and Billy a railroad set. Instead, they receive war bonds as a gift from their mother, who explains to them that the war bonds will help what their father is fighting for, and may even pay to save his life is he were wounded.
