Very watchable for the first several seasons. It peaks in Season 4 and then just drops off a fucking cliff, so I would watch the first 3 seasons in anticipation of the 4th, and then just stop watching cold turkey.

Good but wore out quickly. John Lithgow in season 4 was probably the best antagonist. Easy to recommend but also easy to suggest skipping. So do what you want, I don't care.

After the series ended, I was kind of torn. Seasons 1 - 4 were really amazing (especially Season 4!). Season 5 was not so super amazing, but following the forth season, that was hard to do, still ok. And then it kind of went downhill, slowly, but steadily. I was really disappointed in the ending, it just didn't do justice to the greatness of the early seasons. Still a good show.

A great premise with a real ability to form a long-lasting connection with it's viewers. The series can be hokey, but it is all part of the charm. Michael C Hall breathes iconic life into one of television's most enjoyable characters.

I really would like to rate this higher, but honestly, it fell off after a few seasons. Especially the last two. People say that it dropped in quality after season 4, but I think even season 2 fell off. I had to stop myself from skipping more than a few scenes because of how annoyed I was with a character, which was the point, but it got to that point of "I can't take it anymore". Wish the quality stayed up from the first season.

S1-2 were 10/10, S3 lagged; later seasons got GoT S5-8 bad, though most of the fanbase disagrees on exactly why, from what I’ve seen. Personally Rita & all love interests except one were annoying af. The kid never stopped being annoying, then even Deb started to get annoying. Still worth watching. No seasons were consistently bad, but S3 & the final reboot season were the worst because both Rita/Hunter are insufferable. Also the whole thing is lowkey ASD coded per my hot take. 😂

On the premises alone, this tv show deserves a high ranking. Around the fourth season, it would seem that all the writers, directors, and cast have been replaced with shells of idea-less human-like dolls. Everything changed for the worse, even Dexter thoughts didn't feel like his and no argument of character development can discredit that.

Just could not make it through one more episode of that insufferable British woman he dates. Guess I got lucky as the general opinion is that this show goes off the rails in the finals few seasons. Save yourself some trouble and don't even start.

While the first two seasons are fantastic and the 5 followings are good, the last season is just like the Miami hurricane in the last episode; Dexter becomes a boring idiot who repeats the same mistakes that led to Rita's death. The series ended for me in the 7th season.

I really loved it, with its flaws of course, for the first four seasons. The idea at the base of the series and summarized below, mixed with a kind of dark humour and light love stories, with a great aesthetic of the blood, was great. I would rate them 75. After, it's a mess.

Based on the first two seasons, this was an intriguing concept for me (I like focusing on serial killers in shows/movies), but failed due it succumbing to the usual bad American show tropes present back in this time. The main man is performed too smugly for his own good and doesn't really reign in any narcissism or self-delusion that makes real serial killers interesting, and the supporting characters were pretty awful, especially his sister. Death Note is a far better substitute for this.

Starts out truly great, but gets derailed and ends up with a disappointing final season, which then get distilled into a horrible and rage-inducing last episode. Shame, because it had tonnes of atmosphere and Dexter was so extremely recognizable as a man who has to fake a connection to a world he does not even understand. His monologues were the epitome of dark humour.

I knew I was going to love this show just by the opening scene. "Tonight's the night..." The Lithgow season is one of the best seasons of television ever. Unfortunately, Michael C. Hall gets cancer in real life at one point and when he comes back he's not as cut up and menacing and the character loses a lot of credibility. Top it off with some horrific writing and the worst ending in the modern era of television and my rating has to drop. Stop after season 5 and you'll love this show

Score is for S1 + S2 only, Michael C. Hall is hilarious and the whole dynamic with Doakes was doubly so. Stopped watching it as soon as they brought in a family plot at the end of the second season, so I dodged a bullet.

Peaked at season 4 and went steadily downhill from there until being absolute garbage. The first four seasons are more or less great, but the show is not really worth watching after that as it only disappoints. Showtime doesn't know when to let their good shows gracefully bow out while they are still good.

It was able to carry suspense for multiple seasons. And it was quite cinematic at a time when few shows had the means to do so. It squandered the good will of its fan base by turning the series to complete shit by the end. The finale is rightfully regarded as one of the worst finales.
