Emilia Clarke on top form is honestly the only real reason this is worthwhile - and it is. The narrative leaves a lot to be desired. The subject matter is pretty delicate, serious and kind of a big deal, but it doesn't really deal with it in a nuanced way, and the romantic drama focus is honestly pretty weird considering the underlying theme. At certain points unbearably melodramatic, but mostly it works fine until you think about it in hindsight, which I guess isn't far below par for the genre.

None of this feels remotely real, it's like Amelie meets Born on the Fourth of July, and yet it's immediately forgettable.

It's quite alright, luckily not as sappy as I'd expected it to be. No instant love, which made the first part of the movie especially enjoyable. Clarkes' character and her quirkiness seemed a bit overdrawn at the beginning but it either got better over time or I just got used to it... Anyways, I quite liked her in the end. The love story is... well, predictable, and less shocking because of that. Still, I liked the way they ended it, felt real and honest.

Cute and lighthearted despite the dark theme. Never seen a big budget movie explore the topics of paralysis and assisted suicide with such a frontal no bullshit approach. Left satisfied. Good message in that movie, manages to cheer you up even through the saddest bits.

This kind of thing isn't my cup of tea but as far as female fantasies go, this one's watchable even for me. It has the usual romantic comedy look (the world the characters live in is always beautiful even in her ostensibly crappy hometown) w/ a protagonist that's as sweet and kind as they come, but things never get too cutesy since the spectre of the love interest's possible death is always around & although he's uber-rich, his own inner struggle with handicap is never sugar-coated.

Bland, insipid romance tries to force a serious-minded exploration of assisted suicide into the mould of a Nicholas Sparks story, and subsequently guts any inherent interest in the set-up; there was apparently more substance in the original novel which was excised to be more palatable for the romance crowd. Clarke's over-exaggerated and irritatingly, studiously 'quirky' performance is grating, but it is nice to have the rare chance of seeing Dance play warm and likable!

I think this is trying to occupy a space somewhere between weepy, emotional drama and uplifting, intelligent rom-com. Unfortunately, because it is clumsy in its handling of the subject matter and too schmaltzy to be genuinely touching, it doesn't really have a foot in either camp. There is only one positive aspect of the film as far as I can see. That is the chemistry between the two leads. Unfortunately, this is not nearly enough to save the film from being a misfire.

It is what it is. The small moments are done well, and there are some good aspects to the overall arc, but it's still bent on being an idealistic romantic fantasy story and none of the little things challenge the mold.

Well written and deals with a deeply profound subject. But Emila Clarke is distractive, not as many might say, with her bubbliness, which is endearing and required for her character, but for her overly busy facial expressions. Her face is incredibly expressive and flexible, but she overuses it throughout.

W3E1P1S1V1M0A1R1. Sad that Emilia Clarke will likely be limited in her career because of her Khaleesi stereotype, because this character--bumbling and adorable--is her element. She doesn't quite own the really emotional scenes, but she's a joy and makes a boring and trite movie watchable. Music is just a series of 6-notes piano riffs repeated over and over again without any regard to the actual mood of the scene.

I'll be honest: I tried my hardest to go in with as few expectations as possible. Tough in this day and age. But with an open mind, absolutely. I liked the chemistry between Clarke and Claflin for the most part, and the first half of this movie I actually can say that I quite enjoyed. For me however the second half becomes clunky, self-important, and cliche-ridden. Is it emotional? Sure. Is it predictable? I believe so. And I'm more comfortable calling this movie "not bad", rather than "good".

I watched the film version of Jojo Moyes' 2012 bestseller surrounded by women who laughed through their tears and vice versa. The few dudes in attendance sat stoically, resigned to their fate or maybe holding back their feelings. Surprise: Me Before You isn't an unduly painful endurance test.

Tries to be a more mature take on the "Beauty and the Beast" trope where a female love interest has a limited time to reciprocally fall in love with the grumpy, beastly, yet secretly loving and kind male lead to "save" him from a woeful fate. I'm actually surprised this wasn't a Nicholas Sparks script. The tearjerking efforts were extremely heavy handed to a point it felt offensive. Leads were gorgeous and I did enjoy their bickering. Ending felt emotionally spoonfed.

Fuck You and Your Eyebrows. A personagem da Clarke é absolutamente atroz, assim como dos pais dele, assim como cada pessoa chamando o filme de capacitista e não respeitando a subjetividade do protagonista. TV aberta.

pro-assisted suicide propaganda, disgusting. It's just disgusting that someone used a romantic comedy to promote assisted suicide. The movie tries to say that supporting such act would be a honorable thing to do, unbelievable.

Felt like they could have done a better job flushing out the internal struggle Sam Claflin's wheel-bound character is going through as a disabled man whose life used to be full of adventure and thrill. Even though the book also focused on Emily Clark's character and point-of-view, I think even it did a better job to get the audience to understand his mentality.

Me Before You (2016) is the usual adorable British rom-com. Sweet and cute and stuff.... but got so much wrong with it, symbolized perfectly by Charles Dance playing a sympathetic person.

Just a vapidly generic romance movie. I didn't find anything special about the chemistry between the actors, and the trials and tribulations, personal growth they undergo all seem a bit trivial. In particular the core struggle of the story, the male lead's disability, is mostly glossed over and its unscenic bits swept under the rug, which makes it all a bit shallow.
