Your experience with this movie hinges entirely on how much you're able to invest in the relationship between the mother and daughter. It had me hook, line, and sinker, or in this case, machete, reality layers, and emotional conflict.

A perfect horror comedy (in my opinion) It has this great sorta Scream vibe, where their smarter then the movie, but because their in the movie they are forced to follow movie rules and I'm not bothered that they poke fun at the Friday The 13th franchise Definitely worth the watch !

It isn't the funniest (though it has a few really good gags) and it's definitely not the scariest, but somehow this film escapes the typical confines of comedic horror movies and ends up being genuinely touching. It's a nice satire of the slasher flick, but the real star is the emotional bond between Max and her mom, along with the visual flair that accompanies it. 80s is in, and it isn't top of its class, but the use of colours is beautiful... great cinematography.

It's not perfect but this is the kind of film that'll leave you wondering why the hell you've never heard of it. (Presumably that title and non-existent marketing didn't help.) More than just a clever parody of 80s slasher flix, there's actually a surprisingly moving & compelling storyline here as well that works incredibly well thanks to the performances of the 2 leads. The film's actually filled with good performers who must've - understandably - expected the film to do far better than it did.

Straddling broad genres of slasher, comedy, drama, and even fantasy, "The Final Girls" never fully commits to any one thing, yet it remains fully competent in all it's blended parts. It's a fully enjoyable movie worth a watch, but not much more.

As far as genre parody films go, The Final Girls is up there. The horror aspect is played down (which was to my liking), leaving plenty of room for humour, of both slapstick and meta varieties. This results in a film that is self-aware and fun. The cast is pretty decent and the 80's pop doesn't hurt the film either.

A very enjoyable and funny send up of slasher movies. The plot device is unique, and the deeper emotional moments that are often quite terrible in comedy and horror work very well here.

Some more practical effects and blood and some less PG13 and this could have been the snake person Scream; it's got both humour, heart and just enough cleverness, and there are bits that work really well. Ultimately, though, it feels like the scriptwriter forgot to invite the director over for an all-night VHS fest of old slashers before they started.

Loved this! An 80's horror movie parody with a good and familiar cast. Had me laughing hard many times. Angela Trimbur (The stupid one) was for me the star of the movie. I only wish there was more movies like this. If you liked this you should see Tucker & Dale vs Evil also :)

The thing that would've made this transcend to great for me is if they weren't clearly gunning for a PG-13 rating. You notice it throughout with the lack of blood and gore but around the time of the stripping scene it becomes painfully obvious that's what they were shooting for. Tons of hot chicks, it's clever and funny and Adam Devine is great. Fun if you're a fan of horror and if you don't know what a final girl is it's very informative. Also, Akerman is very close to hitting the wall RIP

We need more films like this. Big budget films are predictable and formulaic (i.e. they don't take risks) Great premise and fun execution. If you liked "Cabin in the Woods" or "Tucker & Dale vs. Evil"..you'll dig this. What sucks is that most people won't see this film and the sequel will never happen. THERE MUST BE A SEQUEL!!!!!

While it fails to embrace the campy, bloody genre it pays conceptual homage to, its clever concept and surprisingly effective mother-daughter relationship carry it to relative success as its own film. It's never exceptionally groundbreaking, but it is smart and enjoyable.

I am so happy this movie exists because there is a shortage of well-done horror comedies like The Rise of Leslie Vernon. It was fun to watch some great actors from TV have screen time in a feature film. The cinematography is fun and playful while at the same time well crafted. There are some great lines and laughs scattered throughout the film. I grew tired of it during the third act, but I am not sure if that is on me or the story. Also, I did not like the killer's mask. It was probably a joke,

This trips over itself lots of times while trying to balance genuine pathos, spoofy humor, and horror movie scares. It's clever and original, though. Fans of 1980's slasher pics should definitely check it out.

A little bit better than Cabin in the Woods or Tucker & Dale vs. Evil if only because it seems to have just the slightest bit more respect for horror as a genre and because it pinpoints, in a way that is almost kind of nimble, the irreducibly individual joys of moviegoing -- maybe you like a film because you're a Bathematician & maybe you like it because it reminds you of your mom. That said, it's the opposite of scary, the jokes are all obvious, & it flails in its general attempts at wackiness

You can nitpick with this one, the themes are a little muddled and some of the CG effects are offputting but it's quite charming overall and the practical effects, solid performances and general enthusiasm for the material is evident. A solid Halloween trick-'r-treat evening hours watch.

Considering I love films like this, I expected more. Not that I didn’t enjoy what this brought to the table. The humor was mostly good, concept great, and some surprisingly dramatic moments. I’m okay with the PG-13 rating, although to get the films this is referencing you’d need to have seen some R rated horror, and it might’ve even helped the film feel a bit more accurate. If you like horror spoofs, this is one of the better ones.

Wow, this was pretty much a failure all around. Not funny, scary or thrilling. It feels like there is no stakes because there's no tension. It wasn't really good at poking fun at horror or using the tropes well (same problem as Cabin in the Woods). Watch The Visit instead.

This is a self-aware parody of slashers where a group of people gets pulled into one of the Friday the 13th's and have to operate within the specific set of rules the film operates under. There is no variation on this. The film glitches out and resets if you try to do something the film world isn't set up for. With that being said, there is a deep sentimental twinge to this film that I think actually works pretty well.

A love letter to "Scream" and slashers, a hit n miss flick that's way too un-bloody. However, it's valuable in terms of dealing with and getting over obsession with these movies. Also, bloopers were really funny.

“Stuck inside a movie/book/whathaveyou” plot devices are always fascinating but I’m just bored beyond belief of slasher chaser movies. It’s basically the same scene over and over again, killing off characters with each run until you are left with the final girl. As captivating as watching a pizza in a micro oven. Fun for 2 minutes. Not 2 hours. The ending was so sickly sweet that I need to go on a keto diet for a month to recover.

I realllllly enjoyed the vibe of this until the third act kinda missed the plot. I loved how everybody was a character, even Vicki, especially Vicki, the cast was quite lovely and it ended up being a wholesome slasher, which is an unexpected but welcome slasher variation.

It's got some good parts and some decent jokes, but horror comedy has certainly been done a lot better in the past. There's more comedy than horror, which is a bit disappointing, but it seems pretty genuine. The folks considered the side characters ended up being funnier and more interesting than the main ones.

I thought this would be a post-modern slasher homage in the vein of Scream, but it's more fantasy - like a Groundhog Day horror comedy. It looks good and has some familiar TV faces in the cast, but it's not really that funny to work as a straight up comedy, and the PG rating hurts it as a horror film. Surely the target audience - people who remember 80's summer camp slashers would be old enough for some more gore. The director's "Isn't it romantic" is basically the same thing for romcoms.

A film with plenty of ambition but not the discipline to realize it nor the desire to state clearly what its goals are, THE FINAL GIRLS gets to a place where it seems exasperated with the idea of paying homage to campy '80s horror flicks. There is some fun to be had, but you kind of have to dig for it.

The Final Girls (2015) is not to be confused with Final Girl (2015), both with Alexander Ludwig. This was decent. It seemed most of the auxiliary cast eclipsed the lead Taissa Farmiga (Vera's youngest sister). It was a case of underwritten, underperformed. I thought the very final scene was a predictable hollywood cop-out with ultimately little plot resolution. While this DID have some fun scenes I would only recommend it if it's the end of a long day and your mind is turning off and you just wa

Horror comedy is a genre of films that often fail because they can do neither well. This film is marred by an actress whose acting consists of staring into the distance. The emotional bond between mother/daughter never resonates because of Farmiga. Adam DeVine is the only spark of life in this forgettable film.
