Johnny Utah's back from the FBI to throw touchdowns and score with some cheerleaders. something like that.

Riddled with cliches and stereotypes, but passable popcorn flick for the first hour or so. Then I realized it's overlong, sorta impenetrable for non-Americans for whom American rugby is little but a concussion free-for-all, and that as far as miscast leads go, Reeves isn't even interesting since he hardly puts in any effort at all. Him and his love interest felt like they belonged in a different film; Hackman also felt sorta detached, but he was the best, most earnest part of The Replacements.

I really dig this, despite everyone's wooden acting, and the awful "commentary" by Madden and Summerall. It's just a lot of fun. Favreau, the sumo, and the club bouncers were just fun, great characters.

This is absolutely a guilt pleasure. The Replacements is undeniably corny and cliche. It's also has that typical macho ru-ha energy to it, and it's incredibly dumb, but it just works for me. Even the little love story to it is pretty nice. I think Gene Hackman has a lot of fun with this, and I can't really hate on Keanu either. I wouldn't say this is leagues above other football movies, but for me, it is. That's certainly a guilty pleasure if I've ever heard one.

So utterly cliche and harmless, hitting all the standard beats for comedy and sports films, that some nice performances allow me to excuse it.

What I learned from this movie: cheating scabs always win because they have heart, and true coaches always choose straw hats over headsets.

Mix your average football/sports movie with your average comedy, make it a little funnier, and kazaam! you have The Replacements.

I love football. This movie sucks. Nothing but quick shots to cheerleaders, fake action, coach glares, over and over and over and over.

Hackman seems to have some fun with this, as do most of the supporting cast. Other than that its a horrifically cliched dickheads come together to win type thing. The soundtrack is offensively bland.

Not fantastic, but somehow I can't avoid watching it. Maybe it's the hot cheerleaders, maybe it's the football, I don't know.

Very typical sports feel good movie. When I go to break boards in my TaeKwonDo class, especially if I fail on my first hit, my board holders will recite those lines from the end...something like "Pain heals, chicks dig scars, glory is forever". Every single guy in my class knows that line by heart.

A by-the-numbers inspirational sports comedy. It's as predictable as the flooding of the Nile, but functions effectively if you don't think about it too much. Rhys Ifans steals the show, but in a film where everything is just about lukewarm, that isn't saying much.

Full of ridiculous stuff (female reporter in a male dressing room, whores employed as cheerleaders, an adult guy who doesn't know how to stand up for himself when his car is being destroyed) and boring during about first 30 mins. When it finally gets better it has its funny and cute moments (i.e. "ouch" written on an adhesive tape), but a soapy romance destroys it.This movie is pretty average. It tells you nothing is impossible no matter who you are, which is a total BS. Watchable, but only once.

There's a lot that time has shown to be wrong in this movie as far as realities of football, and there's a healthy dose of 90s -isms for good measure. But in spite of all of that, it's also just a fun football, underdog, feel good movie.

I believe Falco as someone who can lead this team, because I believe he's been as low as he can go emotionally, and I believe he's ready to take advantage of the chance he's been given. Of course, it may just be that I'm susceptible to this genre's cliches, and "The Replacements," though hardly a great sports film, plays with them effectively. No wonder I still enjoy it after all these years.

Fun garbage. Nothing new or special here, exact same plot as every other romance played out as a sporting drama. The players manage to be pretty entertaining & have a good time, which is catching. Seems like an anti-greed (anti-pro sports) picture, after all, why should some one get paid millions of dollars to play football, many of my friends could live off a million dollars for the rest of their life (invested at say 5%). Has heart.

Look, before you disagree with me, go see the film. It's got Gene Hackman - who does a good job. It's got Jack Warden - who also does a good job. It has the best cheerleaders I've ever seen (in a mainstream movie). Granted Keanu is Keanu, but if you are a football fan and you still hurt from the strike from years ago, you'll apreciate this movie. Heck you might even laugh.
