Crestfallen the original Max cornered other dogs and forced them to watch him lick his lipstick tube penis. Patton is a much better voice actor. Whatever cute fluff again.

The second act of the sequel is more enjoyable (and truer to the film title) than the first movie, but the first and third acts are just as outlandish and nonsensical as anything Illumination has done. It's cute they tied all the interwoven stories together, but I only cared about one of them to begin with (unsurprisingly it had Harrison Ford, the only person in this voicecast worth anything). Jenny Slate should jump off the roof of One World Trade Center. And Tiffany Haddish.

The narrative is very lazy and packed with filler and dead ends. But if it’s target is to keep the kids entertained for 90 minutes without making the experience painful for Dad, well then this achieves that aim. Basic, but amusing enough and non-grating.

I was open to this film being somewhat uncaring to the cinematic format and presenting a series of episodic sketches that at least could've been funny. But with the atrociously narcissistic voice-acting and joke-less script, housed in a film that seemed unsure and uncaring as to how to structure these various storylines, this is offensively poor even to the most easy-to-please children. The poster right there says "don't laugh", as if we weren't trying our hardest already.

A very large chunk of The Secret Life of Pets 2 is pointless and dumb. The movie focuses on three different sets of characters in three different plots, and two of them are entirely filler. About 20 minutes of the actual runtime is the actual plot. The main character Max gets the least amount of screentime and his subplot contributes nothing, and neither does the Cat subplot. Sadly, the jokes are not funny at all and the whole thing is bland and uninspiring. One of Illumination's worst movies.

While it's funny, it has far too many subplots for its own good.

It's got a big movie budget and I enjoyed seeing the characters again, but the separate subplots made this franchise feel like it's better suited for a TV series. The charm of the original included all the animals coming together. What was with the bad Eastern European mustache-twirling villain stereotype? Fav scene: Gidget encountering the cat lady's home for the first time.

Well, I didn't see the first movie; but I don't think I missed much aside from some self-referencing. I like the approach of not bothering with a story and just tying up one sketch after another; it is better than having a flimsy plot just for sake of having one. The characters are really cute (not Disney cute, a different kind of cuteness which is refreshing), and the hip-hop part with the rabbit in the very end is downright hilarious. My daughter enjoyed it a lot, and by proximity so did I.

Tedious and noisy follow-up feels like a made-for-video effort writ large - even more plotless than part 1, this finds our heroes randomly divided into groups to complete disconnected odd jobs. The lack of cohesion, or a solid narrative, makes it a tough slog once the dopamine hit of "pretty colours" wears off. Even heavy-hitter Ford can't bring life to this, with his performance only marginally more animated than his BLADE RUNNER narration!

Max has gone through the necessary changes in his familiar life: his owner Katie has found the man of her dreams and has expanded her family with her son Liam. After a difficult transition period, Max has now found his feet, but a family trip to a farm turns his life upside down again. Meanwhile, Max's friends who stayed behind in New York have their own adventures.

I actually quite enjoyed this film. True: Quite plotless and too simple, even for children, but I liked the characters and the jokes so it worked for me.

It's fun. I think the change from Louis C.K. to Patton Oswalt was done for obvious reasons, but I also think that Oswalt just plays the part better in this case. Regardless, Kevin Hart is the real reason for watching, as was the case with the original.

This film bears the hallmarks of a direct-to-video release of yester-year; a sequel with a paper thin plot that manages to capture the flaws of first film without the charm or novelty. The entire plot is banal, barring the sequence where Rooster (Ford) takes Max to find a runaway lamb and his courage. Sadly 5 good minutes don't redeem the formulaic nonsense that surrounds it. Sadly an American-centric film targeted at younger kids where the baddie is Russian and the Chinese tiger is the victim.

The concept of three small subplots converging into one major plot does not sound too bad, but it failed in execution. But then again, there may not have been many options to choose from, considering that they had to assign some screen time for each of the main characters.

The central concept of seeing and hearing what pets think and do when humans are gone is still amusing and the characters are cute and fun, so it is still enjoyable enough. But this really suffers from giving every fan fav character of the first one screen time in three separate very loosely connected plots of which none are given the space to develop well after a quite promising first half hour.

It was a mixed bag. The first half feels a bit disconnected as the story splits into three parts. It does all connect up at the end, but I don't know if you could entirely call it satisfying story wise. It made me and my kids laugh, so it does have that going for it, but the story is a bit lacking.

Being that I never saw the first one, I'm just going completely off what this one is, and it's fine. Nothing about it was overly funny, but I did find 2 things that got me. The story is formulaic, but it lends itself to the cuter moments of the film, and I wouldn't be surprised if pet lovers found this completely cute. I love animation films, and Hart does a bit for me here, but you don't actually give a shit about anyone in this, and that's it's biggest downfall.

TV aberta.

I think I enjoyed the first film more than some did, but this felt like a cash grab. The story was forced with too much going on and an extremely boring villain.

So when I said in my review of the first movie, that I hoped they wouldn't do a sequel, this was what I was afraid of. But they did pander to me as a cat lady, so I'm obliged to, in return, bump the score twenty points. Also my fosterbabies seemed to like it.

Max and Dukes getaway plot was the weakest of the film but nothing quite seems to fit together like it did in the first film. It's all just mismashed attempts at comedic situations that spend a lot of time wasting all of our time and money. Plus the change from Louis CK to Patton Oswalt is painfully obvious and it hurt the film.
