Color me shocked that this series of video game movies, ostensibly made for kids, has managed to not just maintain but actually increase in scope, stakes, and (most surprisingly) quality with each installment. Am I becoming easier to please in my old age? Either way, this was a good time.

This movie was basically perfection. It was incredibly faithful in the way it adapted the story from Sonic Adventure 2, to the point of including some really iconic moments that any fan would love. I think this is probably one of the best video game adaptations there are, and managed to take the best story from the games and make it even better. One of my top movies of the year!

The whole series is really well judged and tonally on point. This third instalment is arguably the strongest of the three. The CGI team deserve a shout out, because this looked great. The cast and voice work is all good, double Carrey is a treat and the character arcs work. There’s nothing revolutionary going on here, but it’s family box office cinema done right.

I think this was better than a 3rd part in a series based on a videogame has any right to be. They fix many issues that I had with the previous instalment; this one didn't feel as confusing or overlong. The ever increasing list of characters have a good amount of screentime each and the overall runtime is kept at 110mins - which is still a bit too long. Carrey is clearly having a blast playing his role(s) and there a some delightful WTF moments like the extended "Galvanize" dance sequence.

They keep putting these films out and I keep watching them. There are probably lots of flaws if I nitpick (everything's not logical!), but who doesn't love seeing Jim Carrey get crazy? Knuckles could have been better utilized. Fav scene: fighting his grandpa.

A legitimately awesome superhero thrill spectacle. As more characters get added, it just gets better. Shadow is a tragic figure. Fight scenes with the CGI characters are fantastic. Handles speed better than basically any current movies. Still falls victim to some of the jokes being really bad, and some of it is a little hokey (preventing it from reaching a 95) but it never stops being fun, ultimately. Knuckles is still comedy gold: "I've dishonoured my marshmallow" after he burns it.

About on par with the second one but the additional Carrey character (Grandpa) was a bit much. I can see how this movie could work as a gateway to blockbusters for grown-ups but watching it with my kid also made me question if using peril and death as suspense and character motivation is something these kinds of movies really need.

Goofy and geeky fun that thankfully leaves behind the excess human subplots of the first two movies to up the stakes by loosely adapting the plot of the Dreamcast/GameCube classic Sonic Adventure 2. Only issue is that 23 years later Sonic Adventure 2 is still basically the last Sonic game with a story people like or care about (although games like Colors & Mania have been well received gameplay wise) so who knows where they’ll go from here!

Fowler and his writing team are just making legitimately good movies at this point, not just solid Sonic flicks. Some of the plotting is standard blockbuster fare, not all of the jokes land and it feels just a little long. But it’s also a very faithful adaptation that manages to flesh out not just its antagonist (Shadow ruled by the way), but its titular character as well. Has the best acting, action and third act in the trilogy as well. Carrey is deliciously over-the-top. Surprisingly good!

I honestly have a soft spot for this franchise overall. It manages to perfectly capture a lot of the 90's nostalgia for those of us who grew up playing the original video game and borrows some elements from the storylines of the original game series, while also branching out in a unique, self aware direction. There's enough fun action for kids, but also quite a few "wink wink" mature humor moments for the adults to appreciate.

I am floored by how much the Sonic series improves with subsequent movie. What's more, it's truly impressive (to me) that they finally got me LOLing with some of the writing for Jim Carrey's Robotnik. I am actually looking forward & hoping that they get to make a 4th movie for this series. All in all this is one of the best kid &/ video game adaptations I've seen.

I really feel like the movie should have been a little longer to help flesh out some of its more disjointed parts, but besides that I think it's a well animated heartfelt movie.

Excellent movie. Saw this with my co worker (Y) Here we get shadow's story. A lot of references in this movie. So basically Dr Egg man with his Grandfather are trying to destroy the earth with Shadow to seek revenge because Shadow lost a girl he really liked. Sonic & then Shadow obviously turns good save the day along with Tails & Knuckles.

Sonic Adventure 2 is one my favorite video games of all time, and I’m just amazed at how well these filmmakers were able to take that game’s iconic, yet bizarre, plot and create a great action-comedy. It’s also pretty cool that there were a few solid sentimental moments, subtle fan service for fans of the Sonic games and memes, and even a second Jim Carrey.

Carrey, again, is my favourite part of these Sonic films. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is reliably entertaining even if it isn't breaking any new ground. I found the 2nd film to be slightly stronger, but this film does a good job of upping the ante while introducing Reeves' Shadow. The film looks good in regards to the CG fight scenes, characters and set designs. I liked the music but it felt, at times, like it was being used as a crutch. Overall, a colourful, fun film that works well in this franchise.

I can't believe how much I enjoyed this dumb movie. Franchises are meant to get worse over time, not better. This was a textbook action, heist, and superhero movie all at once, with a lot of actually good humor (through the rapid fire comedy can get grating when it fails). I don't even care for the characters other than Jim Carrey's, but damn the space fight was some epic shit, looked so cool. Don't care for the end tease though, won't be the same without Jim Carrey.

Featuring the most elaborate plot and the most creative and ambitious action sequences of the three, it might just be the best in the trilogy.

After not really liking the second Sonic movie I’d say this was about as good as the first. Generic but well-done kids movie storyline and the humour, outside of one particular set-piece, is fine. Keanu as Shadow isn’t a revelation like Idris as Knuckles was but he does fine and Carrey is as fun as ever. With all the meme references they put in these things someone had better yell “Son, the hedge!” in the next one at some point.

The cheesy Sonic fun continues for a third time. More Jim Carrey, more furies. Sonic himself almost drown in it all, but I'm so happy they keep expanding this universe. Highlight was the Robotniks doing Chemical Brothers.

There's definitely enough here to push my rating up; Shadow's backstory alone has plenty of narrative juice. This, much like the previous two, is fun, funny, and visually solid, and to me, I think this third entry tells the best story of the trilogy, even if the way it's performed is sometimes uneven. Carrey still carries a huge amount of comedic weight for me as he's just OWNING the double-duty insanity. Sonic & Shadow on some DragonBall Z shit was one of the best fight scenes of the year.

The most ridiculous idea in the series to make a feature out of American films. Some pretty dark ideas for a children's film. Keanu Reeves' voice couldn't compete with Jim Carrey's, although Jim's jokes were mostly beyond the appropriate level of fun.

The third installement keeps things refreshing by adding another character fans have been clamoring to see since Day One. It also provides a tragic enough back story that provides the entire pain for the movies main plot. Of course it can't dive too deep and keeps the overall tone light hearted and fan which keeps the kids from tuning it. A post credits scene gives us the future of the franchise and it was a fun ride through this journey. Jim Carrey is a blast as always.

It is a thrilling ride that captures the heart of the franchise while delivering high-octane action and favorite characters. Shadow steals the show, and the respect for the game’s lore is commendable. But some parts of the movie feel rushed, while others drag on too long. Certain characters don’t get the attention they deserve, and the movie’s tone shifts in ways that might feel a bit off. For fans, it’s a must-watch, but casual viewers may find themselves wishing for a more balanced adventure.

It’s cool how the Sonic movies went from the ugly disgrace of a movie to a franchise that just crossed a billion dollars. And this is a high point. It’s a little kid-y, but still definitely has it’s merits for adults. Probably especially if they follow the games. Good animated action, and TWO show-stealing performances from Jim Carey. That’s a recipe for button-mashing fun.
