It's odd that Bulworth never entered the cultural lexicon the way that quotes from Network (a film that obviously influenced it) did. Like in Lumet's film we see a hero on a journey to shake up the establishment via caustic wit & truth telling. But Bulworth's pointed commentary on how institutions fail people is stronger. Over 20 years later, we've yet to fully grapple with his prescient criticisms on racism, socialism, & the media. And it still holds up as funny as hell! Highly recommended!

It took Beatty's star power to get this scathing political indictment to the masses. Shame it was ignored so much.

I love this movie, not because of it's politics but because of it's humour. There's just so much to laugh about throughout the entire running time. Warren Beatty plays Bulworth perfectly and Halle Berry also turns in a good role... Okay, I also like the politics.

Warren Beatty writing, staring, and directing this well done satire about a politician who loses it and decides to speak exactly what is on his mind. It is the serious-yet-comedic attitude of the movie that really allows it to shine.

Bulworth is a movie with a powerful message that has been ignored for too long in America. The story of a suicidal congressman who finds a reason to live by actually telling the truth. Bulworth does a good job of showing all of the problems with our society in a entertaining and enjoyable way. There are flaws of course but there are a lot of poignant moments in this film as well. The casting in the movie was outstanding. I really enjoyed Don Cheadle's character - a very complicated character

Star and director Beatty's ambitious take on race and politics in 20th-century America isn't perfect, but manages to provide more than its share of thought-provoking laughs.

Beatty's stab at the Democratic Party's drift towards neo-liberalism that has created a widening chasm between the haves and have nots that continues to grow unabated. Liberal actors preaching on soapboxes aren't rare in Hollywood, but few have produced a work as direct and confrontational as Bulworth, a flawed but funny excoriation of corporatised American politics. Beatty is very amusing as a truth telling politician, and he paints a timely tragi-comic treatise of a thoroughly broken system.

A little too preachy in places, and yes, some of Bulworth's raps made me cringe. Otherwise, this movie worked for me in every way, even the romance. It feels really cohesive and tight, and that's impressive considering what a cultural mashup it is. Beatty's performance is terrific; I love that creepy laugh, and especially the scene when he won't stop messing with his opponent during the debate. I'd LOVE to see a politician really do this, so I think the film is a lot of fun.

Terrific cast make this a complete blast from start to finish. Beatty is excellent and there are several moments that are either perfect cinema (the dance scene) or laugh out loud funny (the pimped up car). sure its preachy, and as a white guy I don't really now if it goes too far in stereotyping or patronising black culture, but if we cant all laugh at ourselves, what hope is there ? Halle Berry is underused, but totally hot and the rest of the cast, well, simply perfect casting.

One of those you wish it were true things. Lots of swearing, only occasional use of Halle's smoldering sensuality, & lots of caustic political preaching. Should play well on video, & appeals to a crossover audience.

I caught this on TV and expected it to be horrible (Politician starts talking jive?) But it was actually an intelligent look at the fact that the Democratic Party (the self-professed liberal party) is still not doing near enough to help out the impoverished and the oppressed. Completely random ending though.

Beatty tackles an interesting subject - how the Democratic Party is more interested in campaign contributions than black votes. It's a bit of a mess, and I had an uncomfortable feeling of cheering on what he was saying, but cringing at how he was saying it. Still, a movie like this should make you feel uncomfortable. And it made me laugh.

BULWORTH has its flaws: its portrayal of urban culture, especially early on, doesn't ring true (it was clearly written by four white men), and its political satire is, all in all, pretty obvious. But it's also a hell of a lot of fun, with Beatty having an absolute blast rapping, partying, and raising a ruckus, with some great support from Oliver Platt, Don Cheadle, and Amiri Baraka (Halle Berry is stuck with the weakest role, however); and for all its faults, the script is frequently hilarious.

Bulworth works like a scream of agitated comedic mania. It's about a sort of prototypical figure who appears more and more to signify the cyclical American condition: the guy who's mad as hell and isn't going to take it anymore. Interesting, how in the decades since we heard those words in Network, we've completely ignored why they were said.

I suppose this is more fantasy than satire -- but it's a hell of a fantasy, one that I imagine is hugely cathartic for many. Beatty is absolutely fun, with his character's predicament giving him a lot of room to goof around on a political and existential level. Given how much worse the mechanics of US politics and campaigning has gotten, such a film now feels illegal.

Fascinating companion piece to Sorry to Bother You, which is essentially the better opposite: A successful, rich, white actor makes a film about a successful, rich, white politician coming to save America by completely co-opting black culture, which he has no understanding of, and individual black characters' ideas, which he has no understanding of, overnight - and apparently the results don't matter to the film. Funny in parts, and so, so terrible in other ways. Strange.
