Prison has changed me. I understand the common man the way I never did before. I gotta get out of here! So I can bring joy to the men back in here, but I don't wanna live with them!

It really ticks off all the plot points we've seen in every biopic about famous entertainers: the booze, the drugs, the cheating, the divorce, the dark times, the comeback, the going back in time to kill Hitler... But just because we've seen it all before doesn't mean it's not worth a look. Phoenix is great, and the music. Oh god, the music. Don't expect any shocking insights into the Cash persona though.

Not entirely dissimilar from watching a soccer mom "let loose". While the performances r fine, there's not a lick of newness2 a story everyone's seen on Behind The Music 150 billion times. Cash's life seems to have played out almost EXACTLY the way you'd expect (humble beginnings to..Oh u know!), only in an infinitely more pedestrian way than we're used 2 seeing from rock stars. Take the standard rock star biopic& replace the unpredictable, suprising extremes w/ way 2 much banality & u get this

Walk the Line is a great movie with terrific acting from both Phoenix and Witherspoon. The musical performances were outstanding, and the story was very heartbreaking. If you don't like Johnny Cash, Walk the Line is worth it to watch just for the performances. Great film!

Now I'm going to be honest, I've always thought of Witherspoon as just a pretty face to sell movies but this film has completely changed my opinion. The real reason to see this film is the acting by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. They're both amazing and I couldn't believe that Joaquin actually sang all the Johnny Cash covers for the film, he imitates Cash impeccably. However, the movie itself feels too short. The chunk of Cash's life feels so small that I would've liked to see more.

Absolute and utter nonsense. He doesn't keep a close watch on his heart at all! And if he's supposed to keep his eyes wide open all the time, why did you cast Joaquin Phoenix? Ridiculous.

Fantastic. Witherspoon is brilliant and Jaoquin captures Johnny Cash like you're watching the man himself. The fact that they sang all the songs themselves adds to the impressiveness of the film. See this movie.

It may not make sense at time and for a biopic about Johnny Cash, ignoring "Ring Of Fire" is near criminal. But strong performances from the leads and one of the most top-tapping soundtracks ever redeem this film and then some. Bit too cosy about details to be a true great.

I wanted to like this bio-pic more than I actually did. Unfortunately, the film paled in comparison to the music, which was the real shining star. The movie just...about 30 minutes could easily have been shaved out of its running time, and it felt far more ponderous than enjoyable. Still, worth seeing for the luminous Reese Witherspoon and the music, oh, the music!

The best thing about this movie is that it is still a great picture, even if you don't know anything about Johnny Cash. So i can certainly imagine this is a fantastic film if you are a true J.C fan. And now I can finally forgive Reese Witherspoon for her horrible performance in Legally fucking Blonde, because she was absolutely wonderful in this one.

Over-rated! clap clap clapclapclap! Johnny Cash's life could not have been this boring; I don't believe it. Notice that most of these glowing reviews mention the "strong performances". And yeah, I'll buy that to a degree. But outside of that, there's not much of interest here. I really can't get over how DULL they made Cash, when the real man was anything but. A big time miss for something that should have been much better.

[extended cut] Completely 'by the numbers' musical biopic elevated by great performances from both Phoenix and Witherspoon. Technical credits are very solid, musical performances are great. The only aspect of the film that is lacking is the plot; it is simply not challenging enough.

Suffers from the biopic disease, with all of the japping through greatest moments of it's subjects life, that this normally entails. But much like Cash himself, it is saved by the engrossing love story, helped along nicely by Witherspoon's stellar performance.

Joaquin Phoenix definitely defined his career with this film. Reese Witherspoon was given the perfect dramatic role for her. It just turned out good. It was longer than I thought it should have been, but all in all a good film.

I love both Reese and Joaquin and this movie didn't hurt that opinion at all. First of all both of them sang exceptionally well in this movie. Secondly they have great chemistry. Thirdly the acting was wonderful: you can really tell that both of the actors put all their effort and ability into this and it paid off. I didn't know a thing about Johnny Cash before but this movie enlightened me.

I can't complain too much about this film, since there was nothing in it that's terribly annoying or bad. I can't even say it was dull (a few parts were, but not that bad). It just didn't deserve all the hype. It's your standard rock n' roll biopic, nothing special about it.

Really strong music-bio pic that is a step above "Ray" in quality, mostly because the two leads are fantastic and do their own impressive singing. Reese Witherspoon more than deserved her first Oscar. And this movie has only made my obsession with her grow. Still, Joaquin Phoneix deserves major props for his equally great performance.

Outstanding acting, great music, drug problems. Walk the Line's got everything it takes to be a dime-a-dozen musician biopic. I personally find it uninteresting and overdone. I will, however, acknowledge that it is a very well made film. Pretty good!

Now don't get me wrong, but I can't stand Reese Witherspoon, I think she looks like a cartoon duck without a bill, but she is great in this movie. When I heard Phoenix and Witherspoon as Cash and Carter, I think my initial reaction was..."WHAT!?!?!?!!?!?!?!" But the director was right. Phoenix was fantabulous as Cash. He transformed himself in ways that maybe a handful of actors will accomplish in their whole career. The way is posture and voice change progressively throughout the movie

It should have been better, and would have, if the film had given a more honest rendering of the fallout from the first marriage. Instead, the film lionizes the Cash and Carter relationship while forgetting about Cash's previous wife and kids. As a result, the film is emotionally dishonest in one major way, even if it does have a great soundtrack.

Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon play a very convincing Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Fans of Cash will not be disappointed and those who have never taken interest in Cash's music or life will be captivated by the story and songs, which are completely redone(quite wonderfully actually) by Phoenix and Witherspoon. You will definitely not be sorry to put this one on your library shelf.
