I stand by this film no matter what anyone says. It's a Princess Bride for the new century: witty dialogue, countless smart historical references, and an enjoyable story simply because it's so classic. And who can resist jousting + Queen?

I ain't even care, I fuckin' love this movie. I love the stupid anachronisms. I love the goofy characterization of Geoffrey Chaucer. I love the by-the-numbers low class dude rising to glory through sheer force of will (GET IT? HIS NAME IS WILL!) plot. I love how impossibly gorgeous Shannyn Sossamon and Laura Fraser and Berenice Bejo are. It's just one of Those Movies that does a ton of things perfectly for me when it had no right to do so. [Extended Cut] Utter magic from the get-go. More times than I can count, I have weighed this film, I have had it measured, and have never once found it wanting. Its comedy is gold, its action immersive, its music stirring, its emotions resounding, its performances faultless (Paul Bettany performs his bare ass off). Peak cinema.

There are things wrong with this movie, most of them having to do with the romantic subplot. But there are so much more right with it. Great pace, (mostly) great actors, great lines and gratuitous shots of Paul Bettany's backside. Underrated.

Hits all the right feel-good notes, with its rock 'n roll-infused medieval sports underdog storyline nestled within a moving rags-to-riches tale featuring a memorable cast of secondary characters surrounding Ledger's stubborn but likeable William (Bettany's charismatic Chaucer and Tudyk's fiery Wat are particular standouts). Passionate romance and a bevy of deliciously dramatic or humorous moments and one-liners round out this unabashedly straight-forward piece of cinematic candy.

I'm confused; did I just watch a romantic comedy with jousting or an action movie with British accents, very pretty men and more of Paul Bettany than I'm comfortable with? Does it work? You be the judge, but it's worth seeing just to display almost as many medieval anachronisms as "Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves".

It's simply a fun take on knights in shining armour. Cheesy in parts for romance, goofy in parts for the sake of comedy with some decent action scenes throughout. Honestly I thought it worked out well and turned out to be pretty entertaining. Not great but entertaining.

An old favorite. Grew up with this one. This is my first time "properly" reviewing it, although this will be far from exhaustive. It's a really fun mix of asynchronous elements. The music, dialogue, and blocking are at times modern and at times attempting to model the period. The moments when this movie attempts to inject heart are its weakest and most distracting. Ultimately, it's a film that has a special place in my heart, but not one that's truly great in anyway.

A fine fairy-tale set in a non-accurate, but very entertaining historical setting. I can easily recommend this to anyone, no matter what your current mood is. It has romance, it has period flavor, lots of manly sport events and also a good bunch of humor. Who doesn't like this? :-)

Irritating stab at the anachronistic stylings of the early aughts; Helgeland never settles on a consistent tone for his material (is it a send-up or are we expected to become truly invested in the drama?) which creates a distance between the film and the audience; the "modern" soundtrack becomes a trivial distraction because Helgeland does absolutely nothing with the conceit, ultimately rendering it pointless. Ledger and Bettany are fun, but they are stuck pushing wreckage up a hill.

A Knight's Tale is just a ton of fun. What could have been a boring period piece about a knight's squire who sees a future in the stars and falls in love with a noblewoman actually is a fun, exciting movie about all those things. The choice to use a modern rock-n-roll soundtrack to capture the fun and excitement of medieval times was a stroke of genius. Never have I seen a film that was fueled by it's soundtrack more than this movie. The cast is the next piece that makes this movie a classic.

A Knight's Tale is not a movie that goes for historical accuracy, a serious plot, or even a very believable romance. It is however a lot of fun. I enjoy this movie every time I watch it. The idea of someone going higher than their station, the humor, the chemistry of the actors, the obviously evil bad guy it all just works so well together. If you're looking for a super serious medieval movie, this isn't it. If you're looking for a medieval inspired movie that's a lot of fun give it a try.

I like a good period piece as much as the next guy, but there is just so many deficiencies here to make this great. First off, what a ridiculous soundtrack, and secondly too much goofy humour and at the same time trying to be serious, pick one or the other. On the plus, it all is filmed well and is actually quite entertaining. I thought Sewell and Bettany were especially good in their roles.

In some ways, it works. Ledger gives it his all, which helps, and the supporting cast do their part as well. The medieval setting is enjoyable, and the contrast between it and the modernized soundtrack also works well. But, the story is far from perfect and could've been handled better. Many scene transitions are choppy, several characters feel flat, and ultimately not enough really happens to justify the 2+ hour runtime. Worth a watch for the novelty alone, but maybe not worth two.

This review may not be as objective as I supposed to. A Knight's Tale is one of my favorite. I remember the first time I watched it with my father, it was so heart-wrenching and warming at the same time. I really love the potrait of Sir Ulrich. He is so full of hunger, spirit, and willingness to change his star, just like a young man. And I'm proud that it was potrayed by the great Heath Ledger. The first time I watched it, I was cried when William met his blind-father in his house.

I began to watch this movie expecting a classic medieval heroic tale, and was happily surprised to find out that it's a really and absurdly funny movie as well. Lots of stuff are absolutely not historical, and there's a lot of sap, as is expected in those movies, but there's also lots of jokes and cool moments. And I just lover the funny and long speeches of the herald.

I like the way a couple of guys climb there way to fame by disguising their friend to be a celebrity. What was truly amazing about this was how easily a couple men and a guy on the side of the road are able to trick a crowd of people into believing who they aren't in the middle ages.

Helgeland ditches the ultra-serious tone of his previous (and future as well) works with this farcical, cookie-cutter rags to riches tale of love and pride and other things most movies are about. Rufus Sewell glues the film together with his ultra-cutthroat performance and the supporting cast (Bettany, Addy, Tudyk) keep things light, fluffy and entertaining.

The anachronisms are a bit fun up until they start doing product placement, which happens just as the script dives into cliches. Bettany's got a fun role, but Ledger is given nothing to do but stand around and look pretty. And he does that well, but it's far below what he could give, and deserved.

It's pretty, silly, and funny. Sometimes that's enough for a movie. And it's not like it's taking advantage of some marginalized culture, so I don't see a problem with the jokes that don't land well. The romance could have been way better. At times, their dialogue was outright dreadful. That's the main downside for me. And, of course, royalty showing up to save the day is always meh - but it's on par for most fairytales.
