The smart screenplay is the element that elevates this film from a normal satire. Eckhart carries the movie and does a fine job, with scene-stealing perfromances by Bello and Elliot in the best parts of the movie.

This movie is positively hilarious. One of the best if not the best satires I have ever seen in my life. Aaron Eackhart is fantastic and Rob Lowe is brilliant! In fact everyone in this movie is great. Sadly it drags ever so slightly during the final 20 minutes or so.

Pretty funny, although rarely uproarious. Aaron Eckhart elevates everything he touches, but conversely Katie Holmes diminishes everything she touches. Fortunately, she's not in that many scenes. I felt like the film was a bit smug about its moral ambivalence, but I suppose that's better than preachiness.

Amusing, but rather self-satisfied. Reitman seems to think he is being ever so subtle as he trojans his message within a vessel of faux cynicism. He's not. In some ways though that doesn't matter, as Eckhart truly carries this film with his brilliant performance. So, watch it for Eckhart, and ignore the buzzing distraction of everything around him.

Hilarious, if not a bit short. Well, actually, its running time is average, but oh how I wish it was longer. The supporting cast is magnificent, but they are essentially each given one scene to steal and then we move on to the next character. Some of them, like Rob Lowe, deserve more. But it's not their movie, it's Aaron Eckhart's, and he really shines in it. The movie is clever and funny, stylish without being overly flashy. Jason Reitman looks like he's got quite a career ahead of him.

Has some good moments (I always love me some 4th wall breakin') but it isn't sharp enough to be a great satire and felt too 'safe' throughout. Eckhart and Simmons make it worth a watch, but Holmes and 'that kid' were buzzkills.

Unfortunately for the movie, I'd already seen Age of Cannibals and liked that much more. I appreciate that this is more accessible but frankly, I wish I was watching that Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones movie they're talking about.

One of my favourite movies with an outstanding ensemble cast led by Eckhart who is so perfectly cast for this role it's like it was written for him. This movie excels at making you root for the bad guy and that's what I love about it, this guy is such an anti-hero and yet you end up loving him. A wonderful satire of the entire cigarette and other dangerous industries.

Really engaging look at some fascinating characters, Eckhart's character specifically. Very funny movie about a serious subject, the ending moral is not at all righteous or hypocritical towards either side, but actually fair-minded. That aside, the directing is fantastic and the entire cast is brilliant.

Great and very smart movie. I didn't really know what to expect from this one but it really surprised me! Great everyday scenes with such a perfect and smart touch you have to like it. Daring and satirical, great acting and a fine story without being too moralizing, this is a must see!

i had no idea this was a satire until reading the summary...but anyway i loved this movie, and i think big tobacco is demonized way too much and it would be great if every once in a while they could fight back. this movie does just that, until the end, but cut off the last part there and you've got yourself a great movie.

This satirical movie about a lobbyist for the tobacco company plays more like a regular comedy. It's a pretty good comedy with a few laughs and a lot of "smiles". It stays pretty balanced on the somking issue without offending anyone, but this also causes the movie to be a bit shallow - not much satire. Overall it's a pretty fun movie but is unlikely to spark any heated debates.

It has that annoying "we're gonna turn this controversial subject upside down - ho-ha-he-ho-ha-he-ho-ha"-vibe. But I guess it's an okay movie. Eckhart is always charming, and it has one classic scene, in which smoking in space is discussed.

The writing is way too tame--so tame that all the attempts at comedy basically fail and ultimately this film can hardly be called satire. Entirely forgettable. Go watch Lord of War (2005) instead.

OK. But I hate stuff that doesn't pick a side. Or does South Park-esque "oh well both sides are stupid" bs, like this movie. Pick a side already. It's either the lady or the tiger. It can't be both, or nothing. Because it's either a third object, or a tiger and a dead lady.

What a sneaky movie. By sympathizeing the villain you end up rooting for the good guyes, against the tobacco industry. A very enjoyable movie with a clear moral goal, with out a slightest feeling of the anoying preacing.

Meh. I wanted to like this, because god knows how much I hate cigarettes. But this had that Sorkin feel where the protagonist appears smart only because everyone around him acts dumb. Characters are either cardboard cutouts that exist solely for the plot or are just plain ridiculous. The result is that everything in this movie feels counterfeit, which lessens any insight it could have about the real world. All that would be fine for a comedy, but it just didn't feel like a comedy to me.

Thank You for Smoking is a compact and fun little satire that easily gets its point across while also being more unbiased than movies of this nature often are. Aaron Eckhart is a great lead, and could possibly sell anything to anyone. Other characters come and go as they please, and the film feels like more of a collection of skits than anything else. It's still good fun, and it'll definitely make its mark on you after it's finished.

Reitman, who gave us Juno two years later, has been building up his success with a series of movies that make us think long and hard while also making us laugh. I loved Thank You for Smoking - as corrupt, twisted and unusual as it was, it has a place in modern day cinema, and is something new and fresh to the world.

I read the book around the same time I watched the film. I usually try to separate adaptations from their source material but this film manages to capture the mood of the book almost perfectly. There are changes, many changes, but no change to what the story is all about.
