I'm pretty sure I walked out of this movie towards the end, but I'm not even totally sure, it was that forgettable. The action is dull and slow, I didn't care about any of the characters, and the story is totally senseless.

I watched this for work. Midway I had a zoom call with technical support who needed to do some stuff on my computer. When done he asked if there'd be anything else. I jokingly suggested that he could stay on and watch 'Paycheck' with me. The response was: "Yeah... not John Woo's finest work, is it?" I watched the ending alone.

- might want to skip this one :: This could have been a great sci-fi movie, but Woo's generic action sequences seemed way out of place and used up the time that could have been utilized to make the movie work. And maybe if someone bothered to make it smart instead of dumb the actors wouldn't have phoned in their performances. :: unrealized potential

While it's certainly understandable that how Affleck and Thurman would be attracted to a nifty idea for a movie, it's too bad that poor production values, a lackluster script and a director asleep at the wheel bring this one down. One would gather that Woo's attraction to this bad sci-fi actioner didn't extend far beyond the film's title.

Another Phillip K. Dick movie, with shades of Total Recall. It has a really cool concept, and I like the cast (yes, even Affleck)...which just makes the finished product that much more disheartening. This movie couldn't be any more by the numbers, and Woo has lost his touch completely in the director's chair. It feels like everyone's just showing up to collect a...well, you know. B.C. Transit hasn't been this evil since Final Destination -- watch out Ben, SkyTrain's comin' for YOU!

After a second viewing, 8-9 years after my first, I've come to the conclusion, that it is a pretty bad movie. Poor script, bad directing, and no chemistry what so ever between Affleck and Thurman. It passes the time, but only with absolutely nothing else to do. - Bad.

It was...okay? Much as I like John Woo, he's not the guy to take a big sci-fi concept like this to, I think. There were a lot of neat philosophical questions (like in The Island) that go unasked due to the need for more action scenes (also like in The Island).

Enjoyable action film has an intriguing central idea, which (disappointingly) isn't developed as well as the best Dick adaptations, but this is still a cut above the standard actioner, thanks to winning and likable performances from Affleck and Thurman, and Woo's stylish direction. Third act turns a bit gluggy and sluggish, especially once the conclusion becomes obvious, but the mechanical claw makes up for that.

This movie is LOOSELY based on the Phillip K. Dick story. But there are significant differences. This has turned into a cross between Terminator 2 and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Affleck is better than average, but Thurman was sleepwalking. Giamatti adds just enough comic relief to lighten the movie. Overall, better than expected.

Despite all its flaws, Paycheck still works as a movie. It's silly and entertaining, with visuals that still hold up, eleven years later. With a different main cast and a few tweaks to the script it might have reached the level of Philip K. Dick's other movies, like Blade Runner or Minority Report. As it stands, though, it's a solidly average movie.

It ruins a promising premise with bad acting, silly dialogue, dull characters, pointless action scenes, and a dumbed-down script that has no characterization and is riddled with both cliches and plot-holes. Between this and the Windtalkers, I don't know what has happened to John Woo.

This movie although feeled with reeling action and lots of suspense was in the end a total bust. The plot for the movie was original and gripping, but the acting for a movie that was as taught with action and thrill was not best suited for the cast brought in. This film leaves much to be desired for those of tastes that want their movies to be cohesive throughout. It is however worth a dollar rental, but if you have no desire to see it you will not be missing much.

Movies based on the sci-fi stories of Philip K. Dick have either blasted their way into cultural consciousness (Blade Runner, Minority Report, Total Recall) or crashed and burned with dynamic fury (Imposter). Dick's tales usually focus on an everyman swept up in an extreme set of futuristic circumstances that require the audience to suspend a whopping portion of disbelief. Precognition. Memory erasure. Time travel. (pluggedin.com)

Affleck tries on an action hero role, but his '50s football player build never quite gels with gun play and bo staffs somehow. But this is all American Woo, blowin' up the labs, having stylish gun faceoffs, all shiny plastic and chrome. It's an action movie of course, and it really shouldn't be; PK Dick deserves better, and it doesn't make us feel an ounce of the post-apocalyptic dread that supposedly inspired our hero to jump headfirst into this mess. Instead, we get MacGyver with flashbacks.

Casting Ben Affleck as some kind of genius is possibly the most extreme form of suspended disbelief as you can make it. It's laughably absurd. This film has cemented him as the worst highly paid actor of the modern era. He can't act! The script is amateur at best, that is if there actually was one and the whole thing wasn't improvised by Affleck himself. If you want typical Hollywood garbage, look no further. I can't imagine Dick would have thought any differently about his loose adaptation.

Let's make a film where instead of using a Deus Ex Machina feels like a slap to the face because we can't write a better story, we flip it on its head and have a whole bag of Deus Ex Machinas that we can use whenever we need one! Conceptually it could have been a good film, but it's execution is fuzzy and shallow. The whole memory erasing thing, on reflection after the films is over, feels like an unsatisfying way to lead in to the main story.
