High quality and an intriguing first season are all but wasted by the second and third. Audiences that are paying attention (and perhaps taking notes) will realize they're given more convoluted nonsense than actual substance. Many of the poor plot decisions are obviously contrived for shock value, but overuse and inconsistency render them mostly ineffective. The dry, humorless, unlikable cast adds to the disappointment of what would have been an amazing series in the hands of better writers.

I got really tired of the terrible sound effects. It was also unpleasant that most of the story is made up of riddles inside riddles. I very much disliked how this movie is put together. There were several very brief moments of brilliance but always those moments are surrounded by disjointed and segmented subplots. It jumps around far too often and has too many unresolved paradoxes that ruin the immersion. It's a very heavy-handed production. Sometimes interesting, but ultimately not worthwhile.

Pretty durchwachsen. Partially awesome, partially retarded. Shitty ending. Got some really cool German actors in it I've never heard of. Not that I've heard of many. Once saw Anne Ratte-Polle in a play in 2009 or so. She was amazing. Still a fan.

German creepy 80's nostalgia similar to Donnie Darko mixed with Twin Peaks & Chernobyl, although there is an appropriately Teutonic lack of humor about the proceedings. Great soundtrack but the ambient score is often obnoxiously loud and overbearing. Score would be higher if the characters were more distinctive and allowed more time to breathe, rather than serving the beats of the plot. Also season 3 is a fairly big disappointment; S1 & S2 would get about 85 while S3 is maybe 50.

S1 set up an interesting story and was great, S2 followed up on that promise for the most part until the last few minutes of the ending and then S3 comes in, undermines everything this series tried to do and make us care about. I personally wouldn't recommend investing time into this show because none of the characters are really developed at all, it resorts to torture porn and subverting expectations in the cheapest way possible in the last season, comparable to how terrible GoT's S8 was.

I will rant and rave about how amazing this series is until the day I die. It's impossible to really describe. It is one of the few TV series that might get better with each repeat viewing. Dark manages to capture all the mystery and interconnectedness and storytelling of a TV show like Lost, and instead of disappointing, nails it right on the fucking head. The show could have used longer seasons to develop characters more, slower pacing, and there were some fluff plot twists, but overall A+

I liked the first season, but the show drags and gets increasingly overcooked, overly tangled and ridiculous. I kept expecting for someone to proclaim they're their own grandmother from another dimension. I quit halfway through season 3 because of sheer boredom.

I endured till S02E01. Too much atmosphere, too little substance. It very much wants to be the next Twin Peaks, but even Lost is better. +1 for Agnes Obel's music (as much as cinema in the style of a music video clip gets on my nerves).

Time-travel done in an interesting way with some fantastically morbid and paradoxical results, like a mother birthing her own mother. The production is pretty great with some uniformly good cinematography and decent use of CGI. The casting is uncanny, able to age and de-age characters in an incredibly believable way and mostly good performances from everyone. I was never really that emotionally invested. The labyrinthine plot buckles under it's own weight and the series ends with a whimper.

It has a million bugs and got really out of hand at points, but in the end, the circle was completed / broken neatly. I'll remember this as a decent attempt for a Netflix show.

Slow pacing plot tail chasing maze with non-convincing behaviour of characters and abundant ominuous music in normal situations. Characters are not developed enough and events don't make much effect. Also sprinkled with cliche B movie scenes such as meaningless sex scenes and actors faces covered in blood for no reason. I still finished it... because I was too annoyed by episodes never providing enough information. Watching show out of annoyance, not the best.

S1: 70 | S2: 60 | S3: 60 | Pretty enjoyable if you put in the attention. Also, unpopular opinion, but S2 unfortunately introduces a lack of importance in 95% of the events we see, and the fact that most future decisions from the characters are just wasted efforts. Here’s to hoping that S3 breaks that mold somehow. Edit: for the most part, it doesn’t, and when it does, it’s still not nearly as good as S1. Would’ve been better if S2&3 were merged into one.

Incredibly intricately worked out series that becomes almost impossibly complicated and convoluted by the final episodes of the third season. Maintains a single tone of tragic melancholy across the whole journey and consistent for all the characters, which is both a plus (that's life) and a minus (it's kind of exhausting). Everything is meant to be extremely significant, but it is all cleverly constructed so that the years 1933 to 1945 never need be mentioned. The effort, though, is commendable.

I was somewhat disappointed to see in the final episodes that this was going to be a series, I'd prefer a tight self contained story. Main question is whether the time travel is going to go non-deterministic or not, or if the show will become a bunch of nonsense like time travel tends to do if not carefully planned out (though granted real unlimited time travel also would make reality incoherent nonsense also, but interesting stories are the point of entertainment). Update- season 2 half filler

Extremely convoluted plot, but in the end it all makes sense. All knots are removed and it is really hard to find big plot holes - remember that this a time-travelling series so it usually makes it really hard for the creators to avoid simplifying stuff or omitting explanations. Each season be the last one from the series with no harm to the story. Season 3 introduces too many new concepts, unnecessarily. Could have been a masterpiece if season 3 was just less.

Disappointing. Characters are too quickly introduced, not compelling enough. Plot isn't gripping enough despite the events featured. Time travel shenanigans displayed here were already used to better effect in previous works; reveals are often predictable. S1 & the 1st half of S2 are more like a crime/thriller series than scifi and S3 is an AU. Interesting characters ignored. No care/consequences about nuclear radiation exposure. Too much Inception Horn. Nice opening credits, tough.

(TV) S1/2: quietly one of my favourite shows on TV. As its name suggests, dark and brooding stuff, with some retro sci-fi flair, and a cut above the usually overwrought euro dramas in all aspects, esp. acting and production design. I appreciate both the languid world-building and characterisation, and at the same time, willingness to employ bonkers plotlines and sequences | S3: convoluted plot now req. a spreadsheet. Points for bravery, but too all-in on nonsense, less drama. | S1:77 S2:78 S3:68

S1 and most of S2 are really wonderful, dark and deep. But S3... jesus. It is just bland, repetitive and completely unengaging. And the pacing is way off. For most of the season nothing happens. And then in the last episode they suddenly learn what they must do, and they also do it in that same episode, no problems whatsoever. The end! It is frustrating because the series showed so much promise in the beginning, but now I really cannot recommend it for anyone.

1st season, very good: good slow pace, makes the viewer ask questions / theorize on the events, keeping them on the edge of the seat. 2nd season, ok. Already starting to repeat the same motifs by several characters... Still keeping things interesting. 3rd season, difficult to watch. The story begins to disintegrate - I lost all interest in the characters and their fates. Even while I am interested in finding out The Catch of the show, I find it agonising to finish the episodes.

A partially great show and a partially terrible show. The story I like a lot. However, it's very confusing and I've had to watch a few episodes twice. My biggest complaint are the actions/direction of the characters. The young kid and dad never do anything to help their situations, Jonas always jumps/sits up at 90 degrees after each nightmare, everyone needs to tell someone something but they never get to say it. Just doesn't seem like realistic reactions from the characters.

Clearly very influenced by Donnie Darko, both in terms of story and cinematography, evident in the long sequences of shots of the multiple characters with melancholic music at the end of each episode. It's nicely built, but unfortunately, when it could become intelligent and self-reflecting, it chooses to go for some pseudo-scientific BS.
