A dated, single-minded stab at the female population. I'm sure most of the original target audience has long since graduated (or devolved?) to watching Lifetime movies. Too iconic to be justly forgotten, but tastes have changed too much for it to have become a rite of passage. Too cringeworthy to enjoy. Too irritating to forget. It occupies a no man's land where everyone seems to know about it, but no one should watch it.

Dirty Dancing is a film set for the classics. Its set in a rich community where an individuals appearance is more important than their character. The main flaw I recognized in this film was the awkward relationship between Baby and Johnny. Johnny's character seems to be too mature for his relationship with Baby. The movie left me feeling weird and dissatisfied.

Tonally all over the place, inconsistent, detached from any reality whatsoever, overdone yet underwhelming, at times nauseating and puzzling to this very day. It comes as no surprise that these are the exact words I'd use to describe women.

What's that film where Patrick Swayze plays a paedophile? "Err... Donnie Darko of course", I hear you say. No you fools it's 'Dirty Dancing'! Keeping lonely housewives moist between the knees for over 20 years, this steaming pile of shit has unfortunately developed an annoying longevity. It also has to pointed out that "Hungry Eyes" is quite possibly the worst song ever written, and I'm sorry if you've not seen "Donnie Darko" and I've ruined a reveal for you... but I don't actually care.

Cornered the market on quotable lines about corners. It's not my favorite joke but this was a thousand times more appropriate than my "Jennifer Grey eventually removed the corners from her nose" attempt.

I went in with no expectation of liking this, so maybe my positive reaction is overly enthusiastic, but I was honestly impressed. Yes, it's full of cliches and a predictable plot and is painfully intent on keeping all commentary as subtext, but that doesn't prevent the social commentary from being there and it's paired with surprisingly good performances and great dancing. It's at once terribly blunt and afraid to put itself out there and somehow I think that works to its advantage.

A fun soundtrack and a completely galvanising final scene can't blow the cobwebs off an otherwise tired, melodramatic plot; Grey and Swayze are neither skilled enough actors or have the requisite charisma (alone or with each other) to make the hackneyed material work. It's a shame the whole film couldn't have been pitched at the level of delirious ecstasy of the final scene, rather than the 90 minutes of self-serious moping that precedes it.

I'm really not the target audience for this film, but I'll try and be fair. The story is a little hard to get into, since the characters are stock. However, the dance montages are kind of entertaining. The soundtrack is a little distracting, though, as the movie is meant to take place in 1963, but the music is so very 80s.

It's easy to forget that this film is actually rather progressive and an interesting comment on class. I'd actually rate it higher, but the last scene almost completely ruins the movie - suddenly, they are dancing to an 80s song that comes out of nowhere.

The engine of this movie is that the leads are very attractive, have great chemistry and physical charisma, and the choreography and music are legendary. Outside of those core elements, though, there isn't much going on. The actual story is extremely basic and the dialogue is super hammy. It gets a little past being 'a dance movie,' but not by much. I also wonder if this is one of the only non-embarrassing examples of ending a movie with a 'dance party?'

Dirty Dancing is a definite guilty pleasure. There's no doubting that technically this is a poor film with a thin plot, a dreadful script and some equally cringe worthy performances and moments. However this film is elevated by the charisma of Patrick Swayze, the timeless soundtrack and the brilliantly choreographed dance sequences. Its hard to not love Patrick Swayze but Jennifer Grey is awful. And the soundtrack boasts classics from the likes of Otis Redding, Eric Carman & The Contours.

I can't say that I've had the time of my life, but baby, this movie was fun at times. I had the wrong idea about this film. I thought the whole thing was about dancing, but instead it was about a summer romance and being a bigger person and helping people out in a jam, even if it causes you an inconvenience in life. Patrick Sawyze has some serious moves on the dance floor and Jennifer Grey is a beautiful dance partner...

Yeah, one of those films that everyone seems to find overwhelmingly nostalgic. This being the first time I'd seen it, I felt nothing like that apart from that iconic last scene which EVERYONE knows about. I found it funny in places where I don't think it was intended and everything just fell kind of flat for me. Great music though even if it's not from the right era!

Just when you thought my cred couldn't get any lower (see my score for Biodome) i swoop down and totally dig a popcorn dancing melodrama! Gosh its just a FEEL GOOD movie, and i say that on a 2018 first viewing, nostalgia free. Swayze is great, definitely charismatic, the story is ehh but that just makes it easy viewing. I read the leads hated each other but they've got chemistry on screen. Plus there's some decent looking shots in there, fully competent direction. And damn i planned on hating it

I didn't know, this movie was this cute! It is such a tirelessly referred thing that I kinda made myself believe that I actually watched it sometime long ago (I didn't). Now, it has some fabulously bad acting and is not the most coherent movie. But the dance scenes are awesome, Swayze is a lean mean dancing, sex machine of a human specimen and the budding love thing is just... really cute. On the downside, most probably it broke many a back (guys who underestimated their girlfriends' weight).

A timeless film. Jennifer Grey was terrific. Unfortunately, she's turned out to be an underachiever. So this is about back alley abortions? Who knew? A pretty mediocre movie and the ending doesn't fit the tone of the film really. Amazing that they managed to get a tune from the 80's back then (including synth, which hadn't been invented yet), and it's miraculously goes from being a record to being played by a band. Bit dissapointed by that as they'd been pretty true to the period until that point Anyway, I don't really get the hype

One of the most popular movies of the 1980's, Dirty Dancing boasts a nice if sometimes anachronistic soundtrack, and some valiant work from Jennifer Grey. However, it firmly establishes Swayze as a terrible actor (only in Point Break does he save face), and is marred by mediocre writing: The dialogue is fair, but the plot is shallow and uninspired.
