There's about 30 characters in this and less than 8 are actually necessary. Actually, this entire movie is completely unnecessary.

An utterly charmless & humourless 90-odd minutes of by-the-numbers stereotypes, rehashed old jokes & stale unimaginative plotting. All the female characters are voiced by the same actress ('Sassy Blackchick' I believe her name is?) & the whole painful experience is the movie equivalent of Justin Bieber taking a shit on your face & then telling the world how awesome it was on twitter, Facebook & uploading a song about it to YouTube. That might make sense when you see it? Or not. Fuck do I care?

Worst writing of an animated film in recent memory. It's like the whole thing was written by consultants in a boardroom while looking at demographic trends and twitter keywords. The only mildly entertaining bits of this film are the siren sequence and the atlantis bit. The rest is truly painful to watch.

Seems to have been written by a random number generator selecting from common scenes in children's movies. There are some pretty shots, but there is nothing else good to say about it. Even the voice acting is grating and terribly cast. But hey, more characters and more celebrity voice talent means more licensed merchandise, right?! The vast majority of these characters have no business being in the film.

I've been out of the loop on Ice Age since the first film. I no longer feel bad about that fact after having seen this. Static characters, cookie-cutter story that starts, goes and ends nowhere. Impressive only because of how much voice talent (not to mention a few well-animated scenes) it manages to waste. Boring. I'm bored just talking about it.

An improvement over the preceding two, but nowhere near the heights of the original. Dinklage plays a mean villain (heh) and iceolating the original trio (though Granny's a nice addition) from the baggage they've collected in the preceding films is an effective move, but the longer the series goes on and the deeper they dive into his gross male stereotype, the more unwatchable Manny becomes.

The protective dad and wants-to-be-popular teen daughter drama couldn't be more bland, so the film does well to focus more on the high-seas adventure plot, which is predictable and simple but full of rambunctious action (see the ship hijacking), engaging secondary characters (Dinklage's captain is truly frightening; Sykes' senile granny hilarious), and wholly entertaining tangents (see the brilliant pirate shanty; Scrat's ever-escalating adventures to the core of the earth and Scratlantis).

Ice Age: Continental Drift could quite easily be mistaken for any of the other Ice Age sequels and this really is a money spinning franchise that has run out of ideas. The first film was reasonably enjoyable but the sequels have all been forgettable and repetitive. This fourth instalment is harmlessly watchable for kids and borderline tolerable for adults. The animation is impressive and Peter Dinkladge provides standout voice work for the menacing villain. Otherwise this completely forgettable.

Not long from now, I will have forgotten nearly every frame of 'Ice Age 4.' In fact, I swear I've seen this same movie before in another movie. But was it bad? No. Not at all. It was plenty amusing, with a few laughs, and at a brisk 80 minutes, who am I to care?

Saldanha steps away and the franchise seems fresh, with some nice villainy and the best beginning of the saga. Then, like every chapter, it kind of drags.

Can never take itself seriously except for its most cliche subplots, has a dull antagonist, a lot of stupid comic relief. It is truly an only-for-kids movie..What a shame, I loved the 3rd one.

Baseline watchable series entry, now well in to the law of diminishing returns established by the SHREK series - colourful and likable enough, with a good cast striving to help you forget how derivative (and unnecessary) the whole enterprise is. Dinklage has great fun as a slimy villain, but otherwise it's a shame that there is really little edge (or dramatic stakes) employed here - even Scrat seems to be phoning it in this time!

I prefer this to the previous instalment. I like how this kept to the "Ice" Age, something that Dawn of the Dinosaurs was missing. I thought this was relatively humourous, somewhat heartwarming, but definitely cute. The ending with the cast singing was pretty sweet also.

The fourth installment is pretty decent solid entertainment anyone can watch. The chemisry between the three main guys and Latifah is still pretty good. My only beef is enough characters already, the growing trend seems to be more is better (which is not a good trend).

The latest in the Ice Age series brings a -groan- motley crew of pirates into the mix, although crucially still concentrates on the original group of three (plus Sid's nan) and peppers enough chuckles to reassure fans the franchise hasn't lost itself completely yet. It's probably the weakest so far but if you've managed to sit through the previous three you'll tolerate this one too.

Very enjoyable family movie. Some of it was corny, but I had a good time. I love that so many of the voice actors are or were stand-up comedians, like Ray Romano, Wanda Sykes, Denis Leary, etc. I feel sad when I think about the next (few) installments, though. What's going to happen at the end of the ice age??

Robin Williams famously ad-libbed a considerable portion of his dialogue for Disney's Aladdin, with animators and script-writers working from Williams's recordings. Why didn't the Ice Age writers just turn the mics on and let Romano, Leary, Leguizamo, and Sykes cut loose as their animal characters, and write a script out of that? It would have been a hundred times more entertaining than what they gave us. Ice Age is drifting away from its strengths, and overpopulation is at fault.

None of the sequels have really been all that good. It was at least better than the third one though. The story was so predictable. It was absolutely full of kids movie cliches. They've introduced so many characters that most of them end up being totally superfluous. However, my favourites were newcomers like Wanda Sykes, Aziz Ansari and Peter Dinklage. It did have some pretty funny moments too. Not a waste of time or anything, but they're obviously running out of ideas.

Once again they were able to put out a fourth installment of this movie and it still is fun and fresh. I love the voice talent for these movies and I especially love the new cast members including Sean William Scott, J Lo, Alan Tudyk, Wanda Sykes, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg and Peter Dinklage. The continents are splitting apart forcing the heroes to get back to their families but they have to deal with the pirates first. It's zany and weird but I still love it, even four movies in.

A satisfactory addition to the franchise, albeit one that drops the quality a tad in comparison to the previous installment. In other words, it delivers the goods, but just without much variation. The very good performances of newcomers Wanda Sykes and Nick Frost add some spice to the proceedings, however the superficially effective, brainless, predictable and disappointing romantic and melodramatic thrills of the modern teenage rom-com abound - simply imagine mammoths instead of confused teens.

It's gotten to the point that movies like Ice Age are ones I can sit through, but that offer me little in terms of entertainment. Laughs? Absolutely. Emotional subject matter? Yes, albeit tacked on and completely superficial. Let's face it, these are movies for the kids and nothing more. Maybe it didn't help that I haven't seen the second or third movies, but even so, it wouldn't change the things about this movie that annoyed me. Some good voice acting, but some was terribly distracting. Meh.

Pretty, cute, and sometimes quite funny, but there's not really a whole lot to it. (However, the short that preceded it theatrically, Maggie Simpson in The Longest Daycare, is the best thing the Simpsons team have done this millennium, and is five minutes of perfection, up there with the best Pixar shorts.)
