Say 'cube' again. Say 'cube' again, I dare you, I double dare you motherfucker, say 'cube' one more Goddamn time !!! So it's got a nice concept...together with some terrible if not nerve-wracking acting, an eye rolling script and an abundance of corny lines ("let him go you nazi ! wtf ?!). Seriously guys, maybe those things didn't cloud your judgment, but it's bad. The whole film is like a wet dream for nerds: "yey, prime numbers, we're saved"...

I didn't overly enjoy it. It was recommended by a friend... The only thing this plot has going for it is the horror, suspense and logic. There are no outside elements, it is as if the whole movie takes place in one room. If you think you can love a movie based only on logic, this might be a good choice for you.

before "Saw" this kind of idea was considered nearly insane, i dont know how this movie pulled it off with this kind of budget, but it surely did, it is one of the greatest cross-horror genre movies to come out since "The Thing," even with some seriously stilted dialog and less the spectacular performances.

A good idea with a rendering that is wholly unsatisfying. Bad acting of cliche, unbelievable characters and every part of it is corny--the script is so unnatural and the arguments between characters are so painfully, painfully contrived. Shoots the shaggy dog and then gives none of the context you bore this crap for. Under no circumstances should you waste your time on this. Well, on to the sequel!

'Cube' has dated poorly, but still remains an above par sci-fi indie. What I enjoy the most is how the writers get that good sci-fi is not about explosions and fast changing alien scenery, it's essentially about philosophy; about who we are as a race, when faced with obstacles that challenges the mental fabric of who we are. Natali and Bijelic both get that it's essentially about the people. Sadly, what they don't really get is people.

Whereas too many low-budget sci-fi films (Cube came in for $350,000) try for epic scope and fail, this concentrates on making the best of what it's got by ensuring that the main set is worthy of a feature and that the gruesome effects are striking and original enough to give bite to the suspense.

I liked Cube. It had its problems, sure, but they didn't end up being that important when looking at the final product. Yes, the acting could have been much better, and having different types of environments would have been more visually appealing, but there's something to be said about the minimalistic approach that the filmmakers took in making a film that still ends up being as thrilling and intense as Cube is. I suggest giving a shot if you haven't already.

Fantastic idea for a film. Sure the acting isn't amazing, but the originality of the whole thing more than makes up for it. I love watching a film that is totally unlike anything I've seen before or am likely to see again. It's remarkable that they pulled this off using only a single room to shoot the whole thing.

Few movies had me clinging to the edge of my seat like this surreal horror thriller. A number of people wake up in a cube, connected on all 6 sides to other cubes, without any idea how they got there, or how to get out. The rooms have different colours, and some of them traps. Each character plays a different role in the group, and the tensions between the characters can almost be felt, as they know they're running out of time to escape before they die of thirst and starvation.

This was extremely hyped for me years ago and I finally got to it. It's a neat little thriller, but it didn't blow me away. Some have criticized the acting, but I didn't find it that bad. I thought Wint was pretty good. The larger commentary is a bit of a miss, and the screenplay is extremely hit or miss. A great example of lower budget filmmaking and using tricks to make things feel bigger than they are. I'm a bit of a sucker for one location films too. Pretty enjoyable.

Fun claustro-horror film has a nice low-budget aesthetic which makes everything play out in a simmering low-key which is nice - it's a shame that little effort is made to develop either the characters or the premise which means a weighty repetitiveness sets in during the sometimes unpleasant mid-section and takes the shine off the finale, which manages to be both predictable and almost shaggy dog-ish. Still an interesting and largely engrossing effort.

This works really well for a while, but unfortunately it quickly deteriorates. Nevertheless, it's insanely creative and thoroughly gripping. Despite it's constant anti-climactic narrative, which is most of the film, it's still extraordinarily executed. Could be better, but still a pretty decent film.

What a creative movie. Can a shoestring budget movie with acting that is like an overacted high school production and poorly aged 90's CGI still be good? Somehow yes, when your script is this smart, the characters nicely arced with good interactions, the kills are creative, and the world is filled with so much mystery that I'm dying to know more about. It's such an enjoyable movie even though an actor went full Simple Jack.

Well, for a documentary about boundless human overacting it's pretty creative. I guess that's all you can afford on such a small budget. But the cop dude was taking it waaaaayyy too far. Like, he took it beyond hilariously dumb, where it wasn't even funny anymore, just painfully silly.

I remember renting this at uni and absolutely hating it, but 20 years on I decided to give it a proper go, and it's actually a pretty decent film. An original concept that builds on you as the story progresses, competent performances, and characters and script that (overtly) reflect the different facets of modern society. The daftness does increase toward the climax and knocks half a star off the rating as a result, but this is much better watched alone than in a room of drunken teenagers.

Cube is without a doubt hampered by its minimal budget. Not to mention a script with one too many cliches. That being said, the movie is thrilling, small, scary at times, well acted and unique. At least it was until Saw was released. For a low budget horror film, this movie shines as a brilliant indie experience.

For some reason this film has garnered praise for a perceived originality, but there's nothing too imaginative about a maze filled with gruesome death traps. Any eight-year-old could conceive that premise, draw the same banal conclusions about group mentality or social masquerade, and probably direct actors to better performances than the tacky stuff on display here.

A great concept, but it's been done to death by now in many incarnations. I still eat single setting thrillers like Cube up though, enough for me to forgive a frequently hammy script. The talented ensemble cast do their best to give the script whatever it demands, but even they can't give this character-driven thriller the empathy it needs. Wonderful sets and score, Cube is a good 90 minutes for those who know it's their thing. Also, it isn't sci-fi. At all.

A great existential concept but poor direction and a haphazardly paced script don't do the ideas justice. The allusions are a bit first-year film student, but its stylish enough, and knows when to leave the fear to the imagination and when to lash out with some gruesome imagery in a good balance.

I didn't expect much from this movie, maybe that's why I liked it. From a very simple concept, they made a thrilling story with interesting characters. The writing is extremely poor and you have to suspend your disbelief really hard to get into it properly, but, once you do, it's a pretty good movie.
