Jackie Chan is a talented stuntman who should not be doing CGI stunts, Jennifer Love Hewitt is a teen movie actress who should not be awkwardly lingering in an action film, and I am a mortal human being who should not be spending my finite time watching this shit.

The Tuxedo is a ridiculously silly movie that takes itself far too seriously, tries to explain its preposterous plot far too frequently, and doesn't make very good use of its greatest asset, Jackie Chan. It's no fun to watch, makes very little sense, and doesn't give us a very good balance between action and dialogue, with the emphasis being put on the latter, which is the wrong choice. I get the film's opening scene now. It was an attempt to overwhelm you. It succeeded.

Very slow start, and pretty rediculous throughout with some lame CGI tricks to boot. Hewitt pulled it out for me though with comedic smart-ass sass (which I absolutely love). At one point her friendly female "pick-up" advice for Chan involves him becoming better aquanted with penicillin. Chan does his slapstick and awkward comedic moments passibly. Over all this movie is pretty much crap, I just happen to love Hewitt's character.

I gave this a five at first, but on reflection, I think I was just being nice. I turned the language to french about halfway through in an attempt to derive the slightest amusement from this turd. Even the usually entertaining bloopers were just Jennifer Love Hewitt blowing her lines and laughing again and again and again and again. God help that AD. So anyway, screw this movie. Zero.

Classic Jackie Chan, and kind of overlooked as a whole, The Tuxedo is a fresh and original jab at espionage films while also containing a unique spy gadget known as the "tuxedo" that can do anything you want. The only problem is, and this is kind of a substantial problem - it devalues Jackie Chan by ultimately claiming he's a nothing character, that the only thing that makes him special is the suit, and that's kind of annoying because we ALL know how talented the man is.

Why can't American directors let Jackie Chan be Jackie Chan without some bullshit like a magic tuxedo? You hired Jackie Chan. Let him Jackie Chan. Can you imagine if every time Arnold Schwarzenegger was in a film, the filmmakers felt like they needed to explain why he is muscular so they give him a suit that helps him lift things? The film would be shit just like The Tuxedo.

Anything with Jackie Chan will get some bonus points. There were a few good action moments in this movie but that is it for the good points. The whole movie is a set-up for the moment that Chan reveals that his name is Jimmy Tong...you know Jimmy could be changed to James and Tong sounds a bit like Bond when a Chinese person says it really quickly. The chemistry between Chan and Hewitt was terrible. Even the outtakes, which are usually the best thing in a Chan movie, showed how bad it was.

Quite possibly Chan's STOP OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT; silly and nonsensical plotting wastes Isaacs (a genuine Isaacs/Chan buddy movie is a tantalising prospect) and strands Chan in a story that disregards his physical skills (though some awkwardly edited stunt scenes suggest the wheels might be falling off) and posits an insane scheme by its villains which would be even outré in a Bond film. The less said about the smutty (and sleazy) misogynistic jokes the better. Chan is still fun to watch.
